I was fortunate enough to tour the Hagia Sophia in 2000 and it is absolutely beautiful and stunning. The sense of history and peace that I felt in such a stunning piece of Byzantine architecture was overwhelming. I most certainly hope it stands as long as humankind exists. Istanbul is a large overpopulated city that is about to sink into the sea, and it is draining off the wealth of the rest of Turkey. I would say 90% of the population is living in poverty. Izmir and Ankara are far superior cities. If Turkey is so great how come five million of them are in Germany now and Turkey is begging to get in the EU.

I was fortunate enough to tour the Hagia Sophia in 2000 and it is absolutely beautiful and stunning. The sense of history and peace that I felt in such a stunning piece of Byzantine architecture was overwhelming. I most certainly hope it stands as long as humankind exists. Get over this fact, 1453, when a commander conquers the city, he has the right to do everything, even so, Fatih Sultan Mehmet asked that Istanbul be given to him without a fight, and if so, he shall keep Hagia Sophia as a church, but the price has been paid, Constantinople, also known as East Rome was conquered through battle, thus, Fatih Sultan Mehmet rightfully converted Hagia Sophia into a mosque.
