Wayne refused to go anywhere near or be filmed, photographed or fight with anyone over 4 foot 8 inches. You are watching an illusion created by the U.S.A .the man was a moral midget.
See wayne newton,Elvis Pricely,Colonel Sanders and Donald mc Ronald for further sugar spun iconoclasm.
I got to meet him at Silverton, Co when he was filming True Grit. He was a true gentleman and extremely friendly, unlike another on the set. Since we were from Okla, and the story line was set in Okla, he used the 12 of us (we were explorer scouts on a 100 mile hike in the mtns) in one of the scenes. Found out later it went to the floor. Didn't matter...I got to meet John Wayne.
@sm9847 I don't mean to conflict, but South Dakota is where the True Grit film happened. Maybe it was another film, as John Wayne starred in over 250-films.
John Wayne will never be " red lined " on any American spell check software, We should all feel so lucky and should all be so honored. Long Live The Duke.
Offensive lineman at USC that injured his shoulder surfing..yes, that was also John Wayne. While recovering he got a job working on a movie set and someone spotted him. Thought he might make a good actor. The world is a better place because of it.
John Wayne was an amazing human being...as is everyone..but the stars nowadays should take a page out of the past and realize if you just wave to the camera people they could leave you alone...just take it in stride ...your out in public...if it wasnt for the public...they wouldn;t be so famous..
