  • @folladordeprostis " THE " biggest track of all times ..DAVID is so cute he ate my brain..AWESOME

  • great tune..but whats the song about!!!!! it sounds a bit like, something from the film paint your wagon!!! wondering star!.....

  • Ha ha ha ha ha....goes even better dancing the robot....try it... :-)

  • Gones rather well with a nice cool beer & a nice fat doobie.......Ahhhhhh blisssssssssssssss.

  • most suggestive song... EVER

  • Great

  • This song was not written by David Bowie. David Bowie would never have written such a song. Move along, citizens.

  • I totally have my own interpretation of this song

  • Comment removed

  • Song sounds to me that wanna be pop stars of the time figured out they would be promoted by corporations if they wore drag & acted gay, that wearing velvet, maybe exploiting gays, influencing the confused in particular direction would come with a big pay off. Velvet GOLDMINE. The name says it all, but am I the only one that see that? Don't know. I know pop stars become like gawds to us so I will prolly get slammed for not keeping that observation to myself.

  • I read years ago that David Bowie wrote this song with Marc Bolan in mind. The lyrics are definately more Bolan than Bowie. At .16 and .33 the vocal sounds very much like Marc Bolan. Check 'em out!

  • 2:22

  • Would somebody please explain what kimba kano means? I'm stumped. I don't get how that fits in these contexts.

  • I only have Space Oddity, The Man Who Sold the World, Hunky Dory, and Low on my iPod. Hence my impression of him was that he did some happy songs, some sad songs, some apocalyptic songs, some post apocalyptic songs..... But then I found this. This doesn't fit my image of him at all, not that I'm complaining. Oh my god. This is one sexy ass song.

  • @amberdragon8

This is from the Ziggy Stardust sessions, and it reflects it. Very glam.

I'd also highly suggest his album "Station to Station".

  • @degree7 I love that album.

  • SEX

  • just to make sure what he means with velvet goldmine is Pu*sy right? Or am I just perverted ^^

  • @ZaeroZ definitely genitalia, yes. god knows what specifically.

  • @ZaeroZ I think it is that by dressing in drag type clothes (velvet) while singing pop will get them promoted by industry ( i think was trying to create as much gender confusion as possible) & therefore, it was a goldmine, they got rich by exploiting the gay community and confusing straight teenagers with decidedly unmasculine images. It worked. I see more phucked up confused youth when it comes to their sexuality, men who hate themselves for being men, hate their own chest hair fer crissakes!

  • no one can even touch him when it comes to sexiness!!

  • This song really reminds me of opiates!!...Not a great time to be reminded of either!...Regardless..Kick Ass song!!..

  • I also have this track on a picture disc 45rpm that is backed with Round and Round a chuck berry cover That never made the Pin-ups album.... I was only trying to help. Nice posting. I enjoy it.

  • What? Do I really have to take a picture of the lyrics off these liner notes ??? It clearly reads Kimba -Kano. And Stord me like the rain. I would never rely on my hearing??? Excuse me while I kiss this guy-Hendrix. There's a bathroom on the right- fogerty. You hear what you want to hear. I'm just reading off of this vinyl that I bought from Scheherazade Records in the early '80's a import record company that was catalogue only.... I was only trying to help. Nice posting anyway. Oh. I als

  • David Bowie= Jizz in the ears.

  • am i the only one who finds this song a wee-bit creepy??

  • I can't believe this isn't on the radio! Great track from Bowie yet again. ♥♥

  • Making the most of multitracking to great effect. Sounds like all the different personas trying to be heard. Apparently there was no space for it on the Ziggy album so it got stuck on the b-side of Space Oddity when it was re released.

  • The best song of bowie after rebel rebel and sufragette city

  • Sea wash my face please Mr. David Bowie

  • Im in love

  • excellent. :) the sinch is also fantastic. ;)

  • Continued. It's "Stoad" me like the rain. Which means "delayed". I had to run to the sleeve of my record to find that. Also, he was on the cover of Rolling Stone wearing glasses and Velvet Goldmine was the caption .... Fantastic stuff. TANX. Bolan ref. Tee-hee...

  • Correction. I'll be your Kimba-Kano. Not king valcano... And, not "stroke" me like the rain... Its

  • @Dontevenknowher It's king volcano i'm afraid. I'm not entirely sure on the stroke part though.

  • I must admit, fuckin sick lyrics!

  • What would i do without David Bowie in my life since 1969.

  • great 'b' side...

  • The chorus is not an original tune. It is polyushka pole, a Soviet song that is/was a fave of the Red Army chorus. The humming of the melody in this song towards the end by an all male backing group at the end of the song is suggestive of such an all-male choir, and, lends evidence to the homoerotic masculinity of the song. Can I get my media studies degree now?

  • @metalbucket2 I'll give you an honorary one for that introspective.

  • Genius.............end off

  • I LOVE this song!

Pffft so many of his songs are about sex ;)

  • I'll let you be my King Volcano anytime David!!!

  • im so glad my mum and dad introduced to music like this, david bowie is amazing and so much better than the crap we hear these days :)

  • David Bowie- Causing orgasms since 1969

  • @hachirusmileing Earlier than that, think hes got work dating back to the mid 60s.

  • @PKing411

probably, that's at least when he became big. I know he had a album in '65 , but he became famous in '79 with Space Oddity.

  • @hachirusmileing was oddity not '69? Cause he had memorable albums (E.g. Hunky Dory, Aladdin Sane and Diamond dogs) in the early-mid 70's

  • @PKing411

    Oops, my bad, typo haha.

He was veeeeeery popular by '79 that's for sure.

  • @hachirusmileing Space Oddity was in '69, by '79 he made so many albums, you cant imagine ;)

but it is true, he made a few albums before Space Oddity, and he didnt reach real stardom untill Hunky Dory and Ziggy Stardust, '72. After that, glory never stopped being with him :)

  • BOWIEEEEEEEEEEEEEE !!!

  • I thought it was breath and not breast lol.

God I never realised how sexy this song is ;)

  • Looooooooooooooooooove Bowie!!!!

  • right on buddy thank you

  • "more cool ass music"..haha...damn good posting!

  • my god cynthia dedicated to the novoselsky family r.i.p....

  • I thought it was dedicated to Angela's vagina?

  • BART ROCKS! ^^,

  • more humms and whistles LOLL!

  • Ya know, when I've listend to this song in the past Ive always thought that he was singing "Like the print sayes, you must stay " ,.. but now I finde that it's actually " panther princes ... " .. Hmmmm ?

  • what makes you think he's getting blown by a guy

  • @mcwaddle Heal ya head with my own? thatsounds weird

  • This is way more than making out, he is giving him a blowjob!

  • it's about drag queen

  • I think he's singing about himself. Just a thought.

  • Velvet Goldmine you stroke me like the rain. Snake it, take it, panther princess you must stay

  • Ah, love it! :D

  • I'll be you king volcano. Shoot you down bang, bang,

    Dirty boy Mr Bowie.

  • wtf? Bowie wrote this song about kissing a man.

  • @StellaSimon5 Um more than kissing a man XD

  • Just wiki Velvet Goldmine (song).

That's the songs meaning...who the hell decided it was about dog cock or hand-jobs :|

  • 'Shoot me bang bang' reminds me of the Man Who Fell To Earth with David Bowie. If you've seen it you'll know which scene I mean =P

  • Is this really about dogs? I don't think it is but what do i know... awesome song.

  • Brilliant, I love it!

  • this should have been on the ziggy album..and not just as a bonus track only found on the rykodisk version...

  • This is my favourite song about lusting after a drag queen ever.

Not that I know that many.

    Bowie. <4

  • very funny!!I like it...,coco (-:

  • lol most sexual song ever

  • @rockolutheran I would say 'Sweet Head' is the most sexual song. No question what that song is about! XD

  • Let my sea wash your face, I'm falling, I can't stand

    Oooh! Put your mink on

    My velvet goldmine

What a hell................Well, This song will play on my wedding

  • I love the album "Ziggy Stardust" but what would've made it perfect was if they dropped "It Ain't Easy" and had "Velvet Goldmine" instead. Sticking "John, I'm Only Dancing" on their couldn't have hurt either...

  • @aladdinsane9 yes totally agree...this should have been on the album!.a classic

  • Haha, i remember my mom listening to this when i was little and all that registered with me was "panther princess" and I'm just now getting the sexual references!

  • Lol Bowie is perverted =D <3

  • Great tune. Love the "Bye Bye" at 3:06!

  • i may be wrong but i believe the lyrics were perceived as too rude at the time-velvet goldmine was a reference to the vagina? with this in mind i think the lyrics make a little more sense!!

  • Its about bowies relationship with MEN.... Has nothing to do with women its about his interest in men sexually and the pressure he took as well.

  • Love this song!

  • Good work! I've never been able to work out half of these lyrics. I thought he said, "I'll ride for you again and again". it's clearly about some kind of material engineering.

  • the kimba kano part sounds right but i swear he says panther princess

  • I could've sworn it was panther princess... O.o

  • cool, thanks

  • lol wow, never heard that version of the song, awesome =p

  • This sounds like Ziggy. When did he do this?

  • its on ziggy

  • ok...this is the chorus that's printed on the inner sleeve...not MY words!!! "Velvet goldmine, you stord me like the rain, snake it take it like the princess, you must stay...velvet goldmine, make it on your chain, I'll be your kimba kano right for you again......" and the second verse doesn't seem to make any sense at all !

  • Well...I've been doing my homework!! 'Rare' was released by RCA without Bowies permission...in fact, he parted company with them around that time. So maybe someone from RCA just made up the lyrics to this to put on the inner sleeve !! haha...sounds like it anyway. ..."You got cray legs, you got amazing head, you got rings on your fingers and your bells my friend...You got slip of the tongue" hmmmm...I'm not sure

  • Yes, the lyrics on the sleeve of the Rare LP are completely wrong. You're right about someone from the RCA making them up.

  • this is my favourite bowie song <3

  • Comment removed

  • Has anyone got a copy of the Rare LP ? It was released about '82 and contained B-sides and alternative versions of some of Bowies songs...including this song. It also had the lyrics printed on the inner sleeve....and the words to this song are totally different from these lyrics here. Who's right?

  • @Salfordbluemoon totally different? Now that's really strange...

  • Welcome=0))

  • somebody knows the name of firts 2 seconds??

  • The song in the first 2 seconds is "Changes" also by David Bowie.

  • thanks :)

  • I'm pretty sure its Changes....by David Bowie=0) If thats what you meant.

  • thanks! :)

  • piano playing for 2 sec. hauahuahuahauua lol

  • bowie = Genius

  • @MoonNymph775 couldn't really say it better myself.

  • making this video with the lyrics was genius because it moves so quickly

    thanks

i wouldnt have understood it all otherwise

  • Piano playing for about two secs

THIS IS EXCELLENT. I'V NEVER HEARD IT BEFORE. Oh David, you pretty thing.

  • good vid, next time give it to deezer

  • cool song, never heard it before

  • The chorus at the end sounds like a soviet hymn...

  • what Bowie album is this from?

  • It's from a b-side

  • this is the b-side of 1975 Space Oddity UK single, but you can find it from 1990 version of Ziggy Stardust album, as a bonus track.

  • i don't care if he's singing about sucking dogs cocks, have you seen those lyrics? they're unbelievable, they're fucking pure poetry, what a legend

  • singing about blowing a dog is great lyrical content?

  • @petesemaj lol wtf are you talking about. This song is about a dude sucking off another dude.

  • @Nyax727 , i am fully aware of what it is about, though I think you've misunderstood me , there were a lot of people saying they didn't like song for the very reason that it was about a guy sucking off another guy, i was making the point that even if it were about something as crazy sucking off a dog for example, it's still pure poetry

  • @petesemaj Yep I took the comment out of context. My bad. Bowie rules :)

  • @Nyax727 he does indeed, and we agree on that so that's the important bit! take it easy

  • @petesemaj how sutile.

  • @MrAlejandroAristotel , i am guessing you mean "Subtle" though if your spelling is that bad that people have to guess what you mean perhaps you should refrain from posting comments.

  • The dude is singing about penis. Bless him. :)

  • Comment removed

  • Anyone got an acapella of this?

  • i fucking love this song. i'll never get tired of listening to it

  • Haha great video;-)

I remember dancing around my room to this song when I was a young teen, not knowing what the song was about.

    Bowie's amazing!!

  • yeah right ^_^

  • Velvet Tom Reeder

  • ^_^

  • "cool ass music".. now this cracked me up :) great vid!

  • nice and funny...cool!

  • *piano playing for about 2 secs.*

  • Cool song. One of his most original sounding, but I always thought it was "like the print sayes" but I now see that it's "panther princes" unstead.

  • I have this song on my Ziggy Stardust demo tape. Its different to this but just as awesome.

  • This song was first released in 1975 as a b-side for Space oddity... But was recorded around the Hunky Dory era....

  • Only David Bowie could write a song about handjobs and make it awesome.

  • You fuckin' rock!

  • uh....it's "I'll be your Kimbo Kano right for you again and again..." Kimbo Kano is a Hindu phrase, look it up people.....

  • All right, I know what this song is about overall, but could someone "translate" a few of the lyrics...what are some of them referring to?

  • It's entirely possible David himself doesn't know. He did a loooooooooot of drugs when writing music, although I don't know when this song in particular was made. It could honestly just be gibberish.

  • He didn't do drugs when writing this song or any songs from 1970 to 1973... maybe a bit of hash.

  • @Redsrevenge I guess it's about whatever one wants it to be about. Ya know,.. subjective ? Paintings are like that too sometimes,.. so are some films. And the lyrics do kind'a inspire ones imagination ( if they only possess one ).

  • hehe love this

  • Immensa ammirazione per questa meraviglia di genio della natura !!!!

  • When the humming guy starts laughing a little, it reminds me of the thing where that newsreader cracked up.

  • The guy humming and laughing sounds like David himself...that's his laugh.

  • lovin this song

  • This song is so darkly beauty. Thank GOD it didn't on the soundtrack of that same titled movie.

  • Why do something such as this with such an amazing Bowie song? Honestly,I'm curious, I am not trying to flame your video...

  • The verse is almost exact "We will rock u".

  • huh?

  • Why the hell didnt he release this at once. Such a unik song. Im nearly falling of the cheer. Such a creativity. Bowie forever.

  • is this song in an album? or it was just a single?

  • i think it was an outtake from the hunky dory sessions

  • yes i know that, but i hate the fact that it is not on that great album

  • it's on an album :D

  • naaaa, it's only on a single, or in what album you say it appears?

  • it's true that it came from the hunky dory sessions in 1971 but was first released as a b-side in 1975, and it is found on Ziggy Stardust reissues of Rykodisc and in the limited Emi 30th anniversary edition, and in the best of 1969-1974 or the platinum collection, cd 1. :)

  • conclusion: It's fine on my best of bowie

  • NEWBIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

  • NEWBIEEEEEEE!
