@000JERRY0000 Last one I saw on ebay was about $20,000 for a stock cobra R engine. Hard to find those parts, but you can get the Cobra R heads from Ford, and you can sometimes find the magnesium intake manifold, and find an aluminum 5.4L block and you can build your own. Good luck with that though.

So no you will be lucky to find one, but it is possible to replicate one with some aftermarket work

It weights 3589 pounds. The Cobra R didn't have a radio, back seat or ac unit. It came with a 6 speed tranny. There was only 300 of these cars built. SVT wanted a car that a person could drive to the track beat other top built cars and then be able to drive it back home again. Thats what they acomplished with it.

The wrx is scary fast off the line. The AWD is a beast. But its still meant for rally racing. the 2000 Cobra R is the ultimate, in my eyes, track car. Theres no better feeling then hitting the apex of a turn and having you foot on the floor coming out!

I've owned Mustangs (a BULLITT, a Mach 1 and a Terminator Cobra) and a Corvette Z06 and when it comes to actual road course racing (I don't consider drag racing real racing).
Corvettes > Mustangs. Hands down
Mustangs need slicks just to keep up with 'vette's on street tires. Of course if you dump enough money into any vehicle it can be faster than any other vehicle so if we're talking apples to apples on a stock car from the factory (and taking price out of the picture) Corvette's win it...

Cobras are great cars for the street and that's where it ends. Take them to the track and push their limits and you notice the "on a budget" engineering very quickly. Take a Z06 to the track and you feel the depth of engineering behind the product.
But again if you want a fast car for a cheap price... You'd have to be crazy not to buy a Terminator Cobra.
im looking at the value of a 04 vette z06. 26-30k and 04 cobra 20-25k meh. not too much a difference in value. but yeah, corvette will always win if its stock.

2) this Cobra R has a completely built motor IIRC, and was designed for road racing, so it would naturally beat a GT500 in a course
3) Straight line, GT 500= 540hp, and is the most powerful production model mustang to date...I don't think Ford development is slacking, they're not the ones going bankrupt

I believe the reason the GT500 didn't have an IRS, is because it was already a fat pig, and the IRS would have simply added more weight..and its its straight line performance oriented, a SRA is better with holding hard launches.
Right, my Terminator is IRS which I love, but I've been told that the GT500s still handle really well. I often wonder if I could beat one around the track though (I have 520 RWHP)

Nice. MAM is a fun course...I was out there about 4.5 yrs ago in my Fairmont. Once you get used to that corner with the super late appex, its very rythmic.
If that cobra R had a supercharger on it (preferably a KenneBell) based on it's Forged Internals it would make well over 750 RWHP! So the Zr1 steps in with 625 and no one knows if it is RWHP but even if it is lol ford can still devistate it. On top of that Ford only placed basic tires on the Cobra R throw some 345/35/17 on that cobra R with a KenneBell and it will devistate the 09ZR for only 38,000.00 less. FYI you can't put a smaller blower pully or port the ZR1 because of its German design.
The Fact that the Cobra R is heavy, makes it an impressive car - because we all know even the Z06 with the smaller motor isn't easy to beat... Especially on a track!

O.K.dumbass!! if you knew anything about open track events, an arm out window means to pass. The Corvette never could keep up with the mustang for the rest of the track time. You wave a car by if you are being overtaken or you will be required to by the flag man to you do not hold anyone up. I've owned Mustangs (a BULLITT, a Mach 1 and a Terminator Cobra) and a Corvette Z06 and when it comes to actual road course racing (I don't consider drag racing real racing).
Corvettes > Mustangs. Hands down
Mustangs need slicks just to keep up with 'vette's on street tires. Of course if you dump enough money into any vehicle it can be faster than any other vehicle so if we're talking apples to apples on a stock car from the factory (and taking price out of the picture) Corvette's win it...

Agreed. It's a great value. But when you hit the track, the last thing you're thinking of is "value"...
Cobras are great cars for the street and that's where it ends. Take them to the track and push their limits and you notice the "on a budget" engineering very quickly. Take a Z06 to the track and you feel the depth of engineering behind the product.
But again if you want a fast car for a cheap price... You'd have to be crazy not to buy a Terminator Cobra.

Also you dont know a whole lot about the Cobra series obviously, because its not all "less shit". The normal Cobra of that time had a 4.6L engine, but the R model came with a 5.4L bad boy engine. This thing was built with the idea the owner would be spending alot of time at the track. And, Ass420, the vette got OWNED on that straight, pure and simple.

While the Cobra R is definitely something to look up to, the corvette has more of an advantage in the straights whether you want to believe it or not.
Notice i said IN THE STRAIGHTS so dont argue that the cobra has more to offer on the road course than the vette.

I can say that after the Mustang passed the Corvette, the vette never could keep up. However, since this video was shot the Corvette owner has since traded it in on a Z06 and there is no way The mustang can keep with it now. The mustang is a pony car, like the Camaro, Firebird, not a two seat lightweight sportscar.Anybody think that the Mustang Cobra R is still a P.O.S. try to hang with one on a roadcourse, If you don't have the balls to do that then shut youre pie hole!

I mean it still has to have practicality, it seems a meager attempt to blow corvette or viper out of the sales game but those cars still have luxuries and are faster engines, they keep that 5.4 liter engine, change the cams, Cold air intake, larger throttle body and plenum, intake manifold, port the heads, up- grade the exaust, and put in an a-c, lighter backseat and wheels, drive shaft aluminum, all these upgrades and still 48 grand. Just money hungry is all!!!!

if you think of a Cobra R as 'just a mustang'... then that's just one of your many problems. there's plenty of mustangs that are faster than corvettes, and vice versa. just depends on the models, years, and modifications. i guess living in a trailer park with no education has really held you back from keeping up though...

1) IRS were in the 03-04 Cobras, so that's invalid.
2) this Cobra R has a completely built motor IIRC, and was designed for road racing, so it would naturally beat a GT500 in a course
3) Straight line, GT 500= 540hp, and is the most powerful production model mustang to date...I don't think Ford development is slacking, they're not the ones going bankrupt

I believe the reason the GT500 didn't have an IRS, is because it was already a fat pig, and the IRS would have simply added more weight..and its its straight line performance oriented, a SRA is better with holding hard launches.

They dropped the IRS to knock $5000 off the price of the car mainly. Ford thought that the mustang was getting too expensive and was starting to get out of the reach of the average "gear head".

If that cobra R had a supercharger on it (preferably a KenneBell) based on it's Forged Internals it would make well over 750 RWHP! So the Zr1 steps in with 625 and no one knows if it is RWHP but even if it is lol ford can still devistate it. On top of that Ford only placed basic tires on the Cobra R throw some 345/35/17 on that cobra R with a KenneBell and it will devistate the 09ZR for only 38,000.00 less. FYI you can't put a smaller blower pully or port the ZR1 because of its German design.
