This concert he had a cold, you can hear it in his voice. I like quite a few songs he did with the new band, but do agree that his older songs sound different and not what I am used too. I think I do prefer Max's drumming, it is more complimentary and not so dominant. I think resistance also comes from the fact that the band's personalities are so different from the E Street Band. I prefer to watch the E Street Band performing with Bruce, more chemistry etc that comes from a shared history.
@Maree469 I think in a parallel universe if this band was the one he played with for 25 years and the only one we knew and then he swapped to the E Street Band, we would all be saying the same thing, "Don't like this band, they don't sound right".
Dave Marsh is an idiot.... We didn't take to the band because it wasn't the E street band...It's not Clarence, Stevie, Max,Gary, Danny, Nils, Roy, Patty...Sorry that sax break was lame compared to Clarence..and not because she's a woman..You can't replace the history with studio musicians...
@joedodge1 I wasn't around at the time so I can't say if Dave Marsh was right or not. He wrote that most Bruce fans would not be racist in their daily lives' but that they were shocked that Bruce was playing with a black 'soul' band! The overwhelming feeling from that time is that the band were just dreadful, that MTV Unplugged DVD is woeful excluding the performances of Lucky Town, If I Should Fall Behind, My Beautiful Reward and The Big Muddy. I've watched it once since I bought it.
Why sack the greatest backing band in rock history to play with these clowns!? I was quite disturbed though that Dave Marsh thought that a lot of Bruce's American fans didn't take to the new band because they were mainly black. I find that hard to believe.
@Eeza07 It was certainly his worst period creatively without The E Street Band, he never produced a outstanding album in the 90's, Human Touch is just awful excluding the title track but Lucky Town is underrated.
Thanks for posting this great Bruce Springsteen classic. The sheet music for Roy Bittan's wonderful piano part on "Born To Run" can be found at manymidi.com/sheetmusic.htm - a note-for-note transcription.
Interesting. I was under the impression he didn't play this much during the early 90s, when the E Street Band was in hiatus. All due respect to Crystal and her sax solo but she's no Clarence Clemons.
@libertyordeaf They played it every night lol yeah no sax didn't stop Badlands, prove it, trapped, because the night, hungry heart, etc making appearences probably because of the weakness of th ehuman ouch material
Did she play that solo on an alto sax? Blasphemy.
