While flying from MSP-SEA in 1980, NWO swapped our DC-10 w/ a 747. While on that flight, we had to make a scheduled stop in Spokane. I often wondered the look on the faces of the pax when they first saw that four-holed hauler sitting at the gate at GEG. The good ole days...
when northwest orient bought republic airlines in 1986 they dropped the orient from their name which they'd used since the end of WW 2 and became northwest airlines.
@jaybelowzero Well, in days of old, the world was divided into the Occident (the East) and the Orient (the West). When the Northwest Airlines of the 1930s and 40s was awarded coveted routes to Japan, the Philippines and points beyond, the company re-branded itself as NORTHWEST ORIENT, however the legal name of the company remained Northwest Airlines, Inc.
@csxworker And now has one of the worst logos of all time!! I triangle pointing down! Ok, sure...they say it is supposed to be pointing "northwest". But only from one side of the plane. The otherside it's pointing northeast. However, both sides...it's pointing down!!

I'm surprised Minneapolis wasn't included as a destination from the Orient, considering MSP was the company's base of operations.

@csxworker I flew "Northwest Orient" in 1987 from San Francisco to Honolulu. I guess they hadn't updated all their planes by then.
