I love linux. Now if only the ATI card on my mom's laptop would work out of the box properly for 3-d gameing. Its not like I can't fix it I'm just lazy. :)
Linux is the best OS out there but I just can't stick with it completely. Everything is compatible with Windows so that's why I stick with it. Same goes for OSX, nothing is compatible with it.
@GenoSkill Well since most applications are Windows and Windows takes up the majority of compatible software, it's safe to say that "everything" is a pretty good estimate even though it's exaggerated. Besides, I don't know why you are taking it so seriously. :/
My thoughts on Windows is that is just a bloated OS. And Windows 7, is nothing more that an updated Windows XP, sugar coated with Vista and XP appearance layout. Anybody that says Vista is better than Windows XP is a liar. Windows XP way surpases Vista. Windows does not hire the best and talented, it hires copy caters. Too many things from apple and Linux have been copied into Windows. Stealing the garbage bin was not enough for Windows.
Linux will never be as good as Windows or even (dare I say it) a Mac. Not as long as it is free. By trying to make it 'simple' they made it worse. No specific drivers make certain parts preform worse, therefore making it incompatible with many applications. People say that Windows is to hard and complicated, even though 80% of the world is running windows. To install on windows you don't need to know a crap load of commands, it's all automatic. Virus's are no big deal with anti-virus.
@xDeviousProductionsx that is just it, with Linux viruses are a rare case. We just don't experience it as much. You can throw a Windows virus at Linux and nothing happens to it, it just carries it around but it does not impact it in anyway. Linux on the other hand had saved window users countless times from viruses. Can you say "Clam".
Linux. Simple? I disagree. It's way too complicated. It could do with a great deal of simplification. I like it because I can tweak it to do what I want.

DISCLAIMER: I USE LINUX. I'M WRITING THIS MESSAGE FROM UBUNTU. LINUX IS GREAT.
Moving on, this video was stupid. Linux is improving but it's still not user friendly enough for most people, and anyway, if that kid were blind (cause he had ATI eyes whose drivers are still in beta) it would demonstrate the true nature of linux (atm, anyway) :P
Name one distro that's comparable to Windows on usability without efforts to refine it, and the answer is you can't. Windows is still the best for any level of users and fits more situation to do more.
I like Linux and hope it gets better. I think this is what the video is trying to say too.
"Any level of users and fits more situation to do more" ?? Try to run scientific code, or to do serious data processing in your windows box while you continue your normal use (web browsing, word processing, game playing etc)...
It may be that you are not able to read and chew gum at the same time... that happens when you use M$ windows for a long time: you forget everything about multitasking. I didn't say "games are better on linux" I said:"multitasking (for instance, processing data and playing at the same time) is not even possible in windows".
Wait, you are able o play a video game while you work in your windows box then? My Oblivion is going just as nicely wh€en with next to daemon and azuerus, and I dont need more than one game at a time. im effective, but there is limits.
Linux Mint (based on ubuntu, great for first timers)
SimplyMepis (simple to use, haven't tried installing applications)
All are more usable than Windows from a fresh install. All are more configurable than Windows, allowing for more user refinement. All take up less resources and allow for more use of your hardware, giving a better user experience over all.
I am engulfed by its lust for power and controll, I have it because I fear for my compitability with games, and it have made me so uncertain that I do not dare to try to ally myself with Linux, the Retaliation could be horrible(bugs, crashes and complete data loss)
I just ditched it.. It died and i ceased the moment and got rid of it once and for all. I miss nothing from it.. Except playing Vampire the masqurade but its woth it.
Hey, excuse me, but as a British gentleman, I think that that's no way to talk to a total stranger. If you honestly think you'll get anywhere with that attitude then let me tell you how far you'll go: not very far at all! You ought to become a little more polite on a public forum.
They should teach computer code as a requrement at schools so more people can use linux effectively. Nice commercial. Thought it doesn't say much about the OS.
It says more to those who know Linux than it says to those who don't. For instance, the fact Linux learned from everyone goes towards community efforts to refining the kernel. When they mentioned "what he knows, we all know" points towards Open Source and why it's so invaluable.
Just wish there was a better way to say it, something to show that to the laymen out there.
I just installed Ubuntu and I can honestly say that Linux basically turns your PC into a true Personal Computer. The customization is simply amazing, and everyday-there's something new to update or install. Open source is defintely the future. Regular people just like you and me can log onto Linux and make a new application. We can make add-ons for Firefox. JUMP IN!
Wow, I'm an Apple fanboy, and as such should hold a grudge against IBM and Linux (though find common ground in areas), but that's one of the best damn commercials I think I've ever seen. Captures the very essence of open-source.
Is it a good idea to buy a linux? or what about Macintosh.... like i walk into Bestbuy and i see these program's linspere and Linux, and there only like 25 dollars.... and im thinking is it a good idea to install that software on my windows 95 pc that i barely use.... well becus its a windows fuckin 95. can someone help me decide?
oh it is? i thought u had to pay for the software is it easy to install? because im only 14 years old and i want to know if the software is ok to install on a computer.
It's very simple, if you're familiar with computers. There are many distributions (versions) of Linux, and I just installed Ubuntu. And by the way, I'm 11 years old.
Follow the link I posted in a reply earlier. No need to buy Linux when you can request a free CD from Canonical or simply burn it to disk yourself. Either way, it's completely free and completely legal.

I didn't say "games are better on linux" I said:"multitasking (for instance, processing data and playing at the same time) is not even possible in windows".
baphomet21 4 years ago
Wait, you are able o play a video game while you work in your windows box then? My Oblivion is going just as nicely wh€en with next to daemon and azuerus, and I dont need more than one game at a time. im effective, but there is limits.

Open source is the best.

Ubuntu (been using it for a year)
PCLinuxOS (tried it out, was impressed)
Linux Mint (based on ubuntu, great for first timers)
SimplyMepis (simple to use, haven't tried installing applications)
All are more usable than Windows from a fresh install. All are more configurable than Windows, allowing for more user refinement. All take up less resources and allow for more use of your hardware, giving a better user experience over all.

Who would ever cry on a windows commercial...
TheMorMor 4 years ago
It would only awaken anger, hate and despair. Just as windows itself.

Windows is a hard, cold and desolate place...... I gave it upp completly a year ago... but occasionally it still comes upp and taunts me.

Manners don't cost anything.

One day... there will be a perfect world... a perfect world without Open Source.

They should teach computer code as a requrement at schools so more people can use linux effectively. Nice commercial. Thought it doesn't say much about the OS.
xaviervaltiel 5 years ago

DevilsUpload 5 years ago
It's very simple, if you're familiar with computers. There are many distributions (versions) of Linux, and I just installed Ubuntu. And by the way, I'm 11 years old.
unknown04guy 5 years ago
Yay for children using Linux!
theproc64 4 years ago
(im 14 too) its an operating system, you have to remove your current OS and replace it with
the version of Linix of your choice via boot-disk or something
bkisme 4 years ago
LOL, yeah that's wrong. Try again.
NullClothing 4 years ago
they make Linux on LiveCD's now that can run out of your RAM .. and just dual boot it with windows or OS X via the graphic installer
check out Ubuntu or Fedora, Linux is as uncomplicated to Install as ever. :D
brian98374 4 years ago
With Ubuntu, just pop in the CD, boot up from it, click install, follow the prompts.
With some others, might need to use GParted first to partition your hard drive, then choose which partition to install on. Again, not that difficult
tmsbrdrs2 1 year ago
they're operating systems, not software. but yeah go for it, you've got nothing to loose.
jackson088 5 years ago
Never buy Linux unless you use dial up. Just download it and burn it to a cd.
theproc64 4 years ago
Follow the link I posted in a reply earlier. No need to buy Linux when you can request a free CD from Canonical or simply burn it to disk yourself. Either way, it's completely free and completely legal.
