  • Excellent footage! Hats off!

Aren't you afraid your feet will get stuck behind the lower part of the mastfoot, that is under your decks? This seems to be a risk when you have to leave your boat after a capsize.

How well can you sail the kayak across the wind or even to windward? Dou you use leeboards?

  • Great images. I've been looking for videos of conditions in Bass Strait. I'd love to see a high quality video!

  • That was amazing. I'm just starting to kayak and hopefully I will be able to tour Flinders Island. Did you make your sails or are they purchased? Also can you tack with those types of sails (meaning the sprit/gaff-like sails)? Keep up the touring and excellent videos.

  • Yes we make our own sails, they vary considerably in size and shape. The taller, narrower sails are best for sailing into or across the wind. Most sails allow us to tack across the wind and the dagger rudder helps to stop the kayak sliding sideways in cross winds.

  • wow! thats cool, is it an actual tour they run on flinders?

  • No, this was a Maatsuyker Canoe Club trip with some Victorian sea kayakers along for the paddle.

I have just come back from another visit to Flinders Is by the maatsuyker canoe Club in Feb 2009.
