  • 5.4L is 331ci modular engine, 351 is 5.8L

  • @000JERRY0000 Last one I saw on ebay was about $20,000 for a stock cobra R engine. Hard to find those parts, but you can get the Cobra R heads from Ford, and you can sometimes find the magnesium intake manifold, and find an aluminum 5.4L block and you can build your own. Good luck with that though.

  • @000JERRY0000 no you cant from ford, and you will be VERY lucky to find one out there floating around. the closest thing out there is a 4.6 4v all aluminum v8, which can be stroked, and bored to 5.4 liters or more if wanted. So no you will be lucky to find one, but it is possible to replicate one with some aftermarket work

  • @cobra5405 yea but if you want it without a blower you will need to find different pistons and all, if i had a pick though i would just buy the 4.6 4v supercharged from an 03 or 04 cobra. as well as i think the lightning block is cast iron rather than aluminum

  • @IDontHateOnCars no the motor is different, the motor from the lightning uses a blown 5.4 from the f150, which at the time was a cast iorn 2v engine, the ford gt block is all aluminum, and has 4 valves per cylinder.

  • @cobra5405 But that would make slightly less power, more torque, and add about 200lbs to the front of the car, give or take, between the extra 95-100lbs of the iron block and the blower. I'd rather have a built aluminum 4.6 N/A in a road race car than the lightnings SOHC blown 5.4.

  • @zunelucero ummmmm no the cobra r did not have the same engine you find in the 5.4l Triton trucks. It was actually a 5.4l all aluminum dohc v8 like you find in the Ford gt. Minus the supercharger of course

  • and depending on what type of corvette this cobra was racing against it wouldn't have had a problem with outrunning a C6 vette down the strait. A ZO6 might be a differnt story but not a C6. I'm just tired of ppl fighting over the same stuip shit. Look up facts and specs and compare. We can sit here and argue all day, but what good will it do? The corvette is a amazing and very well built car eg... The ZR1 is a god in the car world. This Cobra with the right driver can beat most cars today.

  • Holy shit ok gm guys or the idiots who don't know wtf they are talking about. The 2000 Cobra R has a 5.4 N/A engine. It did 0 to 60 in 4.3 seconds and had a top speed of 175mph. It weights 3589 pounds. The Cobra R didn't have a radio, back seat or ac unit. It came with a 6 speed tranny. There was only 300 of these cars built. SVT wanted a car that a person could drive to the track beat other top built cars and then be able to drive it back home again. Thats what they acomplished with it.

  • Cobra R was a working piece of art. only 300 were made. 5.4 4valve make 385hp. was designed for serious track day. they are a beauty and exspenspive. but under the cicumstances it's a hard car to beat 80% track.. no radio,rear set and i think no a/c. sou you really wouldn't want to drive it much except to the track or car shows. great car and wish i had 1

  • I've owned Mustangs (a BULLITT, a Mach 1 and a Terminator Cobra) and a Corvette Z06 and when it comes to actual road course racing (I don't consider drag racing real racing).

    Corvettes > Mustangs. Hands down

    Mustangs need slicks just to keep up with 'vette's on street tires. Of course if you dump enough money into any vehicle it can be faster than any other vehicle so if we're talking apples to apples on a stock car from the factory (and taking price out of the picture) Corvette's win it...

    Cobras are great cars for the street and that's where it ends. Take them to the track and push their limits and you notice the "on a budget" engineering very quickly. Take a Z06 to the track and you feel the depth of engineering behind the product.

    But again if you want a fast car for a cheap price... You'd have to be crazy not to buy a Terminator Cobra.

This thing was built with the idea the owner would be spending alot of time at the track. And, Ass420, the vette got OWNED on that straight, pure and simple.

While the Cobra R is definitely something to look up to, the corvette has more of an advantage in the straights whether you want to believe it or not.

    Notice i said IN THE STRAIGHTS so dont argue that the cobra has more to offer on the road course than the vette.

However, since this video was shot the Corvette owner has since traded it in on a Z06 and there is no way The mustang can keep with it now.   • I mean it still has to have practicality, it seems a meager attempt to blow corvette or viper out of the sales game but those cars still have luxuries and are faster engines, they keep that 5.4 liter engine, change the cams, Cold air intake, larger throttle body and plenum, intake manifold, port the heads, up- grade the exaust, and put in an a-c, lighter backseat and wheels, drive shaft aluminum, all these upgrades and still 48 grand. Just money hungry is all!!!!

  • 1) IRS were in the 03-04 Cobras, so that's invalid.

    2) this Cobra R has a completely built motor IIRC, and was designed for road racing, so it would naturally beat a GT500 in a course

    3) Straight line, GT 500= 540hp, and is the most powerful production model mustang to date...I don't think Ford development is slacking, they're not the ones going bankrupt

  • haha its fine :P the GT500 was mainly built [I assume] for straight line performance, and another excuse for shelby to sign and throw his name on something that automatically raises the price $10,000 [lame]

    I believe the reason the GT500 didn't have an IRS, is because it was already a fat pig, and the IRS would have simply added more weight..and its its straight line performance oriented, a SRA is better with holding hard launches.

  • They dropped the IRS to knock $5000 off the price of the car mainly. Ford thought that the mustang was getting too expensive and was starting to get out of the reach of the average "gear head".

  • If that cobra R had a supercharger on it (preferably a KenneBell) based on it's Forged Internals it would make well over 750 RWHP! So the Zr1 steps in with 625 and no one knows if it is RWHP but even if it is lol ford can still devistate it. On top of that Ford only placed basic tires on the Cobra R throw some 345/35/17 on that cobra R with a KenneBell and it will devistate the 09ZR for only 38,000.00 less. FYI you can't put a smaller blower pully or port the ZR1 because of its German design.
