@PanosKates95 yeah, long may they stay! DEAD. this is a wonderful song, dont spoil it and make it sound like its patriotic, its a gypsy song. watch 'we the living' a perfect example of this song in a Marxist society, see if you can spot it.
Bravo!!!!!! Full of pain and strength and the deep yearning for that dark-eyed woman's soul we are all looking for. Dear God send her to me and yet keep her away.
I can't speak russian yet. I'm brasilian. I'm currently studying it. But I can notice some differences between a song sang by another singer and the same one sang by Ivan Rebroff. An example is the music Kalinka Malinka, where he sings something different (or my hearing to the language it's not quite synchronized). Does he know the language and is just abusing of his incredable talent or he is indeed abusing of his talent but doesn't know russian?
@peregrinocinzento well, he definitely knows russian, i've noticed he pronounces 'zh' (ж) in a special manner though. But still, it must be just an individual thing.
@dissolveANDcollapse Then it must be me. For instance, in the begining when he sings slowly, I hear something like "Очи чёрмоe" (ochi chiormaie) but when the music goes fast, it's the original Очи чёрные. And you know, russian is a very "complete" language. Portuguese too. But some sounds in russian has no equivalent in portuguese. For instance, I can't understand how russians, in english, has a "v" sounding like "u", but there's a "v" in russian! I probably can't hear the "v" correctly yet.
@peregrinocinzento He knows Russian very well but still have little accent. You can hear it when he sing Ю, Я, Ё. He sort of splitting them into two sounds each.
In Russian letter 'У' or 'у' sounds like Latin 'U' and letter 'В' or 'в' sounds like Latin 'V'.
@Gjalpinulva You're right. I can notice a little accent. But the question about the "v" still bother me. Almost all russians I know pronounce, for instance, "Darth Vader" like "Darth Uader". It's not a "v", but not an "u" either. TV isn't a good source of cultural information, because they overestimate the stereotype, but Chekov (in Star Trek) exaggerates the peculiarity of the pronunciation of "v" in words like "was", "vessel", etc. So I think russian "v" it's not exactly like a latin "v".
@peregrinocinzento In academic Russian 'v' is exactly same as Latin 'v'. The problem is the Russia is very big and populated by different minor ethnic groups which have their little differences in pronunciation. Even ethnic Russians themselves have small variations in sounds from one area to another.
@Gjalpinulva Oh, great! Everything makes sense now. Hahaha! I was having some troubles in regulate this "new" "v", but now is ok. Haha! I don't know if this is part of the accent too, but when "В" (v) works as the preposition "in", its pronounciation is quite soft. For instance, in the song Kalinka: "В саду ягода малинка, малинка моя!". If I don't pay attention to it, I almost can't hear the "В". Is that part of an accent or part of the language? Sorry for bother you with those questions.
@peregrinocinzento It happens when you talk or sing very fast. Similar to American "Hold 'em" while normally it should be "Hold them". In your example the singing is very fast.
This is a beautiful song and Ivan Rebroff sings it very passionately. I don’t speak Russian, however, I wonder if this “chernye” is correct. Isn’t it “chornye” pls?
Do you all know that's there is a Sundanese (one of Indonesian ethnic) version of this songs?this been popularized in the 50's as a culture exchange....the title is Panon Hideung (black eyes in the Sundanese)
haha, i was in serbia and i was speaking in russian, and in russian "na prava" means "to the right", but in serbian it means "straight". lol! i love serbia
Charna doesn't mean black in russian. not even close. your name doesn't have any equivalent in russian language, however, it fits most closely to ukranian( not exactly) which can only mean 'enchanting'.
lol, thanks for the descritption... or we can all just go to fking wikipedia and read the first paragraph of the "Ivan Rebroff" article. Learn to paraphrase damn you!

For example, according to the Guinness World Records:
-The widest vocal range of any human is 10 octaves ranging from G/G#-5 to G/G#5 (0.7973 Hz - 807.3 Hz), achieved by Tim Storms (USA) at Citywalk Studios in Branson, Missouri, USA, on 1 August 2008.
-Georgia Brown (Brazil), has a vocal range of eight octaves, extending from G2 to G10, as verified at Aqui Jazz Atelier Music School in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on 18 August 2004.
@akvarog Some people don't realize... But It's very old technic, like this Tim Storms, that guys from Tuva did that very long ago... I don't know how to explain because I'm not musician.. But here if you wanna see it:
@akvarog It is quite unbelivable that human voice could be lower than 1 Hz, not to mention that the band of human hearing is somewhat between 20Hz 20Khz
@akvarog 0.79 Hz is not a real sound. It is a subsonic pressure wave with a period of more than one second. To actually move air that way, you would need a huge object to act as a transducer; the vocal tract simply won't do that. Strictly speaking, if you make a series of clicks with your throat at 0.79 Hz, the spectral decomposition of the sound will have a small component of 0.79 Hz, with little energy. Anyone can make slow clicks. Hey, I just managed 0.2 Hz. This is a bogus record.
@AGreekMarcoPolo1966 It is 100% true. Rebroff had the world record. Four and a half octaves. The explaination would be that Rebroff was truly extraordinary.
I know what four and a half octaves mean, it's impressive.
@mILOS88pND Before (2) Two days I watched the Video: /watch?v=gKfLinnXtjM&feature=BF&list=QL&index=8 In 01:46-(02:35) to end! He have not got A HUMAN VOICE BUT AN ANGELIC VOICE! BELIEVE ME!

He (Ivan Rebroff) became a citizen of Greece and lived on Greek islands of Skopelos in the Sporades.
Άντε βγάλε συμπέρασμα!

2) Τό Αντίθετο! Βάζουν όλη τήν Δύναμη τής Φωνής τους, αλλά ακούγονται ΑΓΡΙΑ.

You (akvarog) have written:
...with an Extraordinary vocal range of Four and a Half Octaves...
ARE YOU SURE??? DO YOU KNOW WHAT MEANS THAT???
THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE!!!
All humans have Vocal Range of Two Octaves (and (1) One or (2) Two Tones more (?) )! ) ( sol...Sol...SOL).
ARE YOU SURE???
Perhaps you mean (3) Three and a Half Octaves or (2) Two and a Half Octaves.
PLEASE EXPLAIN !!!
INCREDIBILY AUDITU !!! ( Roman-Latin).
AGreekMarcoPolo1966 1 year ago
@AGreekMarcoPolo1966
I'm not sure about anything. :)

You're right. This man was incredible. And about agreekmarcopolo1966, listen Yma Sumac. She was incredible too !!
magcetube 1 year ago
@akvarog 0.79 Hz is not a real sound. It is a subsonic pressure wave with a period of more than one second. To actually move air that way, you would need a huge object to act as a transducer; the vocal tract simply won't do that. Strictly speaking, if you make a series of clicks with your throat at 0.79 Hz, the spectral decomposition of the sound will have a small component of 0.79 Hz, with little energy. Anyone can make slow clicks. Hey, I just managed 0.2 Hz. This is a bogus record.

@KazKylheku
I agree. Tim Storms record is bogus. Being a bass, I can "click" down in that range too, but it's not singing.
CaptainContraBass 11 months ago
@KazKylheku
Even IF you scrap the 0.79Hz, it's still unbelievable.

@KazKylheku you're an asshole

@AGreekMarcoPolo1966 It is 100% true. Rebroff had the world record. Four and a half octaves. The explaination would be that Rebroff was truly extraordinary.
I know what four and a half octaves mean, it's impressive.

@mILOS88pND In Greece we do not know Ivan Rebroff!
I watched this Video before 1-2 Months (1-2times only), BUT I Found Him before 3-4 days.
I have understood that:
We (every country) think wrong! If we know one Great Singer we believe that:
All the Universe know Him or Her! BUT THIS IS NOT RIGHT!
We (Greek) have many Goog Singers and we believe that all Universe know Them! And you believe the same thing!
Thanks to You Tube we (sall) find many People and many Great Singers around the World!

@AGreekMarcoPolo1966 In fact, this piece have a range of "only" 2 octaves.
But listen to "Vietsherny zvon" (evenig bells in English)
There, he sings with a scale of 4 octaves!!!!!!
AlexandreJdB 1 year ago
@AGreekMarcoPolo1966 It is very possible to have a range of four octaves. In fact, he sings with that exact range in Vietsherny Zvon.

@AGreekMarcoPolo1966 была такая перуанская певица Има Сумак - диапазон больше 4-х октав. Пела на грани слышания человеческим ухом. Поинтересуйтесь...

@AGreekMarcoPolo1966 Nope, possible or not, he was indeed famous for the four and a half octaves range! I picked it up when I watched his biography.
