It wasn't Blackout - it was Wipeout with Peter Tomarken hosting. Why did they ever take Pyramid off the air - that was one of the most questionable decisions ever.
@scoobydoo11111 You're wrong. When Pyramid returned in April of 1988, it was a replacement for the short-lived Blackout, a 13-week show hosted by Bob Goen. Blackout was the only game show ever to replace and be replaced by the same show.
@jhillst ---Seconded. "Wipeout" was syndicated....Possibly that one market played Wipeout instead........I read in a book about daytime TV by Wesley Hyatt that the ABC game show "Blankety Blanks" replaced "Brady Bunch" reruns, but "Bunch" came back & replaced "Blanks" again. (I thought that the Pyramid/Blackout was the only occurrence of this.) The "Blackout" idea wasn't a bad one, but the bonus game had nothing to do with the main game.
Betty White was phenomenal in game shows. She and Vicki Lawrence were absolutely the best celebrities on game shows. I also like Adrienne Barbeau, Shelley Smith, Henry Polic II, Mary Cadorette and Teresa Ganzel as celebrity players.
@nextbarker "The $10,000 Pyramid," "The $20,000 Pyramid," and the original version of "The $25,000 Pyramid" were all born in New York and thrived there. This version of "The $25,000 Pyramid" is the remake, so where the Pyramid really belongs is the Ed Sulklivan Theater or the CBS Broadcast Center (the Elysée Theater no longer exists) with those exciting and explosive New York audiences to go with contestants from all different moulds.
Betty was a great player! Why did GSN remove Pyramid and classic episodes of the Price Is Right? Now they show a handful of classics, and alot of crap.
It's understandable why they removed Pyramid. All they were showing was nothing but the same 1986-1987 episodes of the $100K version over and over and over and over and over and over again.
Trust me, the $100K version is not the only version of Pyramid worth watching.
That might be the stupidest reason ever! You would think that it wouldn't have any bearing on the ratings. If anything, people will look at Drew Carey and decide whether they want to continue watching or not.
well let's just say the $25,000 Pyramid "took a break". CBS replaced it with a game show called "Blackout" when it was canned in december 1987. then pyramid returned for 13 weeks starting april 1988. both this pyramid and the $100,000 pyramid (syn. version) were ultimately canned in summer '88.
I think this was the last version of this show to air on network television. It last aired on CBS July 1, 1988. It was replaced the following Monday by "Family Feud" with Ray Combs.
I definitely agree with you. Betty zero in on the clues. Shelly Smith, Ilene Graf, and her were the best female celebriites. Are you going to have more winner circle wins from both pyramids here soon?
Me too. And I also hope they get the other years, as well. Remember, GSN only showed the first season (1982-1983), and the last several months (1987-1988); they've never shown anything in between 1983-1987 at all.
Love that cluck cluck sound of the seconds......timeless!!

To TheDA1983's point, I wonder how much money Betty White helped "her" contestants win during her long career in game shows. She is so smart!

The reason for removing "TPIR" was because the head of CBS was afraid it would affect the ratings of new episodes of the show.
