There is ONE source for this bodhi myth. 1800s PREFACE of the yi jin jing has the story of him staring at a rock wall for years then disappearing into thin air leaving behind 2 books. 1 being the yi jin jing, which doesnt teach any fighting. it only teaches stretches and breathing exercises. even the MYTH doesnt say bodhi taught shaolin monks anything.

It's a tall tale that kalari is somehow the originator of all martial arts (though it is certainly the oldest) but that isn't the case with the most famous one. Shaolin is said to be a fighting style influenced by Bodhidharma, the Indian patriarch of Zen buddhism. When he took over Shaolin monastery, he started the practice of martial arts.

Kalari TRUTH:
In Sangam, Kalari was not used as a martial act according to dick Luijendijk, a researcher at the university of Nijmegen. "Kalari" is a centre of learning in Kerala. they taught language, math etc. later on, there were fight schools, thats what "payattu kalari" means.

3. Creation of 5 animal kung fu styles is documented, NO BODHI: Jueyuan was a master of the 18 Luohan Hands. the original 18 techniques of Shaolin. He expand to 72, but wanted to do more. He travel to Gansu Province to the city of Lanzhou and met Li Sou. He was a master of Hong Quan. they work with Bai YuFeng and expand the 72 techniques to around 170. Those 170 techniques were than divided into the 5 animal forms.

It really is just starting to promote themselves.

The siddhas were the ones who spread applied philosophy. Bogar was known by the name of “Bo-Yang Lao-Tzu”, and became the founder of the great world- renowned philosophy of Taoism. Bodhidharma went after!. Buddha was still not in view at that time. Chinese people were great in grasping knowledge and innovation as he says in the texts and he took some as students and taught them the science of inner view.

you ignore the fact several mudra's from Indian yoga have been found in chinese and japanese martial arts, so have several breathing exercises, you also fail to take into account the presence of bodhidharma cave on Mt song which is revered by monks TO THIS DATE, also all the monks there agree in unison that chinese ma came from India the only people who debate this seem to be the one's who've never met the monks anyway I'm returning this oct and you can come along and see for yourself,
