@ritaribas Actualy they are a very graceful, beautiful and harmeless creature, all you gotta do is just let them be, dont interfere with their life cicle and dont destroy their habitat, simple isnt it? All you got to do to save a species from extinction is dont interfere with them in any way. Nature is 99.9% perfect, but it failed a lot letting us evolve :)
@ritaribas I mean they will not strike while on flight because if you mess with them while they're on the ground, speacily if they are on the nest, and get a taste of their beak you will not want to do it a second time. They have a lot o power on their beak, but they will do everything to avoid humans, actualy its a very gracefull animal and harmeless, and its a CRIME punished by law to kill or harm in any way these animals, not just but also, because its an endangered specie.
@ritaribas Azores is not a Portuguese island, Azores is an archipelago of nine islands, devided in three groups belonging to the Portuguese territory. And the big majority of the world population (74%) of these birds, named Cagarro, make their nest there. Cagarro (Calonectris diomedea borealis) is the most abundant water bird in Azores and also one of the oldest birds on earth. And they will avoid humans and may fly very close but will not strike if people are indangering their nests.
Its Cagarros , a sort of sea bird that lives in Portuguese islands from Madeira to Azores its comon there . But in the continent i donk think they live here i live close to the sea in Portugal and never heard them .
actually some old people says that they are saying "quem é, quem é ,quem é?" in english its who is? who is. they say that stories to scare kids :) nice vid
When I was a teenager I lived on Terceira, another island in the Azores archipelago. The first time I heard this noise was in the middle of the night and believe me, it scared the hell out of me too!
hehe, sounds like Alvin and the chipmunks... I would have been scared if I had been there (and I don't believe in shit like ghosts)... the clip reminds me Blair project... really weird your vid. hehe.
I live in Azores and i can tell that is a bird called "cagarro" to see some photos of that beautiful bird go to google and search for ( photos of cagarros ) they only come to Azores islands on summer.
This is the call of the Cory's Shearwater. It breeds on rocky cliffs in the Canary Islands, Madeira and further afield. The calls can be heard from February onwards, when birds return to their breeding haunts.

I to live in Azores, cagarros.. they get "enchanted" by lights at night, actualy they fly directly to them :S
If U point one directly to their eyes, they get blind and lose control on flying
