It's nostalgic to see the old Hawaii offense run by Paul Johnson. It's the polar opposite of the run and shoot, but when PJ was the OC, it always moved the ball.

Paul Johnson got his formation from the Run and Shoot and still employs R&S concepts in his passing game.

Watch the ugly Peach Bowl against LSU from this past season - they run Go, Switch, etc.

@vousallezvous yah he was mocking Ty Detmer being given the Heisman! It was a nod to the BYU program. The New York athletic club felt they had to do it after overlooking McMahon & Young, After the ass kicking BYU got that day including Detmer personally being demolished, The NYAC was totally embarrassed for their choice ...JUST AS THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN!

Wish that Hawaii beat Mich St in the Honolulu Bowl., Oh well they did win the Holiday Bowl in 1992 over illinois. Garret Gabbriel was a hell of a QB.

This game was played a few hours after Detmer won the Heisman. I watched the entire game; Hawaii had BYU's number.

Staley probably eight years old when this game was played so he couldn't help much. Plus,in the later game he didn't play defense or special teams so...anyway you guys always had your way so let us enjoy.

People (especially Hawaii fans) tend to forget that BYU was playing without it's top runningback Luke Staley. Staley was such a huge part of the Cougar offense that, had he not been injured, this game would have probably turned out very different.

everyone will find some type of excuse to why 1 team lost. so keep making excuses but just know that Hawaii was the BETTER team that night.. so were they in 89. cant wait till we play BYU again..

It's already scheduled. Hawaii will play at BYU in 2012 and BYU will play at Hawaii in 2013.

the only team i hate more than notre dame is by-who... doesnt matter, 2001 72-45 hawaii scores many tds against an undefeated by-who team who kept bitching about not making it to the bcs. well we showed the #9 ranked team that it wont happen. louisville followed it up as welll in the bowl game. 72 points most hawaii has ever scored. Ever.....
