Thank you for sharing your awesome little brother. It is sad that we still can't get past the rude and hurtful things that people say. My niece was diagnosed when she was four and she too is making wonderful progress with the help of loving, caring people. We can learn so much from our children.
No. The word 'retard' is absolutely fine if it's not being used to offend someone with a disability. Why make another word taboo? My friend drops a pizza and I say "that was retarded", I didn't hurt your son or anyone else. If I walk up to your son's face and call him that, that's being offensive. "Mental retardation" as a medical term isn't offensive either, although it's now being changed. There are people who aren't going to stop using it because of social trends and I agree wit their reasons
@themangodess If your friend drops a pizza and you say "that was retarded" then you imply that people with developmental challenges are clumsy and stupid. My son is neither clumsy nor stupid. He leads his class in both reading and mathematics. Think before you speak.
@themangodess Even as a medical term it is still considered offensive. It is being removed from all medical books. This is the 21st century and it is OFFENSIVE.
@themangodess If you told somebody with mis-matched clothes "You look Polish" or somebody who won't loan you money "Don't be a Jew" would that be alright as long as long as a Pole or a Jew didn't hear you? Your logic is convaluted at best
Beautiful Video! God bless you and your family for all the extra steps you have taken to help Robby grow and develop! I believe this not only helps him but is a great learning tool for the other children in Robby's family and even the adults and friends of anyone in the family!!! The world as a whole has lost so much love and compassion for others it is always touching to see people (especially children) that still care and still know how to fully LOVE.
that awfull i cant belive an adult would say such a thing to a child .to bad someone dodnt let her have it my mom put a few people in there p[lace bavck in the day ,but being mean tto any child is just awfull
It's not just wrong to call people "retarded" to their face, but behind their backs as well. It is a word that should never be used as a derogatory thing.
@dazedandsublime No we did NOT just let him bang his head on the floors and walls all day everyday. We have always been vigilant in his care. He hit his head out of frustration over the inability to communicate and also as a stimming behavior. We have utilized deep pressure massage, brushing techniques, pressure vests, weighted blankets and countless other methods to help control difficult behavior. Don't judge unless you've experienced it.
@rachaelcabc123 I have a 14 year old son with Down's syndrome, and have spent lots of time with children and adults with varying abilities. You should not have to explain yourself like this, but ignorance is all around. It makes me sad, but it makes me more sad for people who do not understand. They are really missing out on the many blessings. Take care and enjoy your family.
@dazedandsublime You need to learn a little bit about things before you judge. And especially you do not need to cuss. This family is awesome and has already gone through enough grief with that lady at the park. It is my experience that people with disabilities are often times a lot nicer than "normal" people are.
@Danny66679 Robby was trying to climb up the playground. The woman was standing at the entrance. He tried to introduce himself. He said "My name is Robby". His language is difficult to understand especially if you don't know him. The woman looked at him and muttered "retard". I was stunned. I didn't know what to say. I just grabbed my son and left. I should have been so proud of him for initiating a conversation. That was a really tough lesson to learn. Thx for your support!
I love this! My older sister has Autism, mental retardation, bipolar disorder, and cp. I know how much it hurts to hear someone use the r word to call some thing dumb. Because she is not dumb at all.
I am Swedish but have spent a fair bit of time abroad in English speaking countries. One of my friends from my travels is from Germany and lives in the US. She often refers to people as retards and tries to convince me that it is not offensive, but indeed the medical term. Next time I hear her say it I will make sure to let her know exactly how offensive it really is!
I will join your cause, it is never acceptable to use that word. My daughter (Meghan) worked for several years with autistic kids and I had the pleasure to meet most of them. Autism is so often misunderstood. We are all made wonderfully special and unique.
Knowing my cousin(Robby's Mom), it's a wonder the Tracy temper didn't come out, and the nasty woman is still upright after that awful comment! Love you all!!
i know robby he is so cute.people should be ashamed to judge people on there disabilaties.this is filiz, kaylin, faithe,&neshe .we know maddy, daisey and aj. we wish the best for robby and your family.
Medical science used to classify people as "Morons" "Imbeciles" and "Idiots" too It wasn't right then and calling people retards isn't right now

@delinquent220 lets not forget classifying Down Syndrome as "mongols" and mute people as "dumb"

Thank you! If we can change how just one person thinks and speaks, then this video was definately worth it.
