    man, i strongly encourage you to give HIT an honest and fair trial yourself. I used to have the same feeling towards it, but now that i train HIT, my gains are consistent, i have alot more fun training, and i have my life back!

    im not "telling" you to "do" anything, im just suggesting it as ameans to better your progress. i think you will be pleasantly suprised mate. But dont take my word for it, or anybody elses for that matter, try it yourself

  • @boddobro Fair enough. Thanks for your thoughtful reply. I have tried superslow in the past, which is kind of HIT, the way Ken Hutchins taught it. I found that was ok, but I lost weight doing it and it was hard as buggery. You are right, I shouldn't dismiss HIt without giving it a proper try. Can you recommend any good resources on HIT, any books or website to look at? Thanks again.

  • @xanthromera They don't exactly bring out the peak of the biceps, but they do target the outer head of the bicep more depending on how you do them and by targeting/growing the outer head more will improve your peak to a point, of course depending on your genetics. So his comment was actually correct to some extent.

  • @jprc25 The comment is a complete fallacy. Trainers from the 70's thought they could concentrate the stimulus to the peak of the muscle belly if they focused on the point of full contraction doing either a preacher or concentration curl. We now know it is not possible to control which motor units are firing. It's impossible to separate the development of the biceps to any significant extent. The shape of the bicep is 99% genetically predetermined.

    Avoid weider propaganda at all cost.

  • What is Boyer Coe doing? Didn't he learn from Mike Mentzer how strict form looks like? Barbell curls isn't the best Biceps Exercise, as there is no resistance in the top position. Best Bicep exercise ist chin ups with underhand grip.. Train Biceps twice a week? Maybe when you're on roids.

  • Mentzers physique, aside from a weak chest was far and away the best at the 80 olympia, and he didnt win purely because of the damage he would have done to the industry had this been so (its also worth mentioning the HUGE jeering that came from the crowd when his and Arnolds placings were announced, plus CBS who had filmed the event for broadcast promply scraped the footage declaring the contest a joke)

    There are reasons why people fail at HIT, and it isnt a fault with the program. Some people just dont have what it takes to give it 100%, some people dont rest enough, some people take liberties and rest too much, some people do too many exercises per workout, the list goes on and on

    HIT works if you work at it and dont make excuses - like most things in life

    i cannot talk for other people, but as for me, i followed it tho the letter and ate a healthy high calorie diet and was always well rested and although i did get stronger i didnt see much in the way of new muscle mass

  • You see this is something I dont get - pretty much everyone Ive spoken to who said HIT didnt work admitted that they got stronger but didnt get bigger - so why did you quit?! Couldnt you see that if you were growing stronger, then it was working?

    Think about it - say you can only bench 200lbs, and after a year of slowly getting stronger on HIT you can now bench 400lbs, do you really think you wouldnt have grown at all during that year?

  • obiousely u would grow but it doesnt mean u would grow to ur full potential. just because ur getting stronger doesnt mean ur muscles r hypertrophying

  • And how did you figure that out?

    Do you know why you get stronger? Its because your existing muscle fibres will thicken when subjected to heavy lifting. When they reach their maximum potential, your body will start to create new fibres (as long as you rest enough to let this happen) and the process starts again, thats why you grow stronger before you get bigger.

    By doing more volume you can get more fluid storage in your muscles to make them LOOK bigger, but is that what you really want?

  • yes thats true but fluid storage in the muscle is a good thing. when ur muscles swell with blood and water they get more of the nutrients they need to grow and also the fascia stretches out allowing for more muscle growth

  • Fluid storage in the muscle is only beneficial in that it allows muscles to work for longer periods - this is why so many trainers appear to lose size when they switch to HIT.

    Dont be fooled by the muscle mags quoting psuedo-science about nutrient absorbtion and fascia stretching either. If you work your muscles hard enough your body will take care of them nutrient wise, and increased muscle growth will stretch the fascia perfectly well - and you'll look harder as a result

  • u seem very knowledgeable and i was to quick to call insult u in my first comment so for that i apologize.

    i just think that we as bodybuilders should respect each other no matter what training program an individual uses. we all know how hard it is to diet and train consistently for years and we shouldnt be bashing each other. and yes there are some, actually several lifters who train like pussies. however just because ur not using a certain training philosophy doesnt mean ur not training

  • intensely or earnestly. i have tried several training programs. HIT, MAX-OT, doggcrapp and so on. and what i find works best for me is a moderate volume routine with about 3-4 failure sets for larger muscle groups and 2-3 failure sets for smaller muscle groups. for example, for chest ill pick four exercises and do three sets. how ever only the last set of each exercise is taken to complete failure or beyond. all other sets r stopped a couple reps short of failure.

  • and i keep getting stronger on my major compound lifts such as bench presses and squats. so it seems to be working

    I dont really have a problem with people who do multiple sets, just as long as they realise that its the intensity of the workout rather than duration which causes muscle growth.

    Wyoure still fairly new to lifting pretty much any program will make you grow, since youre exposing yourself to a level of stress which day to day life doesnt provide you with. Just remember that as time passes and you get stronger...cont

  • cont...you will need to start cutting back on the volume if you want to keep lifting progressively heavier weights. You dont have to switch over to HIT right now, but trust me when you come to a plateau in your training and cant get any stronger, try removing a set or lowering the rep range a little - I promise youll start progressing again

  • And that is merely the Dual Factor Theory at work. Doesn't mean you should stay on low volume forever.

  • You don't HAVE to stay on low volume no - you just stay on low volume when you want more strength and bigger muscles :-)

  • i use ONE set of Squat, ONE set of dip and ONE set of pull-up. i lift every 10th or 11th day and IT WORKS!. years ago i used to follow the gay bodybuilding mags and wasted years of my life believing that crap! you couldn't pay me to work out like these gay boys on steroids. plus i want to take full credit for my progress and not "cheat" like these losers! do it naturaly. check out BRAWN 1991

    I dont rate BRAWN as highly as Mentzers works, but pretty much anything which keeps it brief and basic is going to work for you.

    Thats how the pre-steroid bodybuilders worked out and they developed phenomenal physiques - of course very few of them ever got past 200lbs lean but then the vast majority of people cant without steroids because human bodys are just not MEANT to be very big

  • I don't understand how boyer coe could even become a bodybuilder with his way of doing things. Everything I've seen of him training I always see him use too heavy weight and crappy form, also he does some rookie mistakes like holding his breath while performing an exercise or using his traps to cheat for almost all exercises when they start getting heavy.
