clever portable design I am guessing this will improve efficiency by 10-20 percent. I have been working on designing a central air system that works on this concept but involves MUCH MORE intricasy.... I expect it would cause a single wood stove to heat even a 4000 sq ft home completely with my design
this fan makes a huge difference because its circulating that hot air, much like a furnace fan does through your house. It helps warm the rest of your house/cottage more evenly, so that the room that the stove in isnt blistering hot, while the other rooms are much cooler. I dont have this model of fan, as I have a smaller eco fan, but it makes a big difference still.
There is no way this, or any, fan can meet the claim of "increasing efficiency and reducing fuel consumption". It can circulate air, yes, and it is converting heat output from the stove into electricity to do so, reducing (by an extremely tiny amount) the heat available to heat the room. Remember the laws of physics people!
@sterlingab Hello and regards from Germany.According to studies from the US army these TEFs Thermoelectric fans can safe up to 50 percent fuel if used in a tent. The temperature on the ground is higher and the losses on the roof are smaller
"it is converting heat output from the stove into electricity to do so"
That is not all it is doing. It is also DRAWING heat from the shell of the stove and putting it into the room.
The more heat that gets drawn into the room, the less heat has an opportunity to leave through the flu.
Any fan drawing heat from the stove would do the exact same thing, but the thermoelectric fan allows the heat of the stove to power the fan, rather than a separate source of electricity.
What a crock of crap, this thing does nothing. it can't make more heat from the top of the stove that's not already there. talk about blowing smoke! i like the part about taking cool air and turing it into hot air. where can you get cool air on top of a stove. you got to love a schlock
@skippyxskippy it will improve efficiency, just as any heater with a fan vastly out performs any convection heater (any with a flu that is) and indirectly reduce fuel consumption because you room will get hotter faster so you can turn the heater down. if a fan on a heater wont improve heat removal then why do CPU heat sinks have fans on them?
@HomeDistiller your terminology is wrong. "...with a fan vastly out performs any convection heater.. " what you are advocating IS convection. without any fans, the stove has some degree of convection, but mostly radiative heat transfer. the benefit of this device would be that it needs no electricity, so works during power outage. Another benefit is as the stove cools, it will not be pushing cold air around. You may send me a check. Hope it doesn't bounce. I'm mean about things like that.
ever heard of CONVECTION ? this item is 100% not necessary

a better idea would be to just turn the chimney into a more effective heat exchanger.
thermoelectric devices are pretty awesome but this is close to useless.

wery nine idea !?
Now you can power pellets stoke hold without electricy, you need patent for this...
Its could be great far away from civilization...
