@tyler154tzr because they had to come up with a chassis code name for the gt-r and r35 went along with the tradition however they could not carry over the skyline name since it was already in use for the v36 nissan skyline.

the main reason for that time is because they spend so much trying to release a really good sounding number. when drivers republic compared they got 7:49 in the gt2 and 7:55.something in the gt-r. now this is one test but then the mother of all undeniable references tested it, sport auto. the gt2 got 7:33, while the gt-r did 7:38. both very believable when you consider the gt2 can corner, accelerate, and brake faster. oh and heres a tip 200,000-70,000 does not equal 200,000 lol.

i am fully aware of the best laps set so far lol.. the point is if you have ever driven the ring or actually know the layout of the track its obvious those times are not an accurate measure of performance. im not saying the gt2 did a faster lap im just saying it is faster in the straights, more powerful brakes and higher cornering limits.

Awesome, in GranTurismo4 I picked up the same car and try to beat the track as good as I could to compare the time (if the game really copy the reality) - my time is 7:28.295 so finally I could say that the Japanesse really done a GREAT JOB with the game!!!!! And the 2 thing. Do NOT ever compare ZR1 with GT-R because the Vette has REALLY LESS weight and has MORE BHP - this could NOT be compared!!!

actually i just found out they really overrated the performance of the tires.. the "sports" tires grip better than real racing tires! explains the 15 mph advantage the sedan had over the zr1 on the double right hander near the beggining...

@Bouchaneusmc No, I'm not wrong. Reread what I said. "Skyline" and "GT-R" are two different marques. A GT-R is not a "Skyline" -- it's a totally different model. Today's Skylines are luxury coupes and sedans nothing like the previous ones. The GT-R continues the styling and R chassis code where the R34 left off but the Skyline brand is now separate from the GT-R. Officially they are no longer connected and are two completely different marques, despite the history.

in Japan, the infinity G35 is called Nissan Skyline V35. and it has nothing to do with the R series. there never even was a GT-R version of that car

wow, zr1 had better driver?! it was faster by 2 seconds, on a very sub par lap. the gt-r had a perfect lap, if you watch the comparision on the ring and at edmunds theres proof that the zr1 handles, brakes, and accelerates better than the gtr. now, jan magnussen has done a 7:22.4 on the ring with the zr1, so you can accurately compare on the ring. the zr1 also looks like a supercar instead of a prius, sounds like a supercar, unlike the prius gt-r, and uses rwd and stickshift!

wow what tell nissan comes out with a vspec model of the gtr and it will rape the zr1 this is just the basemodle of the GTR so thats kinda sad how a base modle GTR is all most fast then the top end vette lol XD

it will rape the zr1.. i guess you could compare these to show how the v spec wont do, even with flappy paddles, tons of electronics and all that other crap that takes the soul out of a car even with a perfect run it still was seconds behind the sloppy driven zr1. heres some times for you at las vegas sppedway zr1 56.9 gt-r 58.1 (this was a high boost gt-r as well). thats quite a difference, with crappy paddles the driver had another 2 seconds to gain, AND its on run-flats.

Well, of course an over-powered rear wheel drive V8 super car is going to beat a little V6 with 4 wheel drive that has a lot less power in a straight line drag race. Then you think about the things that actually make a car good, like cornering and grip, but people need to remember that the Nissan GT-R has four seats, is reasonably comfortable AND it's affordable. Only then do you see what a great car it really is. But I do get what you mean about all the electronics making it more dull.
