Man, I wanted to sleep tonight. Now, instead of sheep, I will be counting the number of yellow legs on that monstrosity as it slowly walks towards my house.
@EpicFishFingers You will not believe this, but they "feel" the water with a special mechanism (something to do with, bottles, hoses and void) and change direction when they touch it.
Now all he has to do is make one of these non-euclidean, angular beings from an alternate Earth out of bones. ;-) Just kidding; they look like alien tumbleweeds mixed with Pre-cambrian life-forms.
Holy christ that could be deadly. If this guy went crazy he could put small sharp blades on/in the one at 1:00 along with some blades on the sides like a chariot to cut people on the sides and run it through a busy beach, killing hundreds and hundreds.
If the world as we know it is ever destroyed in a cataclysmic event, and there are a few shreds of humanity left to walk the earth, they will look at the ruins of our cities and say "This is the remains of a great civilization that once was." And then they will find one of these and they will ask themselves "What great purpose did these strange beasts have? Why did our ancestors build them? Why are they here?" And the answer will be"Because some Dutch guy named Theo Jansen wanted to build them."
That is both incredibly fascinating and.......somewhat terrifying. I can't help but look in awe at these things. The way that was is essentially plastic moves in such a lifelike matter is pretty unnerving.
What I really enjoy about these mechanisms is that they're entirely wind powered. No batteries, no motors, indefinitely moving mechanical "organisms." Really, really cool.
@kidmongo1 i dont agree so strongly butyes ive seen other vids nad its slightly different when insted of peaceful music youve got 100s of rattling rivets - that said they are still amazing machines
These are so intricate and beautiful! The fact that they are solely powered by a breeze just makes them all the more breathtaking. If I had a huge beach to myself I'd totally set them loose and just watch them.
they'd fall over, too many bumps, ive been doing tests with small scale models, they arent good at climbing ledges, steps, or even so much as a moderate hill
the film footage reminds me of that of Wilber and Orville Wright...wonder if he's was conscious that there are amazing similarities. I, too, think he's onto something big...
