  • While flying from MSP-SEA in 1980, NWO swapped our DC-10 w/ a 747. While on that flight, we had to make a scheduled stop in Spokane. I often wondered the look on the faces of the pax when they first saw that four-holed hauler sitting at the gate at GEG. The good ole days...

  • Are those the Twin Towers?

  • I miss the old commercial with the song: " North-west O-r-i-e-n-t Air-lines, ....the Worrrrrld is Going Our Wayyyyyyy!"

  • northwest rocked!!

  • and my bad puns are...

    an Occident waiting to happen!

    OW! OOH! AHH!

  • and there was that GREAT movie, "The Occidental Tourist"!

    OH MAN, I"M GOOD!

  • I'm surprised Minneapolis wasn't included as a destination from the Orient, considering MSP was the company's base of operations.

  • I dunno did anyone watch,"The Hijacker Who Got Away" on national geographic? Look it up. It happened on a northwest orient flight!!!

  • THATS AWSOME !!!!!

What happened to Northwest Orient ?

  • when northwest orient bought republic airlines in 1986 they dropped the orient from their name which they'd used since the end of WW 2 and became northwest airlines.

  • What made them add "Orient" to their name at the end of WW2?

  • @jaybelowzero Well, in days of old, the world was divided into the Occident (the East) and the Orient (the West). When the Northwest Airlines of the 1930s and 40s was awarded coveted routes to Japan, the Philippines and points beyond, the company re-branded itself as NORTHWEST ORIENT, however the legal name of the company remained Northwest Airlines, Inc.

  • @Drillin4Oil OOPS! Got it wrong. The Occident was the West and the Orient was the East.

  • @Drillin4Oil so you committed...a written Occident?

    BADA BING! BADA BOOM!

  • @csxworker And now has one of the worst logos of all time!! I triangle pointing down! Ok, sure...they say it is supposed to be pointing "northwest". But only from one side of the plane. The otherside it's pointing northeast. However, both sides...it's pointing down!!

  • @csxworker I flew "Northwest Orient" in 1987 from San Francisco to Honolulu. I guess they hadn't updated all their planes by then.

  • Thanks...from a proud alum of this great airline!
