  • Sounds awesome! But I have a feeling you would sound great on an Epiphone, so I'm no closer to a decision on pickups ;)

  • @kenbob4348 they would sound great in anything IMO especially a 335...thanks for watching

  • I have contacted Jon of Throbak and it's either the 101 Plus pups or the 101 limited's.

How do you like the 101 plus compared to these 101 limited's?

Can you disect each model for me to help me decide?

    MUCH APPRECIATED.

I want that same clean woody tone that was mine when I was 16 back in '67 that I had with my '59 LP standard. Though I sold it later to pay for impending child nursery, never lost that sound inside my soul. Bought a Heritage H-150.

    Fine playing btw, really nice.

  • @rmontognese I dont know about the 101+ set because I dont own or havent played a pair. I only know that these 101 limiteds are my favorite sounding new PAF. Either set will or should get you your clean woody tone that you seek. Thanks for watching.

  • I think skydog's pafs sound a tad smoother. Sort of 57 classic sounding. Yours sound the best of the throbak demos. In this vid the most. Skydog's throbaks sound a little harsh and strong. Still sound killer though.

  • Do those pups have the short A5 magnets?? thanks

  • Those pups sound great? They have great ouput for reading in at 7.6 and 7.9. I tried a pair of seymour duncan pearly gates which have about the same resistance. The neck sounded weak and brittle. Were you using any overdrive?? Thanks.

  • Did you also upgrade the wiring in your R8 with an RS kit (or similar)?

  • @jcshirke no this is stock wiring, wired to 50's style with NOS BB caps.

  • thanks for the response lespaul10. Obviously those pups sound the great in a paul. Do you know anyone who dropped them in a SG?? Like you, I dig the hell out of vintage tone, guitars and parts. Do you have a tonepro bridge on your paul??

  • @4937645 no I havent and no I dont. Thanks for the interest.

  • what type of les paul is that??

  • @4937645 Gibson historic 58 reissue, the pups measure out at 7.6 and 7.9. Thanks for the interest.

  • awesome blues awesome tone. Is that a LP standard?? What is output of those pups??

  • that's the holy grail man, awesome blues playin man. they have that sweet vintage edge to 'em. I have an old set of 57 classics in my sg. they sound great, but you know you pickups man, that is as vintage as it gets. May I ask how much they cost??

  • That sounds just beautiful. I wonder how they compare to other boutique pickups like WCR, WB, Lollar etc...

  • There are alot of great sounding pups out there and IMO its all subjective...they all sound great in there own way. Thanks for the comment.

  • Hi Phil, have you heard of Jim Rolphs PAF's. TQR magazine says that he does it better than anyone else!

  • Yeah Ive heard of them but have never tried a set...for me...the Tbaks are IT!!

  • When does this amp start to break up? What is the volume on in the video? Thanks

  • This being a BF fender super, it starts to break up at about 3-4. Thats about where my volume was set at the time of this recording. Thanks for watching!!

  • Awesome stuff, and I agree, these are the best humbuckers I've ever heard... I got them in a Les Paul, and I've found they give me more control over the tone just by picking harder or softer. Beautiful pickups, great character.

  • Have mercy Phil, that is sweet! Big drops of honey, sounds like to me....play on! Found you over commenting on a Noitpure/Trina video.

    All the best,

    Joy/the Leopard Lounge

  • Hi, do you have 7,6K 8,1K set? How much you want for it ?

  • Because of this video and skydog's I bought these pickups. Absolutely incredible!

  • You gotta love them Tbaks.........LOL....I love spending other peoples money......congrats my brotha

  • sigh. beautiful tone and playing my friend... just when I think there's nothing else to buy!

  • Thanks.......yeah I know the feeling.

  • i dont think i'll be able to afford the limited's right now. would you suggest getting the regular sle's or going with a different brand??

  • Definitely get the regular SLE's if you cant buck up for the limiteds.

  • thanks for the help!

  • Phil, I'm sitting here listening to this demo and I'm thinking, 'this is some of the sweetest tone I've ever heard.' Do you think these Throbak's will sound pretty good in my R9?

  • Absolutely 110% ..........YES!!

  • Sweet sounding Les Paul! If you get a chance could you post a clip with some clean sounds? What kind of amp are you playing through?

    Great playing!

  • Thanks for the comment. You aint gonna get much cleaner than a BF Super reverb.

  • I'm really looking for some great PAF style pickups for my R9 Historic LP. How many different styles of PAFs did you try before settling on the Throbaks?

    Nice playing BTW.

    Thanks,

    Paul

  • Thanks for the comment. Ive only tried 1 other pup before going with the TBaks. I had the Tom Holmes 450 and 455 in the 02 R8 for about 3 years before just switching to the Tbaks. I love both pups, but the Tbaks neck pup clarity is amazing compared to the Holmes.

  • man I love this vid...

    had to hear it twice!

  • Thanks gonz,,,more to come later.

  • Man those sound really good!! Gr8 playing as always. How often do u change pick-ups? Man that must be alot of re-stringing huh??

  • Thanks Yozo. This is the 3rd set of pups in this guitar since April 02.

  • These sound great. Just like the real thing!

  • yes they are...nothing closer IMHO

  • Hi, love the sound! But did you have chance to play with Dave Stephens (SD PAF pickups) they are also very close to originals?

  • No I did not. Thanks for the comment.

  • oh maaaan, that neck pup is tasty. I better start saving up, hahaha

  • A vid with the Metro 45 Doctor, if you please. Are these the pups that cost an arm & a leg? Sweet vid Phil !! Keep 'em coming.

  • its like 350 for a set, 450 if you want NOS wire. quite expensive for a machine wound set compared to big pickup joints but in this case you get what you pay for.

and still much, much, much cheaper than real pafs =/

  • Actually no more than the Holmes and much closer to a PAF than anything Ive ever heard or played.

  • You and Dan are killing me with this pickups.

Sounds fantastic! Especially the neck pup. Warm, clear, and articulate. Very nice playing to boot!

  • Thanks T. You gotta get a pair of these!

  • That NECK pickup is AMAZING!!!

  • Yeah it really reminds me of the R9 with PAF's. Thanks dd.

  • That sounds flippin' beautiful!!!!! Very PAF!!!!
