How the fuck did you get that startup time though? Did you find a way to remove all the bloatware, or did you just make this in Visual Basic? That can be done... but getting Windows XP in less than a minute can be done too... Well, either way, that is pretty cool. How big is the hard drive?
@SqeakyGoldfish As standard there isn't any bloat ware on the computer. Bloat ware is added by 3rd party vendors such as HP or Dell. It's a problem because people get a worse impression of windows when it comes with what is perceived to be annoying crap on it. As for this PC, I have to say that it was pretty much this fast from the word go. I have thought about it and all I can assume is that all of the drivers are perfect and everything works well.
@wehatemacs I also think that with it being a pretty clean install helps a lot. I couldn't tell you for sure and this computer no longer exists. I just thought it was cool, And yeah, I think its a pretty small HDD, like 20GB or something. IDE. just think shit PC and you'll be able to guess at its spec.
@SqeakyGoldfish The hard drive was 30GB I think, and I did nothing, that is the result of good drivers and no bundleware. Clean windows install with a couple of programs installed, the system was installed as an SNMP monitoring solution and definitely isn't made in visual basic. There are a couple of tweaks I didn't use on this that I know to improve XP performance & boot time if you really want to know them, but it's not really important now that we have windows 7.
@wehatemacs I had an XP machine that booted in 37 seconds...all I EVER used in XP was SP1...never EVER a virus. The ONLY time it ever crashed was one time I installed SP2 on it and wanted to use ZA for SP1, because the later versions of ZA are just a fool's paradise, they don't block ZA itself at all. And ZA calls home all day. ZA, after SP1 also lets all of MS office call home all day.
Boot speed is an important spec because it is a reflection of how light weight and efficient your OS is. It is a reflection of how many overheads are being used in the OS. If it is a shit spec then why does PC mag, popular mechanics, and many others talk about it so much? It is important.

Case mods, and I'm not necessarily talking about neon lights and stuff, but there are some pretty awesome cases and monitors and peripherals for PCs. Lian Li make awesome cases, MS make great keyboards and Samsung make great monitors. That's the great thing about PCs, they are as nice or as shit as you want them to be. With whatever brand you want.
Yeah some people wouldn't care if they had a cardboard box as their case (i've seen one...) I personally wouldn't want a cardboard box, but don't wanna spend 1k on a case, a cheap box that looks good is good enough for me. but onto Mac cases... all the same (not comparing old to new but within its own time) and todays macs... looks like its built out of one big lego block.
@ibainesy today's macs are built for flamers...whenever I see a mac I want to run it over with a car. I did that with the second mac I had. I was editing photos and it crashed for the tenth time in one day, and I fucking calmly unloaded all my pics. Calmly unplugged it. Calmly threw it into the road. Then calmly ran it over fifteen times...back and forth...and then I calmly placed all the pieces into a box and sent it to Apple.
Apple haters need to look at what their precious PCs would look like without the contributions of Apple. Little things like the mouse, and a graphic user interface were just two things innovated by Apple. Without Apple innovation flip phones would still be in most everybody's pockets. Also cds would be the primary form of music distribution and portable music would be a portable cd player. It is paradoxical that the people that benefit from Apple innovation are always criticizing Apple.

Apple was the first company to bring the mouse out of obscurity, and the first widely used GUI -look it up on your crappy crt.
@rdownard Ok, where to start. Google Android has actually been around longer, that has a store. Windows Mobile isn't particularly clunky. I have had a windows mobile before I was in business. Apple made a brand and style that people were drawn to and topped it off with very intrusive marketing so stupid drones flocked to buy a locked down chunk of shit that got upgraded very shortly after the first release so people had to go buy the phones again to get 3G. Not very nice of apple really.

More reliable, more stable, less virus prone, faster and I could go on and on. I do have to give it to WIndows 7, it is pretty good. Every other OS that Windows has produced took years before they were close to bug free, then they release a new unstable buggy OS. Keep using inferior products though. Microsoft will perpetually be trying to keep up with Apple.

I don't get why Macs or PCs feel like they have to prove they are better than the other. Personally I have a Mac and I like it fine, but honestly PCs and Macs are really so different it's hard to compare them. Macs go for the shiny look-good kinda thing while PCs go with the "It's really easy to do anything" thing. I don't really have a preference but all I know is that there are probably 10 times more viruses for PCs than there are for Macs so I'm happy with my Mac Mini.

I haven't had a virus in years and I don't even run a virus scanner, I install one intermittently, scan, then uninstall. I also run no form of firewall and have never been hacked. isn't that good? there is more than firefox, its a network monitoring system, its using castle Rock SNMPc and a few other monitoring apps, BORING! It doesn't like running more than a couple of apps at a time of course, but I'll be upgrading to 256mb of RAM (WOAH!) which should make it a bit better but its not too bad, can't say I'd prefer it to my PC but I was impressed at the startup

Yeah, My zune never froze, until last month, when I dropped it. I've had it for a year, and I've had my iPod for like 2 weeks, and it's frozen like 5 times. I've had my Xbox for 2 years, and it still hasn't died. My Xp here i've had for.... 4 years.

I also love the way that MAC users make it out they can do everything without windows and then they go and install windows on their MAC machines.... So basically apple has to optimise its system to run windows anyway, explain that.
I love seeing fail attempts from MAC users to down windows OS. When will you learn that MAC is a fail, they crash as much as PC does, just as slow as PC, but cost 3 times the price. and dont go on how nice they look, a computer is not a fashion statement!

Case mods, and I'm not necessarily talking about neon lights and stuff, but there are some pretty awesome cases and monitors and peripherals for PCs. Lian Li make awesome cases, MS make great keyboards and Samsung make great monitors. That's the great thing about PCs, they are as nice or as shit as you want them to be. With whatever brand you want.

I personally wouldn't want a cardboard box, but don't wanna spend 1k on a case, a cheap box that looks good is good enough for me. but onto Mac cases... all the same (not comparing old to new but within its own time) and todays macs... looks like its built out of one big lego block.

I was editing photos and it crashed for the tenth time in one day, and I fucking calmly unloaded all my pics. Calmly unplugged it. Calmly threw it into the road. Then calmly ran it over fifteen times...back and forth...and then I calmly placed all the pieces into a box and sent it to Apple.

Apple haters need to look at what their precious PCs would look like without the contributions of Apple. Little things like the mouse, and a graphic user interface were just two things innovated by Apple. Without Apple innovation flip phones would still be in most everybody's pockets. Also cds would be the primary form of music distribution and portable music would be a portable cd player. It is paradoxical that the people that benefit from Apple innovation are always criticizing Apple.

Flip phones aren't the only other type of phone and apple came last when it comes to smart phones. Apple also didn't invent memory sticks or mp3 players. Also before the iPhone smart phones were clunky, with watered-down internet browsers, no real app store, and were not used except by business people and a small population of non-business people. Apple INNOVATED and made a smartphone that people swarmed to. In 4 years became the 2nd biggest smartphone provider. Apple was the first company to bring the mouse out of obscurity, and the first widely used GUI -look it up on your crappy crt.

@rdownard Ok, where to start. Google Android has actually been around longer, that has a store. Windows Mobile isn't particularly clunky. I have had a windows mobile before I was in business. Apple made a brand and style that people were drawn to and topped it off with very intrusive marketing so stupid drones flocked to buy a locked down chunk of shit that got upgraded very shortly after the first release so people had to go buy the phones again to get 3G. Not very nice of apple really.

More reliable, more stable, less virus prone, faster and I could go on and on. I do have to give it to WIndows 7, it is pretty good. Every other OS that Windows has produced took years before they were close to bug free, then they release a new unstable buggy OS. Keep using inferior products though. Microsoft will perpetually be trying to keep up with Apple.

windows>run>type MSCONFIG go to the startup tab, clear what you don't want, go to the services tab, tick "Hide Microsoft services" remove what you don't want, DONE!
If your brother hasn't already done that then give it a go. (but watch out not to remove vital services)

I don't get why Macs or PCs feel like they have to prove they are better than the other. Personally I have a Mac and I like it fine, but honestly PCs and Macs are really so different it's hard to compare them. Macs go for the shiny look-good kinda thing while PCs go with the "It's really easy to do anything" thing. I don't really have a preference but all I know is that there are probably 10 times more viruses for PCs than there are for Macs so I'm happy with my Mac Mini.

and when i just got my computer, and installed 2 or 3 apps the 1st day
it loaded up fully in about 15-20 seconds as well
but now it takes a minute or so, only due to messengers, but the 17 applications running don't slow it down =P

there is more than firefox, its a network monitoring system, its using castle Rock SNMPc and a few other monitoring apps, BORING! It doesn't like running more than a couple of apps at a time of course, but I'll be upgrading to 256mb of RAM (WOAH!) which should make it a bit better but its not too bad, can't say I'd prefer it to my PC but I was impressed at the startup

Yeah, My zune never froze, until last month, when I dropped it. I've had it for a year, and I've had my iPod for like 2 weeks, and it's frozen like 5 times. I've had my Xbox for 2 years, and it still hasn't died. My Xp here i've had for.... 4 years.
Yeah, Apple is stupid. You get more for your money with Microsoft.
