I wouldn't worry so much. Trust yourself. And not just in a vague, intellectual way. You know who you are, balls to bones. If someone else can't handle that, painful as it might be, then there's nothing wrong with either of you, it's just how it is.
The poem is beautiful. I think particularly because we can hear the nuances of feeling in your voice.
