My sister has a Everio very similar to this (2007 20GB single CCD model). Its performance is similar. Great with plenty of light, but quality drops off quickly indoors. Its low light performance is pretty bad, our 1998 Hi-8 HandyCam does better. Pretty much in line with what everyone else with an Everio SD camera reports.
On my Sony SR11 the HDD is turned off when the memory stick is used. Just found out about that - after I had taken the little HDD out! I actually made a video about that wich I'm going to upload soon.
This Japanese version performs a lot like my European version. The digital image stabilizer is not the greatest but it seems to be a bit better than the optical image stabilizer of my JVC GZ-HD7.
I really like these strong colours. The little problem with the white parts of the picture being to bright can be fixed by manually adjusting the exposure. I have that set to -1 on my camcorder, and I've done the same on the HD7.
Thanks. Nice house.

If I were to get such a camcorder, I would prefer an SSD type. Is it possible to install an SSD in something like an Everio?
Since you've mentioned about how the colors come out, it made me think of names like Technicolor and DeLuxe.

A detail that I noticed is that it gives you a warning message when it's not able to focus correctly. (in low light etc)
Your Sony mic picks up some low frequency hum from the HDD, same happens on my Sony SR11, I really don't like that.

@DrCassette I haven't tried it yet, but maybe if you set it to record to an SD card, then the hard drive shuts off, which would avoid the hum.

Typical camera with typical issues. Not bad though. Camcorderinfo is right about the over-saturation. The white is blinding.
