"Spring Celebration"? Celebrating what exactly? Obscene cruelty? There is nothing merely "distasteful" about this, and all of you that say that you've never seen this sort of thing...you are lying. For a fact, when inspectors show up at these events, many of the big trainers turn their trailers around and go back home! Chains, mustard, pressure shoeing...it happens in every TWH show stable, every single day and denying it dosen't excuse you from the guilt you bear.
How anyone can think that movement is beatiful is beyond me! It looks so artificial and unnatural. I'm so sick of humans torturing animals for the sake of a show ribbon! Hello, What a Horse Show. These interviews are certainly not a lie, and I'll be happy to talk with you about the process used 2 years ago to secure these interviews, and post this YouTube collection. @foshvideo lori they are very untrue and misleading. You are showing video of the 2008 Celebration and the lady is talking about spotted horse. What you are doing is very misleading and you know that matter of fact it crosses over from truth to lie and discredits the whole interview from start to finsih. My email is well known in this industry so send me an email will be no problem. After all you have sent them to me before.l
This interview is a lie from start to finish. This guy shows video of the Nationl Celebration and then the other voice talks about spotted horses. This is the type tactics used by fosh, h$u$ and other groups who say they want to save a horse. They most misleading information like this for people to see.
It should be taken down because it is based on a total lie.
@TheWhatAHorseShow I hate to be rude but you must understand the pain these horses go through. I know and are shore you know plenty of facts but this here sport has issues when they have such cruel weights! To think it's hard for farriers to put them up expect a horse to be picking up 2 to even 4! I know you dont see it but to and i have ridden one with no weights then camparing to a horse with! it's a big difference! I feel the pressure they use and stressed over worked mucles. Its painful.
The topic "Current Trends In Soring" Is very miss leading an d for thje most part is untrue. It is not right when peoople are allowed to make statements and mislead the public this way. The Tenneessee Walking Horse is the most cared for horse I know of. Take a picture and make and tell a 100% lie instead of facts is wrong from start to finish.
@TheWhatAHorseShow The horses are cared for obviously, the feet and legs have to be in order to make it through a inspection. The slightest cut or bruise could kep a horse out of the show ring costing the trainer a substancial payday. I believe that there are some inaccuracies in this series of videos but there is some truth to it as well. I think it would be a boost to the walking/racking horse crowd to show the how a horse is inspected, rules for shoeing etc.
@hs1541@TheWhatAHorseShow If you could get it done show a video of the week prior to a show for a competitive BUperformance horse. All of these things would help build a case for the care that these horses recieve and the changes that have been made by trainers to date. I think that we all have to agree that soring was rampant in the past. Why not show them how you have improved? Why not show them the truth? All breeds have distastefull training methods, some wose than others.
I have been involved in the Walking horse industry all my life. First off the usda also conducts inspections at shows for sore horses. Secondly anyone who has ever been in a walking barn knows how much care and time is put into the horses legs and feet. I guess ignorance is bliss....Please before you make a prejudged decision about these trainers and horses get the full story.
This woman says "I think", "Maybe", "I don't know" , "like", "I believe". She's not a very credible witness. And some of the words that appear on screen are different from what comes out of the woman's mouth. - That doesn't appear very credible of the video maker. A video liek this would never be allowed in a courtroom, so why make it in the first place?
god it just looks awful is there anything more graceful then a horse why on earth would anyone want to change that it looks clumsy and beyond uncomfortable for them it's just sad :(
I would like to know what is so attractive about the second horse shown in the video with the heavyset blonde female riding him? His back end looks so out of balance that I do not know how he will ever recover the capacity to walk normally! SHAME!
This reply is to her: A farrier in a small town in Illinois gave me the creeps so he wasnt allowed in our show barn to shoe. 1 month later he went to jail for killing a 6 yrs old mare in front of the helpless owner. I beat it so bad he took the eye out of the right socket and broke it's nose. Yes a horseshoer killed a horse he cut its feet too short and quicked it with a nail. Channel 10 news said it was the worst case of beating they had seen. BELIEVE what you want, but evil is out there.
knocked someone out for abusing their horse. I called 911 and animal control. But 20 years ago that didnt happen. The abusors would threaten the people that would rat them out. Now we have the law on our side. Argue about whether you think the video is real. I personally just want to stamp out abuse. Just cause you own it doesnt mean you can abuse it. Someone contacted me about some prior comment i made-
Protecting animals is tricky nowdays. People own their animals so they feel if they own it, it's theirs to do with as they please. The thing is you can do what you want as long at it is lawful and humane. If your horses are sore you get off it let it heal and seek veterinary care. However, the people they are referring too, did the opposite. Also would you be in this video and deal with the death threats because you admit you intentionally injure your horses for a show? Today, in 2011 I would
or does happen animals have suffered, been abused, and died because of being victimized while people like yourselves dispute IF it happened. The problem I see is the evidence is still in show rings that horses are being abused. Young people have been sheilded from it mostly because it happened before your birth. What doesnt make sense is noone here seems bothered that the horses are sore-regardless, and kerasene and gas was poured on them. Would you like to soak your toes in gas /kerosene???
If you are 20 yrs old or younger then alot of the things the video refers to happened before you were born or old enough to understand. I am sorry you have not seen these things first hand because you would realize that the question is not whether this is true or not, but why did it ever happen at all. You can say you've never seen it and that's probably true, however, your lack of expirience with horses shows when you say it can't happen. Unfortunately while you try to figure out whether it did
You dig around the interent and ask some old, old horsepeople and they will tell you.
There are news articles, etc, to read. Someone even wrote a book about it. Just cause you don't believe it and haven't seen it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Just like in our industry people cut the horses nerves, deaden their tails so they can't swat flies. You don't see it but they do it. Me? I'm the one riding the horse with its tail wagging happily behind him, shoes glued on-no nails, and softness.
I lost all desire to be around the "top" traininers in the Walker industry when I saw the stress, uncomfortable manner of moving, and early passing of horses that were shown to their death. You don't see as much because you are not traveling the nation, you are not on the "inside" like you think and I guarantee u alot of trainers don't want to go to jail so they changed. But the desire to win through the 80's-90's through 2000 was too much, they wnted to win the big money.
I train quarters, apps, and paints professionally. Before I worked top horses I saw things that would make you puke behind the barn. I watched the Big Lick horses be humanely euthanized for the extensive hoof damage. You have never been "let in", that's what trainer's refer to the hidden secret life of the horses being trained. I saw Walker's that could ONLY stand because of the pain from the 1980's-2000. We saw sore horses and we threatened with no future in the horse biz if we told.
@tosavealife1966 how many tendons have you had blow, or broken bones? Ever had to put those horses down from my experiance they go down sometimes never to stand again. Again these are worse case scenerios...
I know tons of trainers and been dealing with twh's all my life and this is the FIRST time EVER hearing anything about nailing cement blocks to a horses feet! Who ever believes that are complete dumbass's
@BigAgyrl2010 If you know 'tonnes' of trainers who do this you are a cruel, heartless person. Stop wasting my time with your idiodic, pointless and meaningless replies. Also, i think you should consider attending school again.
@ivyspanksahoe You really are stupid !! I said "IVE NEVER HERD OF ANYONE DOING THIS & I KNOW TONS OF TRAINERS"....Come on now its impossible to do that.....Take a hammer & nail and see how far you get thro a cement block
@BigAgyrl2010 You might as well give up.If they believe people cement horses feet with nails let them think that.I know its not the truth either but arguing with these people will get you nowhere. They think a 2000 pound horse cant tote a 2 pound pad just like a human cant tote a ankel braclet....Padded horses will never be banned no matter how hard people try!!!!!!!!!!!!! They can just get over it
@BigAgyrl2010 maybe if you watched the 'see it through my eyes' documentary about soring horses, you would hear the documenter state that 'cement blocks' are 'nailed' to horses hooves and therefore realise... your the only dumbass here.
@ivyspanksahoe Thats the stupidest thing ive ever heard....I mean 4real How is is possible to NAIL CEMENT blocks to a horses feet!! The pads on the horses are plastic with a half shoe or tire on the bottom!!
This is disgusting! All people involved in the act of 'soring horses' should have cement nailed into their feet with flesh eating chemicals pasted onto their legs! See how they feel then! These people are literally cooking the meat on these horses legs! FUCKING SICK BASTARDS!
@BigAgyrl2010 ... i dont know? you watch the videos on how those gross people sore cement to a horses foot, then YOU tell me. are you just trying to act stupid?
@ivyspanksahoe whats up with all these rude ass people on here? i was just asking your bitch ass a question... ive never herd of cementing nails to a horses feet ive herd of hammering them....people dont cement anything to padded horses feet...get ur facts str8
Why don't they remove the 'big lick' walker competition? There's really no reason for a horse to move that way. And if the reason is 'people like to watch it' then those people are whacked. This weird movement is not enjoyable to watch. It makes me flinch.
This a bunch of crap.the walking horse industry has made alot of changes it is better than what it once was. This crap should be taken off the web because it is not credible at all. This quy said he " turned a yearling down because he had to much animation" Is this guy a DQP or an owner. It sounds to me like he doesn't know anything~
omg, wow. this is retarded. all of these horses go threw inspections monthly. the big barns now have people that come in randomly and inspect them. now the "cooking" thing is stupid thats all stupid. this is all acting. learn what your speaking about before you talk. this sounds like a child talking.
@MajiksGurl224 Can you just /not see/ that these horses are lame? Also, who do you think pay for those "random inspections"? And who do you think do them? The present system using Designated Qualified Persons is idiotic if you actually think about it. People from inside the industry stand no financial benefit in changing the industry.
@SquashlingChaotic before you start saying names and calling people stupid, im involed in doing the checking and stewarting horses at padded horseshows. the random inspections arent paid by the goverment like people say they are, the goverment actaully has nothing to do with it.
This is a disgusting practice. This is nothing more than out right ABUSE. I have seen way too many good horses done this way. For you Walking horse people that find this acceptable, perhaps you should have this done to you. Wouldn't hurt my feelings any.
if you bunch of idiots would like to know how its done you should contact me i done it for a living showed horses that is and i had to quit so i have nothing to lose if you want to really want to know the truth you should talk with me
@LauraLovesMocha if they do it far enough ahead of time before his class starts the effect of the chemicals on their feet will not show when the DQP goes to looks at their feet at check in there fore they can get away with it
It's so sad that the horses get put thru that suffering; their natural gait is a beautiful thing to behold and it's a truly a shame that humans have decided that "enhancing" that gait is the way to go.
Watching the actual horses MOVE in this video made me SICK! Soaring is CRUEL and nobody in their RIGHT MIND should think this is acceptable and the way a horse should be treated. The way the horse has to travel/move is injuring it's body over time and look how far back on the horse the rider has to sit over the kidneys. THIS IS AN EVIL PRACTICE!
wait...you KNEW your horse was being sored and you did nothing? oh, ok...for the almighty dollar and almighty awards. that surely makes it ok.
this abuse needs to be shouted from the rooftops. and just for the heck of it: the horses that are on lifts, etc....look TOTALLY IDIOTIC when they move. only a human could have invented this BS
At around 7:10, did she say YEARLING class? I hope I misunderstood that.
And besides that, what was she THINKING? She knows that people are putting mustard oil and diesel fuel on her horse's legs and she just stood by and let it happen??? She might as well have been soring the horse herself! People like that make me so angry.
@99Jessabel99 yes believe it or not yearling class..... this is how bad it can hurt them.. i went to a walking horse show and i entered my horse into a light shod class because ii do not use pads or chains. and there was a horse having a retiremnent ceremony at the age of 12.... they start showing at the age of 1 wether it be lead rope or riding
There is never an excuse for abuse. Never an excuse for purposely causing pain to an innocent animal. People who do these things are no better than child abusers, or wife beaters. Maybe they do that too.
i honestly could only watch a part of this, it made me sick to my stomach!! SHAME on you PEOPLE for taking away the natural gates, that these awesome horses have to offer!! i can't belive someone would actually put there horses through this much pain to take home a frickin ribbon.. HOW DARE YOU!!! i hope all you animal cruelty assholes rot in jail someday!
The lady thats talking about her horse being sored.??? since the 70's ...wow sure took her along time to confess??? I think shes lying!!! why if you see so much??? way so...long to tell anyone???? This person is a really BAD actor!!!.....lol... I cant beleive you can hurt or sore any animal?? to stand on there feet and take this????from a human being....this is BS
it makes me physically sick that this ignorance still exists. the 1º horse can´t stop! It´s gaits and balance are messed up by this abuse. The owner - why did she leave her horse with these barbarians - she is just as guilty for not stopping it. Words are cheap lady
Absolutely DISGUSTING anyone that could do something like this to a horse should be bloody shot!!! i dontt hink i have EVER seen ANYTHING so un-natural it hardly shows the true quality of the horse SHAME ON YOU AMERICA for letting something so disgraceful happen to such beautiful horses and GOOD on W.E.G for BANNING them from the games this year in KY!!!!
@yeahbyme The tails aren't actually broken and ginger isn't to blame for the high elevated tail. There is a muscle under the tail that is cut and then the tail is forced up with a metal device. All sick practices. Very sick.
@oneblackhorse sometimes they arent cut most of the time yes.. but their are some people who want this look without hurting the horse to much. they stretch the tail muscle way out and then use uhmmm.... idk what its called but it is attached to the back of the saddle and it keeps their tail pulled up
This a bunch of crap the guy talking is reading the part of the "owner" which is a bunch of bullshit the walking horse industry has made alot of changes it is better than what it once was. This crap should be taken off the web because it is not credible at all.
The way these people force through pain to make these horses move so unnaturally; it is utterly disgusting to look at. These people, the whole lot of them, should hang their heads in shame!
These horses have larger hearts then the men and woman who handle them! And that is the only reason why these inhuman people can get away with what they are doing to them!
Isn't it sad how those who are in the thick of it will hear first-hand evidence and STILL won't admit there's a problem? I truly believe that until we remove pads, bands, chains, and the like from the show ring, then these horses will continue to be abused due to ignorance and self-righteousness. We are dealing with a society that is ingrained and immune to abuse. It's high time their access to abuse is shut down.
Ok Michael, you said you turned down a yearling so this mean you are an inspecter. You said your horse is being sored by your trainer. But you cant prove it. Then in my eyes you are a very poor excuse for an inspector and you approve of soring your horse so you can win. I don't see how this is fair if you turn down your competition for being sored and your horse is still showing.
All I hear is ´I dont know.... ´ but not a word of ´so I asked, didn´t like and took my horse away from this barn.¨ This owner has no brain and is equally responsible for abuse as the person who is doing it - and then at 6:52 I hear she´s a judge OMG. Then ´I hate it´ , but still nothing about taking the horse out of the situation - ignorant bat
@LaRanaTJ I totally agree with you! "If she ever gets that horse sold" What the hell woman, take your horse out of that barn and Stop showing it & put it back in keg shoes! It would more then likely sell! Oh and she should Not be allowed to be a Judge at shows either! Just my opinion!
Really, what part of the earth have you been showing your tennessee walking horses. The 2009 Celebration had over 400 horse protection act violations which the United states humane society has titiled the show the cruelest horse show on earth.
i have shown for years and never seen anything this severe. This is like a one in a million thing here.this hasnt been practiced in large numbers since the seventies. way to blpow everything out of porportion.
Give me a break! You people need more to do. "I have messed with horses since the '70's and I know that horse was sore'. Then move your horse you old bat. Race horses are put down everyday and you clowns want to pick on these horses - but you have no clue!
owners should insure their amimals get the best of care ,never this or anything like it.ones guilty of doing it or allowing it to be done should have the horse taken away and found a new loving home
cowboycrzy2008: There is a screen in the video that says "All interview text is read by professional voices." So yes - it should sound like it's read off a paper, because it is.
In the very beginning of this video it was stated that this an anonymous interview read by professional voices. This is not fake just protecting the actual TWH owner being interviewed. Too bad the inspectors are not "chosen by someone other than the show/breed organization.
soring is in no way good for the horses how would you like to have stuff on your legs that makes it so painful when you step that you pick up your legs that much
Just to respond to that comment that the video has a "manufacturered evidence" feel to it; the interview words were read by professional actors, since the people interviewed were fearful to have their voices recognized. Please note the "Process Used for These Interviews" link if you want to learn more about the process to gather this evidence against abuse.
First let me say I am 100% not in favor of soring of any kind. but this video has a "manufactored evidance" feel to it. It seems fake and the voices are almost south park like.
All styles/disciplines have their cruel practices, in most styles of showing its called cheating, with walking horses its called training. That is the difference. I had an old TWH trainer tell me, "They'll stop soring them horses when the sore horses stop winning"
The hill billy trainers are probably just too ingorant to know better. How untalented are these horses if you have to do all that just get motion out of them? The should be soo ashamed of themselves. And I'm in the gaited horse world before you tell me I don't know anything about it. If you don't like people critisising your industry CLEAN IT UP!!! It is your responsibility.
Sounds like the person being interviewed in more in it for the money than the trainers if the person has to sale the horse to leave the industry. A true animal lover who believes an animal is being abused would take the horse home or board it in another barn...NOT wait until the horse is sold!!!
I own and show a TWH and support the industry 110% these horses are breed for this, they are not abused, they also have to pass a USDA inspection to show.. does any other breed??
These horses are also checked by the USDA!!!! I think a lawsuit from Celebration, Inc. is forthcoming. Permission was not granted to the organization posting these lies. These horses show until late in their twenties. THIS IS BOGUS!!!! LIES and MISINFORMATION!!! BAD FOSH BAD BAD BAD.
This is disgusting. I own walking horses, and can not believe anyone would do such evil and cruel to a living animal. the only way I can make a difference is to NOT register wirh the American tennessee registries that allow this repulsive showing. I try to only buy Canadian Registered horses, that have never promoted or allowed chains and weights in any class for showing!!! it disgusts me that PETA isnt all over this! my god, it has been going on for How long? Horrific!
the owner should replace the trainer and get one who understands that if he is cruel and caught he would be taking his life in his own hands.and take that horse home and let it heal
I wish they'd post pictures or video that actually apply to the interview. The lady was talking about spotted saddle horses and you didn't see a single one of them in the video. Soring is rather common especially in padded horses, but you don't see it much or at least don't expect to with the flat shod horses.
Those horses just looked miserable. That gait is so hideous and unnatural and the horse looks deformed.
The person being interviewed pissed me off. Is she completely spineless? I would have raised hell if that had been my horse. If she hates it so much, why is she involved in it?
If they hate is so much, WHY do they do it WHY! God it makes me so sick. I own a Walker, he doesn't gait, we do 3 day eventing. I have trained and ridden many naturally wonderful Walking horses. Why would you EVER do this to an animal. I wish they would just shut down showing for a while, maybe then people would STOP!
Soring will not disappear until a strong light is shown on the money that is involved--the spectators that keep coming to the events, the horses that keep being sold for high fees, the trainers that keep making big money doing it, the judges that make big fees judging and looking the other way, the inspectors that are chosen for their ability to look the other way.
The gait looks abnormal. The horses look deformed. This type of horse event needs to disappear. I am disgusted with these people involved with this. Animal abuse laws need to be enforced here.
May these videos--information direct from the owners, judges, and exhibitors--and all the current information about soring being commonplace make a difference. May God have mercy on the horses and none on those who continue to perpetuate this horrible crime.
@whatahorseshow it explains at the beginning that the pictures are NOT the same horses talked about in the interview.

Someone contacted me about some prior comment i made-
tosavealife1966 10 months ago
Protecting animals is tricky nowdays. People own their animals so they feel if they own it, it's theirs to do with as they please. The thing is you can do what you want as long at it is lawful and humane. If your horses are sore you get off it let it heal and seek veterinary care. However, the people they are referring too, did the opposite. Also would you be in this video and deal with the death threats because you admit you intentionally injure your horses for a show? Today, in 2011 I would
tosavealife1966 10 months ago
or does happen animals have suffered, been abused, and died because of being victimized while people like yourselves dispute IF it happened. The problem I see is the evidence is still in show rings that horses are being abused. Young people have been sheilded from it mostly because it happened before your birth. What doesnt make sense is noone here seems bothered that the horses are sore-regardless, and kerasene and gas was poured on them. Would you like to soak your toes in gas /kerosene???
tosavealife1966 10 months ago

I WIN

Kayse38134 10 months ago
I lost all desire to be around the "top" traininers in the Walker industry when I saw the stress, uncomfortable manner of moving, and early passing of horses that were shown to their death. You don't see as much because you are not traveling the nation, you are not on the "inside" like you think and I guarantee u alot of trainers don't want to go to jail so they changed. But the desire to win through the 80's-90's through 2000 was too much, they wnted to win the big money.
tosavealife1966 10 months ago
@tosavealife1966 Not alot of "big Money" won in the walking horse industry.... That is quarter and thourobred....
spottedm 2 months ago
I train quarters, apps, and paints professionally. Before I worked top horses I saw things that would make you puke behind the barn. I watched the Big Lick horses be humanely euthanized for the extensive hoof damage. You have never been "let in", that's what trainer's refer to the hidden secret life of the horses being trained. I saw Walker's that could ONLY stand because of the pain from the 1980's-2000. We saw sore horses and we threatened with no future in the horse biz if we told.

All styles/disciplines have their cruel practices, in most styles of showing its called cheating, with walking horses its called training. That is the difference. I had an old TWH trainer tell me, "They'll stop soring them horses when the sore horses stop winning"
