I learned to kick as if your opponent was standing 'next to himself' so that you wouldn't aim for the man but try to kick through him instead. Works pretty well :)
Woah look at that! You call that kicks? This guy don't know how to kick and that kind of kick is not Muay Thai kick. I see that people who dislike this video know how to kick the way a Muay Thai fighter does. This video is just another mistake.
@eyelesskiller8 Let me get this straight. I am Thai and I learned Muay Thai since the age of 10 and I don't kick like the guy who demonstrate how to kick in this video. Longer range of kick is one of the advantages over fist in some situation. The reason why I said that his kick wasn't quite right was that his leg wasn't stretched when it hit the target. Kicking like that reduces the range of leg attack.
@MisterMoKP i have been training since i was a kid asswell . You are wrong about the kick . get your facts right and stop making comments against trained instructors who will kick ur ass in a fight!
@MrNwn007 the power depends on u, if there's one thing i learned, ur strenght depends allot on your willpower. Put all ur effort into it, and watch urself grow. in every way :)
@MrNwn007 you can still kick plenty hard if you practice. Many great kickers are not really thick but have great coordination which leads to power. An advantage to being skinny is you will fatigue less quickly and likely have greater reach than your opponent, all other factors beings equal.
@TrynaBeeFunny what if the person who practices muay thai loses control in a fight or becomes scared or anything? if there's another thing i've learned is that anything can happen in a street fight, you may easily become from fearless to scared because its all about adrenaline, something which can't be controled all the time...
@11MasterBlade I don't think that can happen if you know you're a good fighter and have confidence in yourself. Also when you fought plenty of times before you won't have that much adrenaline even in a street fight.
@churchdointhugthug that's the reason why sparring exists... it helps you gain confidence in your fighting abilities and you can also learn some things about you that you didn't knew... for example, before enrolling and having a passion for martial arts, i used to be very shy and unconfident to the point of being embarrassed by almost anything... i've never been a wuss however 'cuz that's one of the qualities representive to a bully( a weak character is hidden behind a loud mouth)...
@churchdointhugthug anyway, my main point is that it doesn't matter the art, but the person. some people can change while others don't and the biggest cowards are bullies( i know it from experience).
It doesn't matter what martial art you train in. It isn't the martial arts it's the the person. Watch the fight between lyoto machida who does karate and Jon bones jones who does mui Thai kickboxing and bones won
@MrDoubleAAs you're right when you say that martial arts don't matter but karate's like the stupidest fighting sport ever... they mostly teach you how to block attacks but they don't really teach you how to strike... i would choose BJJ 'cuz i'm training in kickboxing for like many years and i wanna learn something helpful in case of a streetfight, any opinion?
@11MasterBlade Learn anything bro... and don't dis on karate too much. It is mostly the dojo. But its how much u wana practice, so pick an art u like.
@lamichael19 what im trying to say is that learning how to block is helpful in competitions but in case of a real street fight, the best defense is offence...
@11MasterBlade Defendo is the best martial arts you can learn. People say it depends on the person, this is wrong. Look up Judo Vs Karate. Judo wins within seconds and I knew who won before it started. Point is, Defendo is all an all around martial art. It covers defense, offense, grappling... So on. I haven't trained in it myself, but I hear it's great. I would do Muay Thai next if anything.
@TrynaBeeFunny i'm training in kickboxing for 3 years... i know it doesn't sound much compared to experienced fighters who are training all their life in different styles but if there's one thing i learned is that it doesn't matter the art, but the person so don't get offenced or anything, but i consider your statement wrong. there isn't such things as the perfect martial art. if you see a muay thai vs boxing match, you may think that muay thai has the advantage, but its also wrong...
i agree u always keep your hands up... when kicking with the right you cover your face with your left hand. your technique is good against beginners but with experienced fighters they will enjoy countering you all day :) when you throw your kicks you don't have any balance also....
@chiooh2 the only way you can become an experienced fighter is to train over and over 'til your body is in top shape and your muscles explode... not all of us can have the same speed and reflexes and tbh that CAN'T be gained all the time during training... you must mostly have it inside of you... of course, if you ask me, strength is the only gainable attribute of a fighter but even balance differs for one person to another so...
@chiooh2 ... there are numerous reasons why one style is better than the other or the advantages which makes your "attribute" even... let's just say "better"... it all depends upon what style you choose 'cuz karate and kung fu are like one of th only fighting sports where balance counts the most... grappling sports like judo or aikido depends mostly upon strength... kickboxing, boxing or muay thai depends mostly upon speed of reaction... just think about what i've said...
@chiooh2 also, no matter of what fighting sport you choose, speed of reaction must always be there... it's something as I said , you must have inside of you... IF YOU HAVE SPEED YOU DON'T NEED BALANCE...
All these guys videos have their feet flat and hands down...sloppy form and bad habbits...also you def need to cross the hand that doesn't drop...and in a fight, no shit u don't drop ur hand all the way but when going for a power shot it helps to drop it a little
@xinktx i tend to drop my right hand ( if i kick with my right leg) but then i always cross my left hand to the left side of my body, althought my teacher does get annoyed by it and keeps telling me to keep both my hands up ( which i do ever more often ) the kick has alot of details that are quite diffucult to get a hang off
@MrNewbornbaby you can use those kicks to knock your opponent's balance but high kicks are predictable in a street fight so its better to use your arms in a confrontation, no matter if you punch or grapple... don't you ever forget, fist is faster BUT foot is stronger!
@MrNewbornbaby sorry friend but i don't have a facebook profile... i find it stupid to expose yourself when people can meet each other face to face... once again, sorry.
@MrNewbornbaby i'm 18 years old... dk how old you are but i guess there's no mystery in this, right? im practicing kickboxing for 3 years straight and believe me that there's a difference between training and real street fight...
Fuck the academy these guys dont know what theyre doing, their training methods are horrible, and there are many mistakes in this video. watch their student testing video... its pretty pathetic
when right kicking (low kick) your arms must do that..
right arm goes behind u for helping rotation(think of pulling a rope for extra force)
left arm stays in front of the face for avoiding punches etc..
also wtf is that?? the only thing that must contact is the shin and not the foot.. dont forget that you wont be hitting punching bags for ever.. ur opponement will be a human and if he goes for defence and u hit him with for bottom part of leg and not the shin the injury will be devestating..
You want to hit with your shin, it wont be as fast as a kick that lands with your foot but it will have more power and damage if you land with your shin. Turn your hips over and rotate with your shoulder to really get the power into it.
I come from a TKD background and recently started muay thai/kickboxing and am having real trouble kicking with my shin rather than my foot. This video doesn't seem right at all. I'm so confused. Any help?

@nimrodrool Yes, you throw one arm back for momentum + balance and keep the other up to guard.... Unless you enjoy receiving a counter punch in the jaw? You throw a right round kick, your right arm swings back for momentum and balance, your left arm stays up over your jaw to protect you from a counter. Vice Versa for a left round. These guys don't defend properly while kicking.
@RobMarx23 that is the muay thai kick.... in muay thai you would swing your arm out and keep your other hand guarding your face. and yes he can bend his legs! because it all depends on the person, and what he is more comfortable with.
@aayyyyrrreenn Yes but these guys bend their legs far too much, this causes the power to come from the flick of their knees as opposed to from the rotation of their hips which Muay Thai is renowned for (And has sadly been copied by many other martial arts).
@PrivateTimmay93 If you didnt notice his left hand is always up defending the left side of his head. Its just an instuctional kick video. Kicks like this are usually thrown after a punch. The whole point of it is to throw the right hand combos to create enough space between you and your opponnent to land a kick. Even if you miss and kick too high, you can come back with a back hand, followed with a right straight Or vice versa if your south paw.
@kodogounis Kickboxing is derived from Muay Thai so they're bound to be similar. The difference between Muay Thai and Kickboxing is not in the kicks and punches, it's the elbow and knee techniques of Muay Thai.
The thing is that where I study Muay Thai they teach us, for example, to keep your right foot flat on the floor while punching a straight right cross, they tell us not to pivot the right foot. Also, they are teaching us not to drop the guard when kicking, unlike its shown in this video.
@veko70 Yeah, don't drop the guard. Right kick= left hand remains up in guard, right hand swing to generate torque. (MMA might give up power 4 guard)
That pivot thing is weird though. I've never heard of that. UNLESS you're southpaw, cuz you generally wouldn't pivot your lead foot unless throwing a hook/body shot. If you're fighting orthodox stance though, I was taught that your right punches are always thrown with a back leg pivot to generate hip power
@orangeiceice12 I have asked around, and ppl told me that they do pivot their right foot while doing right straight cross, but only sometimes, the basics are taught without a pivot, because sometimes they want to do right kick right after right cross. Well, our master says that its not a gym, its a school of proper muay thai. By the way - he trained the only muay thai world champion from Canada - Clifton Brown. Here is the video (in the same gym Im training)
I have a question. As I understand, there is traditional (proper, old school) muay thai and a second one - kind of evolved in the past years, more kickboxingized style. Am i right?
by "traditional" i do not mean Muay Boran, i mean muay thai but the strict Thailand old school version of it
@au13apoel Theres many ways to go about it... me personally I keep both my hands up... But you can gather more power out of it by throwing your one arm out... It's all based on the situation
sometime you need to kick at face or shin first for interuption, and then kick hard at head. Some great muay thai boxers can kick 3 times in 3 seconds.
In my opinion, this video is correct in most ways. I would not recommend to take a step forward though... And I just wonder where their guards are while kicking,,,
@BoneRomania u hit with the lower part of ur shin to high and u can get permant nerve damage. if u have questions about it i am a muay thai and mma fighter i might be able to help u.
what he fuck is this shit... U SHOULDN'T STEP- NO SWINGIN ARMS LIKE A FUCKTARD,TAKES THOSE ARMS ON YOUR FACE!! HIT WITH THE FUCKIN SHIN, NOT THE NECK OF YOUR FOOT!! crap, complete crap
@TheViolenceMan Just out of curiosity: How are you going to throw a right kick from an orthodox stance without a step? Your lead foot is facing the wrong direction
people chatting about dropping the arm, but our trainer said thats the old kicking style but they now try and move the arm across rather than down but end the day every fighter has their own style
"You pivot while you kick, you kick with your shin like a baseball bat, drop your arm like pulling a string, Turn your hip like a pendulem"- Ajarn Chai ( world championship muay thai instructor and president of muay thai kickboxing association
Fucking IDIOTS DONT KNOW WHAT THE FUCK you are talking about omg you need to keep both hands up.... omg use your foot.... omg dont pivot while you kick...... this isn't fucking Muay Thai if you don't do those things.
Thai!!!!!! All this vids are dumb so please go out and train with someone certified, and actually trained with legit people. Guru Dan Inosanto, Erik Paulson, Jeff Imada, Ajarn Chai( with whom I have all Trained with).
All of you guys are ignorant and stupid.... OMG he dropped one arm you are supposed to drop an arm to help with torque and to turn your hips over. Keep the opposite hand guarding your face, even though this is really sloppy in the vid. And before you comment and talk shit I trained with some of the best in the world and started at 7 before any of this bullshit ufc crap was mainstream. Oh and to people who think they know what they say... if you don't now who ajarn chai is GTFO you dont know muay
You should take note that these guys are doing a more or less Kick boxing version of the thai kick. So be careful.
If you find it hard to complete the kick, there could be two reasons. No 1, you havent turn you upper body enough. To improve it, simply imagine your leg is dragging behind the body. Or you don't lean enough on your supporting leg. If you don't do that, there is no room for your hips to turn over to complete the kick since the upper torso is jamming the hip motion.
Not kicking right anyway here is something that might help. Human Weapon - Karate Inside Leg Kick. Gotta extend then turn that hip over if your gi or pant leg dont snap then WE need more practise . If your knee goes past your target you wont get that snap at the end.
@krypekeeper that may be a preference for sum ppl but in my gym we only teach beginners to plant at 90degrees, when ur advanced or spar Sumone advanced it kinda telegraph ur kick if u plant instead of using the pivot
Lol it really dosent matter how tough ur chin is, a ko depends more on the sudden shock you can deliver to the brain. Aka how hard u can make Sumones brain rattle inside the skull
i lightly tap the flat part of my chin with a pool stick over and over to strengthen the bone. it use to bruise and hurt a bit but not anymore. (like in the movie bloodsport)
real muay thai kicking style, we use front shin kick at target because it's strong and hard of body weapon if it has no necesity, we don't kick by ankle because it is soft weapon and whenever we kick at target we should protect our face also if you didn't,
Well MongKP is my other account.

Don't bend your leg and keep your guard up while kicking. 2 things these "pros" fail to do....
RobMarx23 4 months ago 12
@RobMarx23 False you move your hands for momentum, you can argue with me all you want over the internet now but that's even how Buakaw kicks
nimrodrool 1 month ago 2
@nimrodrool Yes, you throw one arm back for momentum + balance and keep the other up to guard.... Unless you enjoy receiving a counter punch in the jaw? You throw a right round kick, your right arm swings back for momentum and balance, your left arm stays up over your jaw to protect you from a counter. Vice Versa for a left round. These guys don't defend properly while kicking.
RobMarx23 1 month ago
@RobMarx23 yea their hand was on the wrong side lol their faces were completely open
fullmetal891 1 month ago
@nimrodrool When fighting, you should never lower your guard, even when kicking. When kicking for power only, you use your arms for momentum.
IcyBlade3003 1 month ago
@IcyBlade3003 But these guys are Training
nimrodrool 1 month ago
@RobMarx23 that is the muay thai kick.... in muay thai you would swing your arm out and keep your other hand guarding your face. and yes he can bend his legs! because it all depends on the person, and what he is more comfortable with.
aayyyyrrreenn 1 month ago
@aayyyyrrreenn Yes but these guys bend their legs far too much, this causes the power to come from the flick of their knees as opposed to from the rotation of their hips which Muay Thai is renowned for (And has sadly been copied by many other martial arts).

love how their defence goes down when they preform the kick
PrivateTimmay93 5 months ago
@PrivateTimmay93 If you didnt notice his left hand is always up defending the left side of his head. Its just an instuctional kick video. Kicks like this are usually thrown after a punch. The whole point of it is to throw the right hand combos to create enough space between you and your opponnent to land a kick. Even if you miss and kick too high, you can come back with a back hand, followed with a right straight Or vice versa if your south paw.
flipmodified66 4 months ago
Muay Thai-KickBoxing this is the same kick ... :S
kodogounis 5 months ago
@kodogounis Kickboxing is derived from Muay Thai so they're bound to be similar. The difference between Muay Thai and Kickboxing is not in the kicks and punches, it's the elbow and knee techniques of Muay Thai.

The thing is that where I study Muay Thai they teach us, for example, to keep your right foot flat on the floor while punching a straight right cross, they tell us not to pivot the right foot. Also, they are teaching us not to drop the guard when kicking, unlike its shown in this video.
veko70 5 months ago
@veko70 Yeah, don't drop the guard. Right kick= left hand remains up in guard, right hand swing to generate torque. (MMA might give up power 4 guard)
That pivot thing is weird though. I've never heard of that. UNLESS you're southpaw, cuz you generally wouldn't pivot your lead foot unless throwing a hook/body shot. If you're fighting orthodox stance though, I was taught that your right punches are always thrown with a back leg pivot to generate hip power
Listen to your instructor tho :P
God bless
orangeiceice12 5 months ago
@orangeiceice12 I have asked around, and ppl told me that they do pivot their right foot while doing right straight cross, but only sometimes, the basics are taught without a pivot, because sometimes they want to do right kick right after right cross. Well, our master says that its not a gym, its a school of proper muay thai. By the way - he trained the only muay thai world champion from Canada - Clifton Brown. Here is the video (in the same gym Im training)
veko70 5 months ago
@orangeiceice12 sorry, wont let me insert the video for some reason :S
veko70 5 months ago
I have a question. As I understand, there is traditional (proper, old school) muay thai and a second one - kind of evolved in the past years, more kickboxingized style. Am i right?
by "traditional" i do not mean Muay Boran, i mean muay thai but the strict Thailand old school version of it

@au13apoel When u put ur arm back you get more power while kicking. But yes ur enemy could get you a box left :P
LittleWunder 2 months ago
@au13apoel Theres many ways to go about it... me personally I keep both my hands up... But you can gather more power out of it by throwing your one arm out... It's all based on the situation
thomas007 1 month ago
sometime you need to kick at face or shin first for interuption, and then kick hard at head. Some great muay thai boxers can kick 3 times in 3 seconds.
thebigboy007 6 months ago
In my opinion, this video is correct in most ways. I would not recommend to take a step forward though... And I just wonder where their guards are while kicking,,,

Oh and to people who think they know what they say... if you don't now who ajarn chai is GTFO you dont know muay

garciaw416 6 months ago
i always find my upper body seems to fight against the kick taking away all the power any advise, thanks
2peaman 6 months ago
@2peaman

BadguyturnedGood 6 months ago
@krypekeeper that may be a preference for sum ppl but in my gym we only teach beginners to plant at 90degrees, when ur advanced or spar Sumone advanced it kinda telegraph ur kick if u plant instead of using the pivot
clinganc 6 months ago
Lol it really dosent matter how tough ur chin is, a ko depends more on the sudden shock you can deliver to the brain. Aka how hard u can make Sumones brain rattle inside the skull
clinganc 6 months ago
i lightly tap the flat part of my chin with a pool stick over and over to strengthen the bone. it use to bruise and hurt a bit but not anymore. (like in the movie bloodsport)

real muay thai kicking style, we use front shin kick at target because it's strong and hard of body weapon if it has no necesity, we don't kick by ankle because it is soft weapon and whenever we kick at target we should protect our face also if you didn't,
opponent will puch your face soon, be careful...

too weak kicking for real standard Muay Thai boxer.
The kicking leg is not the right position for Muay Thai. Kicking like this is similar to round kick in TKD.
