no body wants to be england,i' m south african and support the springboks, compare Tom Croft to Pierre Spies for instant, our players are the best, Cipriani compared to Morne Steyn, no comparison, nah england are like what 7th in the world rackings, they will never be no1, shame and there biggest rugby achievement is Johnny Wilkinson's drop in the 2003 world cup, shame its 2009 now ppl, no wonder they dont have new talent, dont challenge SA on rugby talent we have new guys every year
I disagree, in fact I'd wager I know a lot more than you my friend, England were struggling to win games in the Six Nations prior to the World Cup, Johnny Wilkinson comes into the Squad for the WC with drop goal and tactical kicking galore and they each the final, he's quickly injured thereafter and England start to loose games again. Coincidence?
Having the freedom to display his awsome awarenes and tactical kicking and the ability to drop goals with space, is as a result of the quality and quantity of ball he recieved from probably the best and most ferocious set of forwards we have seen for many a year. Allied with probably one one of the most underrated scrum halfs in the world, Matt Dawson. JW was class at his best, of course, but look what he had around him. He was sat in an arm chair.
Matt Dawson never took part in the 2007 WC, I agree the England 2003 squad was not a one man show having a couple of World Class players in the likes of Robnson, Johnson, Dallalio(sp), Lewsey, etc. It's the 2007 Squad I'm taking about. How do you explain England's gain and loss of form coinciding with Johnny Wilkinson's presence.
Having played the game to county and divisional level for 25 years and then coached for 13 years. I learned a long time ago that rugby is never a one man game, and never will be. England made that final by finding a vein of form, at last. Off course a good 10 makes all the difference to a team as long as he is getting good service and is able to work in space, which comes back to the quality and quantity of posession.

There's one reason alone that England reached the final and that reason is a man named Johnny Wilkinson.
