OK you have most of the notes now you need to back off and play it as music. You're close, the technicque is OK slow down and go for BACH like no pedal. You can do it the technique is there, go for it.
He's onto other pieces. Now performing with an orchestra and studying performance. He was about 98% self-taught at the time of this performance, and had only been playing piano for about 5 years, so all things considered, not a bad performance of this piece.
From his mom, no offense taken, since he had only been playing 5 years when he performed this piece. I'm sure there are a lot of people who perform it better. I'd just like to hear what others can do with this piece after only 5 years of hard work and dedication, and btw 98% self-taught.
Appassionata !!! The best Piano Work Ever.If you want to hear the strongest performance , Listen to John Ogdon , but the performance here is great too , and enjoy this unique masterpiece of art from Beethonen .The Titan of Music .
I wish you would re-do this in a proper studio with proper mikes and have the camera on the keyboard. I think you play pretty well but it's hard to tell with the rotten acoustics.
so wonderful... im 16 and i dont even know how piano was played... and i want to play like yours... wats ur secret towards achieving ur goal? pls tell me
darkangel -Thanks for the comment. As his mother, I can tell you there are no secrets. Just a lot of very hard work and dedication, anywhere from 12-18 hours each and everyday and lots of love and passion for art.
Many Professor's would recommend not practicing that many hours due to the possibility of serious injury.
4 or 5 hours of concentrated study in enough. I would using the rest of the time away from the piano. Reading books on performance, listening to Cd's, watching DVD's of other pianists, Studying theory, studying the music away from the piano,
studying the arts, history, ect. Just some thoughts on preventing burn out and injury.
WELL THAT SOUNDS GOOD! how can i find that certain DVD? maybe he is the answer on the reality of my dreams... well, to wake up also in my long lost dream... ahihi
WELL,THAT'S WHAT a violionist said to me last tym... he was a member of an orchestra here in our country.
well,i have borrowed once his violin and i tried to play it correctly, but i didn't played it well... i tried also playing the piano in our church but it seems that i dont have enough talent to play even a single minute....
Damn, I had no idea the piece could be played this fast. I've got the Gilels recording and he takes more than 8 minutes to play this and I thought that was fairly quick.
Speaking fom experience I find this young man phenomenal. What he has been able to accomplish in a very short time speaks much of his character and passion of this music. I am shocked that anyone in their right mind would say anything negative, but I'm wise enough to know it comes from jealousy. Much success to you! I know you will be a huge success. Fantastic techniques, emotions, passion and interpretation.
Some of us just love to proclaim how talented and good we are as a musician! You should read some of the comments on Master Horowitz play Liszt Consolation No. 3. My dad doesn't let me read them all but a few I read are really funny; like the master is missing some keys or wrong key! I can only compare Derek to Volodos!
Other than the fact that pedal was used way too liberally, its good.
I should learn this piece...

you have your point there! maybe it is right to say that proper care of your fingers must be done....

darkangel10001, some books on this subject are,
With your own two hands by Professor Seymour Berstein,
Gygory Sandor On Piano Plaing(He studied with Bartok)
There is a DVD by Professor Seymour Fink called Mastering Piano Technique with some great preparatory exercises to use before even playing a note.

I can only complain about the sound quality! Well, a shakey treble in one or two spots but I'm just a sourpuss!
