Meh... I have nothing against story changes when adapting a comic/book to tv/film. Its impossible to have it completely the same. If you tried to keep the story completely true to the comic it wouldnt really work.

Me neither... WHEN IT WORKS!!! lol... The surfer, in fact, was originally designed by King Kirby to have been created by Galactus with no affiliation to any living creatures. That is why in their first appearance, the surfer does not understand why he is touched by the feelings of humans. Still, I do like the Stan Lee version of Zenn-La. I just did not like the way they portrayed it in this series. The surfer is not a messiah or a holy man.

I do like the idea of the surfer having some lost humanity that he gradually reclaims (namely his memories) and I think it makes it easier for the audience to relate to him. Where if they had stayed with the idea of him being completely artificial then it would be really hard to understand his motivations.

I do agree that the holy man aspects are a little dumb. But I dont find them too overbearing in this series. I would have preferred if Norin-Rad been just an average guy from Zenn-La who just so happened to have the courage to sacrifice himself for his planet.

I love that too. But I wish he could have just been more or less a normal man from a highly advanced planet as Lee had devised later in his own series. Still, I would love even more to see how Kirby would have developed the idea on his own(just as he created it on his own), albeit with some scripting help from Stan.

I find a lot of the things I love about silver surfer are also present in the character of Dr. Manhattan in Watchmen. He is a character whos power sets him apart from the rest of humanity and who's unique perspective on the world drives him to contemplate meaninglessness.

FYI, Dr. Manhattan is actually a clone of Captain Atom, though, obviously they took it to another level. The Watch men was originally meant to star characters from Charlton comics that DC had just bought but they decided to change them slightly so they could use Captain Atom and The Question aka Rohrschach, in the regular DC universe. I definitely see the surfer in Dr. Manhattan tho. I can't wait for that movie!

I never knew that. I never read Captain Atom. Im glad that Watchmen went with original characters who paralleled existing characters. To me Manhattan sort of represented what a character like superman (or some other godlike figure) would mean to the world if he actually existed in the real world. Rohrschach and Night Owl seemed like they were both batman only broken in two.

I have over 50 Silver Surfer comics, the Infinity Gauntlet graphic novel, the Galactus Orgins comic from the 80's, some Infinity War crossovers, the Silver Surfer Communion graphic novel and the F4- Rise of the Silver Surfer movie "Power Cosmic" edition as well, and he's been my absolute FAV. Comic book character, so I'm a pretty big fan, but I NEVER KNEW THAT DRAX THE DESTROYER WAS AN ANDROID/CYBORG!!!!
