  • Beautifull

  • And this is powered completely by the wind?

  • increibleee

  • I'd be terrified if I saw this on the beach.

Art should not be able to kill you. Unless it involves fire. Fire's allowed

  • What a wonderfully whimsical creation. It reminds me of clockwork life. Beautiful.

  • This is the most important creative synthesis of art and science of our era!

  • 6 people think they were graphic illusions made with a computer!

  • I feel like Leonardo da Vinci would weep tears of joy if he could see this. Right up his alley.

  • They're kind of terrifying, not going to lie

  • this is art???

  • And you know why some members of humanity make these incredible(-y terrifying) creations?

Because we FUCKING WANTED TO SHOW WE COULD.

  • This is one of the coolest fucking things I've ever seen.

  • I'm not sure why, but they look so beautiful....

  • HOOOOOOOOOOOOLY FUCK!!

  • This is extremely cool and amazing i love the one at 0:15

  • Animaris Currens Ventosa reminds me of Sir Terry Pratchett's "luggage," with it's hundreds of little legs! Positively amazing, and beautiful work!

  • Its like War of the Worlds.

  • This is both amazing and kinda creepy...I love it!

  • Is the music Philip Glass? Sounds like something from one of his Qatsi soundtracks.

  • Why doesn't he work on creating articulated limbs of some sort? This guy seems like he must be an amazing engineer.

  • Wind art? On MAI beach?

  • bravoooooo

  • @RabidButterflies It actually reminded me of naussica :D

  • Yep.

    We are DOOMED.

  • this is fucking amazing.

  • Thank you, Cracked.

You always lead me to the best things.

    ........ That can kill you.

  • WHY is he not famous yet?

  • the most amazing thing i seen!!

  • Man, I wanted to sleep tonight. Now, instead of sheep, I will be counting the number of yellow legs on that monstrosity as it slowly walks towards my house.

  • How did they stop the last one from just running into the sea?

  • @EpicFishFingers You will not believe this, but they "feel" the water with a special mechanism (something to do with, bottles, hoses and void) and change direction when they touch it.

    Please forgive my rusty English.

  • Anyone horrified by this wouldn't know art if it trampled over them on hundreds of little yellow tube legs.

  • @CaptPatapons but being horrified is what makes me think of it as art. -.o cause it directly summons and affects emotion.

+-you may reply and call me a faggot-+

  • love it AND scared of it. awesome

  • jus imagine some poor tourist jogger that sees that thousand legged faceless puppet of satanic magic charging towards him.

  • AAH, KILL IT!! KILL IT WITH FIRE!!

  • Insanely clever.

  • wtf

  • AAAAAAAHHH HELP

  • i stilll have no idea how these things work but its still amazing.

  • into antarctica? These things are what the Miskatonic university research team discovered in the ruins of Antarctica...

  • Notice how they move like a giant hairy centipede with human torsos for legs. (shudders)

  • Now all he has to do is make one of these non-euclidean, angular beings from an alternate Earth out of bones. ;-) Just kidding; they look like alien tumbleweeds mixed with Pre-cambrian life-forms.

  • I just WTF'd.

I am speechless. I think if i saw this on a beach i would shit my pants and promptly run it over with the beach patrol's 4x4.

Only Kris Kuksi's sculptures can compare to this.

  • lol ecological robots!!!

  • This is pretty fucking terrifying.

  • holy shitz.

  • Holy christ that could be deadly. If this guy went crazy he could put small sharp blades on/in the one at 1:00 along with some blades on the sides like a chariot to cut people on the sides and run it through a busy beach, killing hundreds and hundreds.

  • @pimpedsnoopy yes im sure the people wouldnt notice sharp blades coming towards them

  • That's just fucking creepy with that music...

  • I don't know about you guys, but I would fucking flip out if I saw this thing coming at me on a beach. This is terrifying.

  • Sweet Jesus. O_O I can't decide if I'm scared by these things or in love with them....

  • I love this man.... He made my day with his inventions.

  • Damn. All we have here in NJ are seagulls.

  • Put a knife or a gun on these and you will have the Terminator 1

  • It's amazing how fast those things move

  • That is really freakin' amazing, but the music made the whole thing feel like a highly disturbing European horror film.

  • Wait....1 guy made all this??? And it uses no power or what!?!?! Freakin AWESOME!

  • If the world as we know it is ever destroyed in a cataclysmic event, and there are a few shreds of humanity left to walk the earth, they will look at the ruins of our cities and say "This is the remains of a great civilization that once was." And then they will find one of these and they will ask themselves "What great purpose did these strange beasts have? Why did our ancestors build them? Why are they here?" And the answer will be"Because some Dutch guy named Theo Jansen wanted to build them."

  • @AppleaLJ Epic!

  • I am thoroughly creeped out.

  • it's so scary as impressive! unbelievable!

  • ...lui sì che ha osservato la natura... e forse le ha rubato qualche segreto...

  • That is both incredibly fascinating and.......somewhat terrifying. I can't help but look in awe at these things. The way that was is essentially plastic moves in such a lifelike matter is pretty unnerving.

  • What I really enjoy about these mechanisms is that they're entirely wind powered. No batteries, no motors, indefinitely moving mechanical "organisms." Really, really cool.

  • placed into my playlist of Theo Jansen, thanks

  • That's about the most beautiful thing I've seen in my life :')

  • That's about the most beautiful thing I've seen in my life :')

  • i believe that your artwork has a unique fascination like a special something from other planet.

your artwork is in the wind same as was artwork of the Van Vogh by the feeling of the your colors

  • @kidmongo1 i dont agree so strongly butyes ive seen other vids nad its slightly different when insted of peaceful music youve got 100s of rattling rivets - that said they are still amazing machines

  • CRACKED!!!

  • ooooo, creepy. in a cool way.

  • ...the answer my friend...

  • This man Theo Jansen is 21 Century Leonardo Da Vinci, indeed !

  • Wow!

  • makes you wonder why youtube doesn't have an art category

  • wow im humbled to see this

  • A phenomenal clip. The combination of the fascinating artwork and the -indeed painfully sweet- music by Glass just works so well! Thanks for sharing.

  • amazing mind.

  • Muchas gracias Julian por compartir tan bello registro. Un saludo cordial,

  • I love your work, theo. It's amazing...

  • Kool Theo's sculptures powered by the wind!!

  • imagine these things in a hurrucane

    theyd be running like hell

    jks

  • Or blown away

  • can anyone tell me what is the music in the background? is so painfully sweet

  • philp glass yoyo ma

  • amazing!

  • This art has been used in BMW south-africa`s TV commercial in 2006.

  • How do thay turn?

  • most likely, not at all... if the wind blows the other way they just walk back, but no curves or turns... yet...

  • What piece of music is this?

  • It's called "Definition" by Philip Glass and Yo-Yo Ma. You can find it on iTunes. It's a lovely piece. :-)

  • this guy is unbelievably awesome!!

  • These are so intricate and beautiful! The fact that they are solely powered by a breeze just makes them all the more breathtaking. If I had a huge beach to myself I'd totally set them loose and just watch them.

  • so beuituful.

if in mars theres no wind.

realease em in antactica with cams.

  • they'd fall over, too many bumps, ive been doing tests with small scale models, they arent good at climbing ledges, steps, or even so much as a moderate hill

  • I'd be pretty terrified if I got up from a relaxing rest on the beach to see these things coming after me.

  • I'll say.

  • Frankly, I think they're beautiful, and not scary at all. The melancholy northern coast adds a lot to the image.

  • He should release these into antartica and see what they do.

  • or mars? how about that???

  • I think some scientists might feel that would impede on their research of the planet. Maybe someday once we've inhabited it.

  • the film footage reminds me of that of Wilber and Orville Wright...wonder if he's was conscious that there are amazing similarities. I, too, think he's onto something big...

  • He's an Dutch artist and he's great :)

  • LOL

these things scarre the shit out of me

  • Now this is art, and of a high caliber too. Precision, science, skill, effort, creativity- Theo Jansen is a genius.

  • -dies-

  • YES!

    THE PROMISED DAY HAS COME!!!

  • LMAO XDDD!

  • One day, he will program those things to fucking kill. I will be glad to see that day, even if I am among the first to die.

  • this fella's work leaves me thinking he's onto something big, like he's about to make a major scientific discovery if he keeps at it

    fantastic stuff!

  • i was just waiting at :45 when he had a bunch going, for a big gust to come along and have them all just giver and take off on him!

  • scary how much these remind me of bacterium and other microscopic life...

  • What is this Music? Sounds Great...

  • lol you should pay more attention to things before you ask a question...the video tells you at the end what the music is.

  • Got no time. Life is short. After my comment i've watched the whole video and encountered this embarrassing situation. That's so stupid. I'm Sorry.

  • no worries dude...I was just teasing ya. I'm sure I've done stuff like that before too so it's ok, you are forgiven. :)

  • well i have not forgiven Eimeer

Ive tried and tried but it just follows me around like a dark mysterious character destroying shadow

what you did was UNFORGIVABLE !! and i CURSE YOU !! [throws a bizzare twisted shaped curse shape in Eimeers general direction]

  • So great!!!!!

  • that would be intense if you seen one of those things walking down the beach

  • wow!! best kind of art!

  • I would like to see a "glider gun" (See: Conway's Life) that builds walkers with a hopper of parts and wind power

  • Stunning.

  • Very interesting!

  • Wow, those must be gigantic rubber bands...

  • engage!

  • Un capo e la mecánica!!!!!!!!. Increible!!!!

  • yeah i wanna know about PASSENGERS... right?

  • nice choice of music.

  • exactly so.

  • AWESOME! TOTALLY AWESOME!

  • i wonder how mu ch power that contraption has.. like if it were to carry a carriage.

  • omg this is beautiful

  • this is incredible!!!!

    =S

  • y solo se mueven con el viento XD

En artfutura dejo a todos locos.

  • te imaginas ir caminando y encontrarte con una d esas!

    ooH

    Alucinante

  • The man's a god.

  • You think that bar linkage is complicated and amazing? Just look down at your legs and then ask yourself who God really is.

  • What does 'God' have to do with my legs?

  • The question is what do you believe he had to do with them? I wont try to convince on any one belief, but I look at mine and see more than a smart hunk of meat guided by a convenient natural process.

  • god is too easy.

  • Impresionante... eso me podrá hacer la colada, planchar y todas esas cosas?? digo yo.... le soplas un poco y si te curras un mecanismo te friega los platos :P
