Posted 2-13-11: The FDA has changed the "legal" wording on our food products. Can KAF and farmers like cornguy677 please ensure us that the wheat is an heirloom variety and that they are able to harvest and save their seed for future crops? Sadly, it's not enough any more to say a product is "not GMO." :( But Mega-Corps will not allow farmers to save seed, so that is a telling factor. Sorry to seem pedantic, but Big-Agra and the FDA side-step the "legal" wording more every year. Thanks.
The wheat farmers are growing to make King Arthur Flour is not from “heirloom” varieties per se as it has been hybridized (cross bred) to yield certain characteristics. None of it is genetic modification in the way “GMO” is used to describe crops. There is no inter-species DNA manipulation just good “old-fashioned” cross breeding. Presently, there is no GMO wheat in our food supply chain. The surest way to avoid GMOs is to buy organic produce which by definition does not permit it.
I was so excited to stumble onto this video.. for whatever reason I never noticed it before on your website, but wow.. so glad I did! I am from Montana where we have fabulous wheat crops as well, but I have never thought about the "connection". Thanks to the farmers who grow the wheat and their families who sacrifice and make it all possible! And a BIG thanks to KAF for providing fabulous product that I can rely on every time!
Thank you KAF and Cornguy for posting your comments. Also Thank you for making a great product that is SAFE for us to eat. I watched the movie "The Future of Food and it is scary what is going on and we the public at large are mostly unaware!! I STRONGLY recommend everyone watch it. It is factual, no political agenda, very informative. Thanks again,
@amc283 We grow King Arthur Stone Ground flour, we will not plant GMO wheat if it becomes available. We do not apply insecticides to our wheat. We believe that Mother Nature knows what is best for us. We do our best to comply with what is given us. We rotate crops and maintain quality of grain. We believe it has to be good enough for us to be good enough for you, our consumer customers.
