  • stupid people think a music belongs to a country i thought they where welsh when i was kid oops.

  • @joebstarsurfer

I have been attempting to help people to understand that. I appreciate finding a similar perspective. My mama is half german and half polish, and used to sing this song to us at bedtime....

  • cant stand Enya. But thanks to Robin the Hooden man and most of uni students ish in england i like Clannad.

  • In my opinion moya is much more beautiful than enya, physically and musically.

  • @palatinodot Moya's also a very lovely person in terms on her behavior. She's been coming to the Dublin Irish Festival the last couple years and does long autograph sessions. Her daughter has inherited some of her talent as well. I think Enya's every bit as lovely physically but they're different types of beauty.

  • listened to this when visited England for the first time, lovely

  • @pamBBB Why were you listening to Irish music in England? lol

  • enya have a talented family ♥ imma fan of the clannad now

  • there are two women in the picture above. Is one of them Enya? I always wondered what she would look like without makeup and without dramatically dyed hair.

  • @allisonforfornsed Only one woman. The gent in the back with long hair is a young Pol Brennan.

  • @bluesagg LOL...thanks...he sure looks feminine though! Is the women Moya Brennan, then?

  • @allisonforfornsed Yeah, that's an equally young Moya. My guess is Pol grew the beard for the reason you mention. Without a doubt he looks the most like Enya.

  • @bluesagg I think Enya is so amazingly beautiful. I wonder how it's possible for someone to be so beautiful.

  • @allisonforfornsed Good genes? :) I imagine happiness and contentment probably play some role in Enya keeping her looks.

  • @bluesagg yeah seriously! geez I would SO trade lives with her....although I will point out that, it is obvious that she has had a nose job. but even so, she was always beautiful anyway.

  • @allisonforfornsed I adore Enya but I absolutely love Moya. Get some quiet time and really give this song a listen.

  • They also did the popular theme song from the movie "Harry's Game".

  • I'm so used to the Celtic Woman version of this song, but this is good too ^^ <3

  • ....back home...back to the roots , ich komme nachhause....de regreso a casa....

  • this gaelic music has so much feeling (and I'm feeling it now!)

  • Really good!! I love it!!!

  • After hearing Judy Collins' version of this song, I said to myself, "that's beautiful! I must learn that language!" When I did, I found out her version was highly corrupt and that, in the "Irish" part of the lyrics, she was actually singing gibberish! No matter! I'm glad I did!

  • @angreagach She's not singing gibberish, it makes sense. She's wishing for her love to come home.

  • @oxlMiaowlxo She sings the verses in English (which is NOT gibberish). It is her version of the "Gaelic" refrain that is gibberish.

  • Comment removed

  • @angreagach 'her version of the gaeilic refrain'?????? The refrain is spot-on-correct. You I fear speak jibberish.

  • @DamianNixon Spot on? Hardly. Right off the bat, she pronounces the vocative particle “a” in “a rún” like a long English a. (It should be pronounced pretty much like the ordinary unemphatic pronunciation of the English indefinite article (“a,” as in “a book”).) Not only that, but she repeats this word (used before the name (or substitute for a name) of a person you are addressing) before the following adverbs, where it definitely does not belong. That alone is hardly “spot on.”

  • @angreagach haha. i know. i'm windin you up professor! ...Is cad chuige an béarla uait mar sin? Ba cheart duit bheith a' scríobh as gaedhilge, nach ea?

  • @DamianNixon Ní raibh mé ag scríobh chugatsa amháin. Ní bheadh ach cuid bheag de na daoine eile ábalta mé a thuiscint dá mbeinn ag scríobh i nGaeilge. Agus bhí do theachtaireacht féin i mBéarla freisin.

  • daerk Irish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The vocals are absolutely perfect.

  • Strings - creating sound of pure beauty.

Strings - sounding like tearing hearts

Strings - so effficient weapons against war itself. If only once in his life every officer, every general, every secretary of defence could hear this song, this world would become more peaceful!

  • @torven137 And ofc thats why they used the Fiddle & Drum to march into war..

  • @torven137 I've got news for you: Most generals, admirals and other officers have no desire whatsoever to fight in a war. They fight in wars because it is their duty to do so, not because they enjoy it. It is politicians who start wars, largely because they never have to fight in them.

  • The most beautiful song of a longing woman i ever heard. Longing for her husband, longing for peace. So sad and beautiful it makes me cry

  • Scotland forever! Or Ireland, whatever! :o)

  • One of the greatest songs sung by one of the great groups - magnificent and thanks for posting it.

  • i had no clue that enya was part of this band XDDDD holy crap, the way that my favorite artists come together. lol

  • @mullent169 - It's not Enya. It's her sister Moya Brennan.

  • @jadampreisscore Yes she was part of the band, look it up. She may not be in this album but she was before. >:P that's what i tried to explain 8 months ago LOL

  • @jadampreisscore Enya was part of the band when it began

  • @mullent169 Enya wasn't really a part of Clannad. She's a sister to Máire, Pól and Cíarán. A very talented family.

  • Judy Collins also did a very nice version of this, back in the day.

  • maith thu Máire agus Enya, is go mbannaigh libh go léir san Gruppa Clannad, is go n´eirigh an bothar libh go Gaoith Dobhair

  • @LambayJim What was that? All I could understand was Well done Mary and Enya, as you all --- --- --- Clannad then something to do with travelling down a road --- Gweedore. I am still learning, lol.

  • a song I love!

  • One of my most favourite songs

  • Agreed. When the echo chamber and dry ice arrived I left the room.

Crann Ull is stil an album for my Desert Island list.

  • Wonderful music! :)

    Ruiseart.

  • Now that does bring me back , beidh la eile againn s'na blianta ata le teacht Slan Tamaill

  • Beautiful song, perfectly describes me :D

  • I love this song. i heard it about 13 years ago for the first time and it is still my favorite! :D

  • Amazing song, amazing album, amazing band; and Maire - an angel voice. Love Éire!

  • Go raibh maith agat gabh mo leithscéal

  • Go raibh maith agad, gabh mo leithscéal

  • Was für ein schönes Lied. Ich liebe es. Danke Clannad

Tá amhrán go hálainn. Tá grá agam air. Go raibh mo agad, a Chlannad

  • I love the lang. and Irish tradition in general but I still don't know it... can someone please translate?

  • @MorningKillsDawn There's a Wikilink about this song. The translation can be found in there, along with a history.

  • Fantastic version. I like this song in many versions.

  • can't believe she sings "...I'll sell my only spinning wheel to buy my love a sword of steel..." I think "...you'll sell your only spinning mill to buy me darling shoes on heel..." would be a much more honest female declaration ;) beautiful as a song may be. love it anyway!

  • I remember hearing this song first as a version by the German folk band Elane. I love both versions of it, just because this song is so amazingly beautiful.

  • Almost 30 years since I bought my first Clannad album. Had forgotten how great they were back then. Music that stands the test of time.

  • i love clannad.the song i listened to the most when i was young was two sisters and this is my first time listening to this version of Siuil A Run.it's beautiful ^_^ thank you

  • run, my love.

  • Clannad songs, really make wanna learn Irish, and I'm sure I will, for it's indeed a beautiful language (:

Síochána agus grá ó tSeirbia, a chairde! (:

  • very sweet!!!

  • Their trad stuff is way better than the new age stuff. I don't even know why they switched.

  • This song is a curiosity of mine. It doesn't appear in ANY compilation of traditional Irish music I have ever seen, but it clearly covers or is in response to a period of Irish history (the wild geese of 1691). If someone out there knows anything about the history of this song or where I might go to research it I would be very grateful.

  • @k6musicteacher doubt it was the Wild Geese...they went to Spain. "and now my love has gone to France to try his fortune to advance" sounds like he might have joined the french army or something similar

  • @Sidcup12

Actually they went all over the place. There were *definitely* Wild Geese in France, though: the thing to remember is that it wasn't just one group-the term referred to any of the people who fled after risings from the 17th to the 19th centuries.

  • I admit, I've heard of Clannad but have never given them a listen until now. I love how dreamy it sounds, like a wistful Irish lullaby. At the risk of sounding like a pretentious hack, I'm adding them to my faves list simply because of the inspiration it provides from the sound.

    ^^

  • all like this!

  • celts r celts, i'm from the south of england, remnants of what fought the romans & saxons,We did not flee to north nor to ireland

  • such a beautiful...soulful...song..........played it at my wedding as I walked down the isle......in an old Abbey ruin.....with a Irish Celtic band playing.....my dress from Ireland along with my flowers.......and had an Irish penny in my shoe and a traditional Irish cake(with Guinness in it)...our vows were Irish Celtic(in English) and a hand fasting..........all due to Clannad singing to Robin Hood in the 80's that got me into them........a beautiful wedding

  • The sound is...haunting.

  • Awesome song. :)

  • I love Clannad's older acoustic stuff. Does anyone know where I can find the sheet music or tab for this song? I would love to play this :)

  • Kocham ten kawałek

  • Wondeful celtic music!

  • Wonderfuel!

  • Beautiful........... thanks for posting.

  • I remember watching and listening to Clannad in Dublin many years ago....in a place called " The Coffee Kitchen" in Molesworth Street .back in the late 70's . I, at the time just thought they were really good. I have their first LP and each one signed it for me....very special indeed.

  • I love this

  • Yes I agree. I have heard this song performed by another groups and singers but this is without any doubt the best version so far. Just beautifull...

  • This is the very best version of this song. I don't think anything has been done since this album that compares with it. It's practically because of this album that I learned Irish ... and that I went to Ireland ... it meant a lot to me once, 20 years ago .... (sigh) I have it on a cassette tape in my attic somewhere ... thanks for the memories!

  • I love celtic music. the language is so mistic and beautiful. i adore the sound of harp and violins.

    thanx much for posting.

  • What the do you mean horsemouth53?? They are two seperate people!!! They are sisters!

  • Sorry if I correct you. Moya Brennan (Máire Ní Bhraonáin) is the elder sister of Enya (Eithne Ní Bhraonáin).

Enya left the band in 1982 and started her solo career.

  • i stand corrected.

  • i prefer moya brenan her voice is class

  • @LeslieWolf71

  • Very lovely song. Miss Clannad very much.

  • this song makes me drift away to a better world. with the help of a bottle of vino tinto of course.

  • first heard the Celtic Women version. I found this and I found it more to my liking. It's so nice....

  • semplicemente stupenda..!

  • The best version of this song by a mile

  • I ♥ Clannad

  • I like the older Clannad songs. They are more authenic.

  • this a very old trad. irish song and not made by clannad, so more authen. as this is hard to find.

Fantastic song:) i love it. Listen also to Mary Black when she sings it. she is wonderful as well + thta she she sings it 100% as it was supposed to be.

  • @irishguyseddy Sorry but Clannad is ......

  • @Johnson28316

Not a great idea to post when you're drunk...and stupid.

  • @irishguyseddy

    respect

  • so Brennen is the closest English phonetic spelling of Bhraonáin? My last name was originally Celligh, which I think is pronounced Kelly, but my great great grandfather Anglicized it to Kell when he came to Canada

  • If you're female it would be Ní Bhraonáin.

if you're male it would be Ó Braonáin

  • I don't have any Irish blood in me whatsoever (my dad's part Irish, but I'm adopted) but I have such a big love of Irish music and culture

  • lol thats enough to be irish in my book ;)

  • im Maltese Australia and i do have a large love of Irish music and culture. im learning Gaelic. i find it just beautiful just a just as much as Maltese culture :)

  • Beautiful song, from my favourite of all the Clannad albums.Their early Haunting Acoustic music has always been the best!

  • Is taspeántas go deimhin í seo. Bímse lán le bród nuair a chloisim amhránaíocht na hÉireann. Go mór mhór as Clannad. Seod!

  • I don't know what that means, but it looks pretty :)

  • :) its Irish for:

"Of the best! Máire is a gem!"

  • is go dté tú mo mhúirnin slán. I love this song!

  • So gorgeous. I wish all of the people so entranced by Celtic Woman would take the time to listen to some of Clannad's music. Genuine Celtic music with none of the hype or pretension. Thanks to SportyMike for this post.

  • Right on Dave! It seems like these folks don't rely on pitch correction computers either!

  • hmm.. what's wrong with this comment? Yeah I stole my nick from this song =) but it was years ago, and I consider it a tribute to a great song.

  • Absolutely awsome 100/100

  • The way the celtic sound is so spirit like. It is almost other worldly. It as if they infuse their music with magic. And the feeling in her voice is enchanting.

  • Their voices are haunting.

  • Of course celtic music is infused with magic. Its in the celtic blood and soul ^_~

  • tht is soo true =]]

  • This is THE TRUE version :P!

  • haha yeah first version i ever heard (and best) too.

  • I love this song
