  • I feel so bad for the trumpet players at that tempo. Jesus.

  • Sounds gruellingly difficult. I love it :).

  • Oh God, the flute and pic part in the beginning for this piece is Ridiculous, but once it's mastered...it gives a full-out effect and sounds so amazing! Agh it always gives me sick chills hearing it again. So many upbeats and ta-beat entrances..

  • The poor woodblock player. I feel sorry for him.

  • Sounds like a freaking mess. And wood blocks are stupid! I think my hearing is damaged

  • I wish my youth orchestra were this cool.

  • You gusy did and AMAZING job. But the person who wrote the song made it kinda sloppy. But u guys did

and awesome job. Keep up the good work!!!! :)

  • This is not a very good rendition of this piece. It's like half as fast as should be conducted...

  • 1:49 Bass drum player gets lost.

  • When did this performance happen? I played this (tuba) with NWYSO in 1999 or 2000, but I can't tell if this is that performance or not. This piece is MONSTROUSLY hard for high schoolers. I remember being afraid that we would never get it together, but by performance time it was my favorite piece. Brings back memories!

  • @meprimea This was at our final concert for the 2009-2010 season. Haha. Yeah, that was a fun ensemble to play in.

  • @emantock91 Hahaha, well I was only off by a decade. You say you're at Purdue? Tell Jay Gephart that Matt Primeau says hi - he was my tuba teacher in high school.

  • I so agree with the poster of this video. This song is a real beyotch to play! I figuratively and quite possibly literally died when I played this.

  • I think honestly the woodblock player had the hardest part...

  • @trainobl I totally agree with you!

  • @trainobl I definite;y agree with you!!!! But they all did a wonderful job!!!

  • As I trumpet player, I'd want to kill the conductor for taking it this slow. Straight high Bs and C#s in the first part. Ridiculous! Still this is very well played, and one of my favorite pieces :)

  • I love this piece... Well I love listening to this piece, though it sounds like it would be a nightmare to perform. John Adams is famous/infamous for intricate rhythms that don't make any sense unless they are played exactly right.

  • I HATED this when I first rehearsed it, and for several weeks thereafter. By performance time, though I loved it. Definitely a challenge.

  • I remember getting the sheet music to this and thinking, "Wow, this looks easy, I guess" and then we played it. I died a bit. My brain and my trumpet both exploded simultaneously.

  • The hardest part of performing this piece is staying awake ...

  • Jesus christ the conductors baton is massive...

  • Get's a bit crazy at the 6/4, but it's pretty good. Just played this at Montclair with Jeffrey Grogan.

  • Please note, I didn't remove my comment. I removed the double posting. Google removed the second post.

Mr Emantock91, this was quite superb.

  • @ihadaralf thanks a bunch, I really appreciate the feedback. I am actually at Purdue University now, and will be playing in the orchestra for the Halloween concert. I have to say that it is an awesome lineup! If somehow I get it recorded, you will get the chance to listen! WOOT WOOT!

  • @ihadaralf recorded at the Hilbert Circle Theater in Indianapolis. It's the New World Youth Symphony Orchestra!

  • Great job, Emantock91. What part did you play?

  • @VocalEdgeTV i played first trombone. it was super fun! :D

  • @emantock91 how was this hard to play?! there is just a few chords being layered over the top of each other with a slow rate of harmonic change.

  • @HEAPproductions if you're so good, why don't you play it? Seriously, this is a challenge for the ensemble and individual. Adams designed it so that it uses the fullest of each individuals playing ability.

  • @HEAPproductions Yeah, it was easy...

If you were playing woodblock. -____-

  • @HEAPproductions this piece changed time signature on average of every 3 bars. I've done an analysis of this piece for a class. Theres a lot of different rhythms happening against each other.
