With same horsepower and hull weight, yeppers the v-drive will go a bit faster than a jet propelled boat. The jetboat will have more hull in contact with the surface of the water, even with a trim nozzel. However, try turning the wheel over hard at WOT and see which one kills ya! V-Drive boats are dangerous at high speeds, they're more prone to flipping.

If all you want is speed, get a vdrive. I love my old jet. Drenching the occasional pwc leach who gets too close or won't go away and blasting the arrogant tuber who likes to hang on too long and not take turns with everyone else on the boat is way more fun and entertainment than going 100mph to me. Personal preference.
