the v6 doesn't sound too bad, though the power they got from it wasn't much, especially when peugeot got more power when they put it in the talbot tagora.
So basically the car is only good because of the design and the design was done by an Italian dude - so what exactly did De Lorean do then? He organzied money to build a car so flawed and expensive abusing locations with high unemployment rates, gathering tax money into a car that was not even waterproof or fast enough to be called a sports car. Only because of the BTTF movies the design raised a cult phenomena, and again that was a pure design choice - which leads back to the Italian guy.
@Tony - taxpayer monies? Like the leerfan jet company nearby that got 2x the money and never made a single plane before the UK govt shut them down? At least DMC made 9 thousand cars - you make nothing but noise.
Personally I completely agree with Irvine. As much as I love the DeLorean the choice of engine used was the worst decision made during production. Can't really call it a sports car with that thing sitting in the back. If anyone owns or is going to own a DeLorean and they can afford to do so then replace the engine amongst other things, many have done this and its worth it.
This documentary just confirms what anyone who has read anything about it will already know - Delorean the man was a user of people and a pretty unpleasant character and the car itself was pathetic. Unfortunately, a huge amount of taxpayers money was wasted meaning, as usual, it's the ordinary person in the street who ends up being screwed.
Just get one that's been driven and maintained properly. A lot of cars sat for 15 to 20 years because people didn't realize parts were available even after the factory closed in 1982. The worst thing you can do for any vehicle is to let them sit.
yeah i read about a guy who let his sit for so long that when he finally got it out it wouldn't start, the struts were bad, the interior was rotted, the body had dust like you would not believe!
When this thing hits 88, we're gonna see some serious shit.

The windshield and the frame for the Delorean comes from the Lotus Esprit.
jammer96 2 years ago
@jammer96 the frame is similar but not exactly the same, and the windshield is NOT the same as for the lotus Esprit.
