It's stereotyped as this ridiculously addictive game in which only losers play. It's not. That whole video was staged. One, look at the size of the camera. He would have noticed it. Two, he exited his room just as his brother entered. Three, that's all acting. Every bit of it. How can't you tell that every bit of it is acting?
Well, those two things can be explained, sort of. He might NOT have noticed it in his fit of rage, or didn't see it was recording. Now I believe that tantrum was fake, but in any case you need to understand just how long it takes to build a powerful character in that game. You spend AGES getting incrementally better magical equipment and leveling up. If all that, and we're talking months/years of "hard work", is taken away in an instant, you'd be pissed off. And I'm not even getting into how addictive that game is. It's called World of Warcrack for a reason.

I used to play WoW, I might be able to shed some light on the situation.
In order to accomplish anything in that game you have to sink a ridiculous amount of hours of really... work. It's really not even playing a game, it's as tedius as a desk job.
So imagine really anything else in your life you've spent 200+ hours working on, perhaps writing a book, or a term paper. If it were to suddenly get deleted, you'd most likely freak the fuck out.
Yes Furrdoc, you make a good point. I had a similar sort of attack (though not this bad) that was caused by an anxiety attack due to my writing. I didn't act like THIS, of course, but I couldn't breathe and I had REALLY freaky dreams when I tried to go to bed after staying up for a wole night.

Most people actually play games like world of warcraft for the social aspect. In real life someone might be a complete loser, but in a fantasy world like that they can be anyone they want to be. The medium might be a game but the relationships you make are real.
Not to mention you're wrong about not gaining anything. Those accounts can actually be sold for a fair amount of money when you spend alot of time on them.
There are millions of people who play world of warcraft, so there is a large market for characters/digital items. I myself made 250$ by selling my account when I was done with it. It's not something you could make a living on, but its a decent return for a hobby.
You actually could make a living off world of warcraft, seeing as many people do it. You can no life "Box" accounts, have 5 level 70s in month or less. And i'v seen Level 70 characters (now level 80) being sold for up to 1 to 5 thousand dollars.

First of all think about how it was filmed, the brother runs into the room and sets up a webcam, and then the other kid leaves the room and the brother comes back in to take the camera down. You can't tell that the video where to kid flips out is fake? I play World of Warcraft, and I consider myself a relatively hardcore player, along with my friends. It's stereotyped as this ridiculously addictive game in which only losers play. It's not. That whole video was staged. One, look at the size of the camera. He would have noticed it. Two, he exited his room just as his brother entered. Three, that's all acting. Every bit of it. How can't you tell that every bit of it is acting?

Well, those two things can be explained, sort of. He might NOT have noticed it in his fit of rage, or didn't see it was recording. As for the enter/exit thing, he did wait a little bit 'til he ran in. What makes me suspicious is when he takes the camera and looks in it and says, "did you fucking see that?"
I can't be sure if it's real or fake, but I still find it funny. I don't blame WoW, though, if it is real. I don't really like the game, but I blame his parents.

You cant really cancel your WoW account, the Mother is just prollie not gonna pay the monthy fee anymore, therefore the accout goes dormant, yet still exists with all his chars, etc....till he can pay the monthly fee or get a time card. Now I believe that tantrum was fake, but in any case you need to understand just how long it takes to build a powerful character in that game. You spend AGES getting incrementally better magical equipment and leveling up. If all that, and we're talking months/years of "hard work", is taken away in an instant, you'd be pissed off. And I'm not even getting into how addictive that game is. It's called World of Warcrack for a reason.

Whether or not the video is real or staged I don't know. I suspect it's staged, but I've known kids with temper problems exactly like that so it wouldn't be at all surprising. Kids like this need a good old fashioned butt whoopin' by dad!
As for the social aspect of games like WoW, I play it, it's lots of fun, and I actually met my fiance playing the game! She's amazing! My account actually got hacked and shut down, but I'm not throwing a tantrum. It's just a stupid game.

It's one of THE worst games to play for this very reason. People get to playing it, then end up becoming addicted, and then they end up in counseling for it.
Honestly, I don't think this is fake. He's got a case of obsessive-compulsive disorder. But, then again, others have had it worse--a guy in Japan died due to intestinal poison because he never got up from his computer for three days to go to the bathroom. The cause? World of Warcraft.

You can say "but its only a video game" and you're absolutely right, it's an extremely unproductive waste of time). But the amount of time people spend (unhealthily) working on their characters is ridiculous.
That's why there are so many of these crazy irrational WoW flipout videos out there.
I would say games like this should be banned, but there are plenty of people capable of playing them casually for reasonable amounts of time, and it wouldn't be fair for those individuals.

I used to play WoW, I might be able to shed some light on the situation.
In order to accomplish anything in that game you have to sink a ridiculous amount of hours of really... work. It's really not even playing a game, it's as tedius as a desk job.
So imagine really anything else in your life you've spent 200+ hours working on, perhaps writing a book, or a term paper. If it were to suddenly get deleted, you'd most likely freak the fuck out.
Is the behavior exusable? no. understandable? yes

Yes Furrdoc, you make a good point. I had a similar sort of attack (though not this bad) that was caused by an anxiety attack due to my writing. I didn't act like THIS, of course, but I couldn't breathe and I had REALLY freaky dreams when I tried to go to bed after staying up for a wole night.

Not to mention you're wrong about not gaining anything. Those accounts can actually be sold for a fair amount of money when you spend alot of time on them.
There are millions of people who play world of warcraft, so there is a large market for characters/digital items. I myself made 250$ by selling my account when I was done with it. It's not something you could make a living on, but its a decent return for a hobby.

As impressive as that video was, pretty sure it was a fake video. First of all think about how it was filmed, the brother runs into the room and sets up a webcam, and then the other kid leaves the room and the brother comes back in to take the camera down.
