The Sweet was the pinnacle of "cool" in the mid 70s. I used to congregate with my buddies in the school parking lot to snort speed and drink cheap booze during those times. What was always on the 8-Track was the Sweet. Desolation Blvd is probably the best album made in the 1970s. Too bad about Brian and Mick. Why doesn't Andy play with Steve these days? I'd love to see a reunion if only half the band!
Das ist schon schwierig dieser Stimme zuzuhören wenn man die phantastische Stimme von Brian Connolly im Ohr hat.Manche Dinge sollte man besser ruhen lassen bevor man sich überschätzt. Beate
ich wuerde sagen das liegt zum einen daran dass es brians song ist und brians stimme erfordert, aber auch daran dass es generell bessere saenger gibt. meiner meinung nach singt pete lincoln, der im moment leadsaenger ist, viel besser.
It's bitter but sad, Sweet died with Brian and Mick.
I did grow up with their music and when I hear/see this it hurts :(
If Andy has just sailed to any water (like his mate Richie Blacmore did) he would be more respected. He is damn good guitar player! Sweet memo lives in the records and hearts of fans. Cheers all
I think that A.S. Sweet does a good job playing Sweet hits. After all, Andy WAS the lead guitarist! It's a shame that he and Steve are so far apart. After Brian passed, they continued on until Steve moved to the US, right? Then Mick was with Andy for awhile, but Steve declined the invite to go back. So really it started as 1/2 Sweet and COULD have been 3/4. It's not like Andy said the heck with y'all and struck out on his own. Still the music is good; just different. =)
I think so. Although I wouldn't go so far as to say anyone is a 'f%$#@ snob' for having a diff opinion. Takes a lot for them to go out, with the legacy that's left behind.
I agree, and they were so undestimated. They have an amazing history. And times change but the music lives. I've said before that it takes a lot for these great old bands to go out, but in my opinion Sweet paid their dues with an unforgiving public 30 years ago. Andy Scott has put together such a great group of guys. I know Brian & Mick are smiling down from heaven.
The band is great. I love The Sweet. I think only fucking snobs underestimate this fabulous group. They actually were one of the first glam rock bands.
Besides, the fans seem happy. I think that's who they do it for anyway. Also, the group Asia- even though they are reuniting for a tour of their original members (easy enough, they are all still alive!)for many years Geoff Downes kept going as the sole original member, with a lot of musicians who were great and had been in other bands, but not a lot of people had heard of. They did well, considering. I admire any of these guys who can keep it going for the fans. Long live Sweet!
Well, of course it doesn't sound the same. Brian & Mick gone, Steve doing his own thing. But they are out there doing their best to carry on the name. They are no worse than a lot of those other old guys from the 70s (and in a lot of ways better!) hoofing it out there. Give 'em a break!
I can't, Tigerlily. Can't give 'em a break. If McCartney decided to tour as the Beatles--John and George are dead, and Ringo's elsewhere--would you say Give him a break, he can call himself the Beatles? I sure wouldn't. This isn't Sweet...and somewhere, listening to this dreck, Brian's spinning in his grave.
Touche, friend. You make a good point I can't argue with. I guess what I'm really saying is that I admire Andy Scott still, as a guitarist and his efforts. Bruce Bisland, Steve Grant and Peter Lincoln (although thats Tony O'hora up there in this one) I just happen to think are great musicians. Of course they play smaller venues and have a smaller fan base. Oh well, we agree to disagree!!
lol, I don't know if Brian is spinning in his grave though, he was cremated and his daughters spread his ashes out on the water. But seriously, if you are even a little curious check out sweetlifedk.com, its a fansite for the new/old sweet the most complete one I've seen. peace out
Good point: Tough to spin when you're ashes. I didn't know he'd been cremated; I thought he was at least nominally a Catholic. Thanks for the website, BTW; I'll check it out and bookmark it now. :-]
He was, and I hope it brought him peace in the end, God knows he needed it. And I do agree with your comment that the name is alive in the content here on youtube. If nothing else, he and Mick are hopefully getting a jolly laugh at the big deal we make over them! RIP guys-you are never forgotten, no matter what!
The Sweet name IS alive as long as there are those of us who're here on YouTube watching their videos and loving the music. Do we need to see 1/4 of the band trying to breathe new life into songs that sound a lot more alive when the original band is singing them?

Tony O'Hora is such a phenomenal vocalist...
Why the hell did he had to leave Praying Mantis?!
With him, Bisland and Dennis Stratton, Mantis were at their top...

agree

Well, to be honest, now that I have bought "A Cry for a New World" I reckon Colin Peel's singing even overtakes that of Tony.
But it does not change the fact, that the most successful album Mantis have done since 1990 is "Nowhere to Hide".

Not too shabby.

That's guitarist Andy Scott and his band playing old Sweet songs. Mick and Brian are sorely missed.
