Sounds like it was a fun event all around. I met mr Oldman many years ago when he was first touring with the Greenwich young peoples theatre and i was fascinated by him. There were not that many english people in Southern Ireland at the time and his accent was riveting.
Ladies & Gentleman : The scene at 5:40, when Mina is remembering her " Kingdom ", from her past life. Now....this may sound silly, but this is how I felt the Star Wars Prequals would look like going all the way back to 1983 ( I am 36). Can you Imagine if those 3 Films had this Intensity with Padme & Anakin !
This was my favourite movie for a long time and then V for Vendetta came out and I totally adored V. Winona ryder cannot exactly talk about Gary Oldmans behaviour, the most she is known for these days is shoplifting.
What I find sad and disturbing is how an actress like Ryder, after this movie, actually had quite negative things to say about her experience acting with Oldman. She called him some very inappropriate and bad things (I would deem them offensive), and how she would never want to act in a movie with him again. She should thank her stars she had the chance to breathe the same air as someone of Oldman's calibre.
@Merrida100 Bit hypocritical of her to bitch about him when she dated him. There is a scene in the film when he reveals his true self to her in the bedroom. Coppolla felt she was not giving a dramatic enough reaction and so he got everyone to yell abusive remarks at her. Oldman did not object to this so maybe this led to sour grapes.
@dublinbarterclub Actually that's partially right. Remember the scene where he's the wolf/beast and he was having sex with Lucy in the garden on the stone bench? SHE as it turns out, acted a little frigid (for the purpose of the scene) and in that scene, Gary whispered obscenities to her, called her some interesting names and made explicit sexual comments to her. This part I KNOW to be true, how he elicited emotion from Lucy. But to be honest, I wasn't aware of him doing it with Mina.
@Merrida100 It was Coppola who was doing the yelling and some of other offscreen people. It would not surprise me if he was whispering obscenities in Lucys ear. She was an English actress called Sadie frost and she was probably finding it very funny. Sadie was at the time married to an unknown Jude Law and she spent her last 2,000 pounds flying out for the audition and she impressed Coppola when she told him this and he gave her the part.
@dublinbarterclub I know who Sadie Frost is because I know some of her acquaintances. So I'm rather well aware of her. I'm also aware of her acting career. She specifically stated in this role she wanted to go against type and be fiesty and assertive, not demure. All well and good. I don't know about any other scenes, but that one on the bench I am aware of what types of things he said to her up close (I didn't hear them, I can't verify the wording). Both Frost & Oldman made this clear.
I LOVE IT when he whispers to her his "slogan" @ 1:04....its so romantic!!!! And then you can see her expression change slightly when she slowly begins to realize WHO she is dealing with! LOVE It!!!
the funny thing is...his performance as the prince of darkness wasn't even Oscar nominated. this, along with Oscar's omission of Jack Lemmon's performance in Glengarry Glen Ross remain just a couple of what's wrong with the Oscars.

And the effect of his eyes at 1:34 looks outdated. Afcourse it was 1992, i wasn't even born back than. I also think Coppola turnted the sex button on. There wasn't raping invoult in the novel, and Lucy wasn't that...sexually obsessed.

Astounding. There are no limits to science, or to this film. I loved it all those years ago when i first seen it and the theme was used for mine and my wifes wedding. I was dressed as Gary Oldmans dracula (i hope my other half wasn't dissapointed, when i was out of costume on our wedding night lol). We married in a large Goth stately home. This music was playing....You may now bite the bride. Good memories.
God Gary just oozed with sensuality in this movie....he carried that passionate/erotic/Romantic/tortured intensity throughout this movie...No matter what he did he still had me hook line and sinker....I rooted for him over the others...I love how Coppola went where Stoker hinted at, but ultimately couldn't go...How we want to unleash our repressive side and embrace that freedom...This movie is SEX personified....It's dripping in this forbidden dangerous Heat that is so arousing <33
