What a great intro pinging those harmonics announcing yet another Rush gem is on the way. From the first time I heard it I knew another classic had arrived! It cracks me up when fellow Rush fan buds of mine bemoan the lack of critical respect Rush gets from industry rags or the R&R hall or whatever. Who fucking cares? The hacks whining about Rush having the gall to write intelligent music, always taking their musicianship to the highest point they can as "pretentious" show their ignorance!
of all the rush songs I've tried to play on drums over the years (note "tried") for some reason THIS is the one that seemed to give me the hardest time. that's the cool part about rush, even thier less technical stuff is still brilliant
@vectron12 The Wal bass definitely doesn't fit Red Barchetta. I think he should tour with his Rick and whip it out for the solid gold classics, such as this. Would be cool!
A song about a Ferrari. Bloody valuble Ferrari at that. If I was his white haired uncle, I would have sold the thing at auction and retired on the proceeds!
Saw rush in the early nineties. Double decked rotating drum kit with spiral staircase. Lee and liefson playing whilst dancing on the 20 sequencer and effect pedals each had! Amazing!
I cant believe how natural these guys still are on stage after all they have been thru and all the years. they can still get out and play any song and make the audiance feel like it was the first time ever .they were great on snakes and arrows, both times!!!
Me too dude. I want him to take out that Ricky for more that ripping sound it has. S&A tour rocked man. Premiered Entre Nous and Circumstances. Even though they don't agree on this fresh rumor, they said they may do another concept album. That means another 20 minute epic :) Doesn't matter to me though. I've loved all their tunes. I wish I wasn't the only 15 year old who cared about this band. They hace a song for every chapter I've experienced in life. Rush: God's way of speaking to us.
Actually, Alex said in an interview a few weeks ago on an new album stating "I heard people want us to do another concept album. Didn't we already do that? We like to keep things fresh and new"
actually they will tell you ALL of their albums are conceptual. Just not in the style of 2112 and Hemispheres anymore; but with a central theme within them. And if you really dissect their albums you'll see it to be true. Though I would love to see another Farewell to Kings!!! As far as rumors....on the Test of Echo tour I heard they were to play songs from Caress of Steel. What a bust that was! Forget tour rumors...just go and enjoy whatever THEY decide!! In "The End" it will ALL kick ass!!!
No. 2112 is almost always played in some form. Caress is a "Far Cry"(I know ..lame)from that. Especially from the "Down the Tubes" tour. To have really brought some of that back would've been immeasurable to fans...and that's where the rumors left us( for those who heard it)..as just that, with disappointment.
Test, as much as I liked it was the most disappointing tour in terms of music and stage show. 2112 was great but that was it in highlight. Song selection lacked as well as overall peak.
really theyve never had a concept ALBUM theyve done conceptual songs 2112 and cygnus bks I+2 but theyve never done a full on the wall, tommy concept album
@pinkfloydrule27 They say Clockwork Angels is going to be a concept album. They said it's gonna be a two part one(still cool). Also this one is going to have an epic on it.
@Annonymus121 do your research man. Just read an interview with Nick Raskulinecz plus interview with Alex and Geddy and they both say something about it.
Respond to this video...Yea I feel most of their albums are thematic in nature. Off the top of my head, "Counterparts" is mostly about relationships. And "Roll The Bones" is mostly about mortality.
@woloschuk123 Yeah the Wal bass has a great sound but I don't think he'll pull it out again.. he have been using his Fender Jazz basses on stage since 1992 I think. Then his old Rickenbacker 4001 a few times.. I heard him in an interview talking about that he in the early 90's pulled back out his Fender because he liked the Fender-sound better.
I was at this performance. I remember as though it were a meal ago.

This is the earliest one I've found where Geddy plays out the bass at the end. Before this it's just way too flat sounding on the solo.

Lifeson's using a delay effect while playing the harmonics. Strange!!!
PS: One of the coolest songs ever

On the Test For Echo tour they did play 2112 entirely so that makes up for those rumors being false

That's the one reason I wanted to see them this time around. I only missed it because I didn't have the money.
I just hope they play it on their next tour.
