I've always had issues with feedback on the effects loop of my Crate BV120 Blue Voodoo, I've got it dialed in to where I get decent distortion and saturation and am just short of starting to get feedback at performance volume through a half stack but I'm not quite happy with my sound, would adding this in add enough to the signal to start getting feedback or would it be good to go with just a little bit of tweaking?
I have the BBE SONIC STOP, the original one and it's a life saver. I've used it in my JCM DSL 2000 AND My Marshall MA 100 Which needs more bottom end.
I love this pedal, it's like getting dropped kicked in the face when doing Fear Factory style riffs
This is bullshit. I could just turn the volume knob on my guitar, since I always keep my amp's volume cranked, and control the level with the tone and volume knob on my my guitar.
this little box is a monster. I have a Randall RG200(2x12, 200 watt), and a Randall 1x12 50 watt, both solid state, i adore the sound of a tube amp, but don't want to bend over to get a tube amp, so "Harmonic Convergers", then i heard of the BBE SonicStomp, essentially a converger, just alot cheaper. This thing is awesome, made my Randalls sound incredible. I tried the Sonic Stomp on tube amps as well, just makes them sound better too. Best $100 bucks to make your tone sound killer
Which is the best way to use the Sonic Stomp, between the guitar and amp or in the effects loop? I like my delay best through the loop. I play through a tube amp, a Peavey Valveking and althought the tone is good, I think it could use some BBE magic. I've heard different opinions and thought I'd just go to the source and ask you guys at BBE.
I have the Peavey 6505+ 112 combo. I bought the BBE Green Screamer from Guitar Center for $45 brand new yesterday! I played it side by side with an Ibanez TS808 and just found that the Green Screamer sounded better. Tightens up my lead and gives it more bottom end. Totally recommend it! Saving up money so I can get the Sonic Stomp!
@evertrules24 Dude!!!This "BBE Sonic Stomp" Sonic Maximizer will make you fall in love with that 6505 all over again!!To really be able to appreciate this monster...i set my "Low Contour" on (#10) & "Process" on (#8) (#9) and this will be like your rig sound like it just got a fresh shower & shave..oh, and throwing in a little "Aqua Velva" to boot!!!No just kidding Mate!!Ha!!(P.S. make sure that you let it be your last effect pedal in your Daisy Chain between last pedal & amp!!!)TakeCare Smile!!
@evertrules24 I don't know if you've picked one up yet but if you did you have your answer. I have the same amp and this pedal is always on no matter what I'm playing, it's like taking the blanket off your speaker(s) and allowing them to breathe.
@clitoricam I never did pick one up, I actually sold my peavey and bought an engl fireball 100 and an orange 2x12 cab. The peavey was amazing the but engl is on a whole different level as far as tone. Maybe now ill consider getting one of these pedals but by itself it sounds amazing.
I have a peavey 3120, and iam looking at cleaning up my gain sound, and really bringing out the sound of the amp...might this just be what i am looking for? I have heard a boost pedal can help, but for some reason i came across this pedal and iam really interested
@Imat00l You got it. This has a buffer to accept an instrument-level signal, but it has one channel. The 382 has two channels, so if you've got a rack, you want the 382i. If all your effects are on the floor, you want the Sonic Stomp.
@monsters247 I'm not sure on the timing. I think at the time Billie Joe had already started with the Supa-Charger to power his board, but not sure which, if any, BBE pedals were on there yet. Anyway, if that's the tone you like, you'll hear and feel more of it with the Sonic Stomp. - Dave
I've been using a rackmount Sonic Maximizer for years. I've played everything from small stages to large arenas, played around the world and used it in conjunction with a few different bass amps that I was endorsing at the time. It is one piece of gear that I'll NEVER part with and always tell others about. I'm glad to see that the quality of the rack gear has been put into a pedal. Now I can pimp these out to each of my guitarists, since they would prefer it in pedal form.
This pedal makes your normal clean channel sound as good as your amp can get!!!And you need to set the "Contour" to FULL & "Process" to (#8) and just turn your Amp down abit to allow for proper Db Headroom but this will give most any Amp the right Punchiness,Thump & Growl where you need it!!!Really great for Jazz guitars that you've turned back your Tone considerably but you still want to get the Punch & Presence & Color out of your Guitar & Strings!!
@CaptAntiGravity Your taste is definitely different than @cordanscedo's. I think he'd have been happier if he dialed it back, but it all depends on the context people are using it in. That's why we've got controls, rather than a fixed amount of processing. I really like your point about the punchiness. Some people focus so much on the process control they don't realize how effective the Lo Contour is. I tend to dial up more of the LC and dial back the bass on my amp. Better punch. - Dave
Hey Brother Dave...i used to use those rack mount BBE Units but kind of a hassle to set up on top my amp heads!!!So i got your First BBE Sonic Stomp & AcoustiMax (Acoustic Pedal)..however i now only use the AcoustiMax just before connecting into INPUT Jacks of BOTH Amps as i am into Stereo Guitar Amp reflection!!However i would only use the SonicStomp IF you guy's would have put Stereo Inputs & Outputs on this Unit & it's always the last effect on your DaisyChain!!Your Technology is Patented!!!
@CaptAntiGravity Make it Hap'n Cap'n! Yeah, that's exactly why we did the SS. I used to have a rack setup, but then when I went to combos and stacks, the rack-mount units became cumbersome. I'll bet the stereo effect with your setup is killer. Stereo does so much more when the harmonics come forward with the BBE processing. Thanks for the feedback and we'll definitely consider it! - Dave
I sold mine after getting a good 10-Band EQ. To my ears the Sonic Maximizer brightens the tone and helps you cut through the mix, but it also sterilizes your tone. If you're playing a nice tube head an eq is a better option. Just my opinion.
@cordanscedo I'm gonna guess you might have been using settings that are too aggressive for your taste. Sometimes people think of it as an effect, but instead it should be thought of as a seasoning. Seasoning is great in the kitchen, but it should be used in moderation, not enough to overpower the dish. At least that's what I've heard. If you have another go with a Sonic Maximizer, keep it moderate, let the tone be defined by your gear, just use the Maximizer to bring out more of your tone.
If you're playing anything with distortion you need one of these! Started with a sonic stomp and after doing one show was totally sold. Through a decent front of house it makes you sound massive. Now running an 482i through the effects loop of a Mesa Roadster and it totally owns. Heavy, deep, and crystal clear. Our vocalist uses the 882i for his vocal rack with a TC Electronics voice doubler. Another killer combo.
@destructionism Thanks! Next thing you know you'll have a Sonic Maximizer on your home audio/video system or the VG-360 between you computer and powered speakers. If you're into console games, you can use the discreet audio outputs from a PS3, xBox or Wii, go through a Maximizer, then on to your TV. Games like Call of Duty and GT5 are just killer. - Dave
@MarineCorpsBrick It'll do the same with any other distortion / overdrive pedal. Some of the extreme distortion pedals have a tough time keeping the tone focused, so the Sonic Stomp let's you dime them and still keep notes in chords distinct. - Dave
@astro2069 Since part of the technology involves equalization, it does add a little gain. The other elements of the technology focus on signal restructuring which does not add gain. The goal is to allow transients and harmonics to come forward from the fundamentals so you can hear the detail already there in the signal. It's the tendency of transients and harmonics to get mashed together with the fundamentals that gives a muddy sound. This works to undo that.
@HackerGuitarist LOL it can be used for that. We could always do another demo with a junky guitar and buzzy little amp just to show how effectively a turd can polished. On the other hand, it seems the people actually buying Sonic Stomps have quality gear and want to get the most out of it.
@BBETV Totally made my Marhsall MGDFX combo sound decent. Used it through the loop set at about half...amazing difference! Now I use it with my 6505, not as drastic a difference but siill nice.
@asianaxeman Thanks! Yeah, the on/off switch is pretty much just for demos at the store and to show your friends your cool new toy. We don't know anyone who actually turns it off while playing. - Dave
Will this pedal clean up some " muddiness" I'm getting from using stomp boxes?
