Peter Frampton turned me on to Joe at the Ryman.I kind of felt bad for Peter trying to play after joe. Warren and Matt are as Good as any team out there.
After watching this, I feel greatly inspired in my own guitar playing. I''ll never be as good as either of these guys, but it's fun trying. Thanks for this.
LOL!!!! are you f*cking serious? Joe passed most guitarists ability when he was just a teenager. Don't believe me? go check out some of the bloodline videos.
God I hate youtube, why on earth did you force this guy to edit this down, what a genuine crime against music!! fantastic jam, man these guys can play, so glad im booked up for Bonamassa again later in the year, just gotta find somewhere to see these guys now...........
I believe it's either a Leslie speaker usually used for Hammond organs or a tricked our Chorus/Flanger. It sounds more like the Leslie to me. Leslies sound great with guitars, Peter Frampton uses one I believe.
Dang that's good! Sco Mule is like the most delicious pie crust and The Mule always fills it with Goodness! Joe is off the charts good. Warren is The Man. The 2 together is a treat for the ears and the brain. Thanks for posting this.
@brown877sauce Beggars shouldn't be so choosy! I had to edit it down a bit to fit under 10 mins: clipped the keys solo a bit with a somewhat clunky edit... Thought B&W would be fun... check them out on "feel like breaking up somebody's home" in color.
In my opinion that vamp sounds much more like a Santana song than anything Scofield's done. There are even some licks Warren throws in that are straight from Santana. At one point the drummer echoes the feel too
@getupanddosomething They were teasing the Santana song, at 7:20 Warren even teases smoke on the water. Mule does it all the time pretty amazing. Listen to the Sco-Mule version from the Album The Deep End : Vol 1, Scofield plays on the track, great album too.
The weeks before 11/24/09 posed a planning dilemma for me; see Mule at the Riv or Joe at the Vic. I chose to see Joe, it was an awesome show. I though he might have wanted to jam with Warren but wasn't sure he did til I heard the news the next day. I am so glad someone was able to post it here. Excellent video, thank you alanpaulchina!!
I love Warrens playing singing and writing. I worship Joe. To see what Joe is like in his own band you must get Live at the Royal Albert Hall DVD. This jam shows him off the cuff which never ceases to amaze me. Thanks Paul for filming and posting. Will look for the article when it comes out.
two artists that the second they release an album i have it that day if not the next. The third is Mr. Trucks. I could not imagine the intense feeling that crowd must have had seeing these two modern day guitar gods onstage. We can all only wish for a tour with these two, cause you know at some point in that tour Derek would end up there with them both. God we can only hope!!!
Been a fan of Joe since he was a kid and a long time follower of Warren. To see these two matched up is simply awesome!!! Yes they should tour together. If they did, every venue would be sold out months in advance!!
i hope these 2 end up touring in the near future--this is good. 2 tone junkies with excellent feel--strong jam sense. they may bring back the old days when talents like this did these type of things. radio & the industry have no musical ear at all. the mule rules, & joe does too
This is By Far the best and tightest jam I have ever Heard! The Best I have ever heard Joe, play! He was def. feeling it. That first solo Is Unbelievably fluent, fast, and tasteful!
Thanks for posting. This was the best part of the show, with Joe. Great back and forth guitars. I never heard of Joe before the show. That's why I love Mule. They jam with so many different artists. Practically every show I see or hear I find a new band or musician to check out.
No one welcomes guest jammers with arms as open as Warren and the Mule. Great way to get exposed to others. cool that you got turned on to Joe. Happy exploring!
thanks for posting this!!! my husband and i couldn't decide who to see, joe or gov't mule...we had just seen warren in july so decided on going to the vic theater to see joe!!! i would have loved to have been there to see this!! great video!
It was an odd coincidence that they were both in Chicago same night. Did not seem to hurt either -- both were sold out, or close to it. And it allowed this to happen. Joe and Warren are old friends who had not seen each other in a long, long time. Both are always working!
Alan Paul, thank you for posting the two videos. Absolutely incredible!!! My two favorite guitar players on the same stage! Wow, I don't think I could've made it through the whole song without passing out!
Alanpaulchina, thanks so much for upping these videos. My two favorite guitarists on stage together and I had to miss it, so I am forever grateful that you took the time to record and up these. It looks like Warren knew you were doing it, but didn't seem to mind. He's such a sweet man to his fans. :-)
Yep. Warren and Joe both knew I was filming. I was in the pit. I was actually there covering for Guitar World magazine. I will post onto these comments section with a date when the story will be out.
Joe is a great player. He's come a long way and is most definitely still on his way up. I think Warren's resume and abilities speak for themselves at this point. Enjoy the show.
Well, you know, beggars shouldn't be choosy... This is some glorious, FREE video of first class guitar jamming. Enjoy it.

OK, usually Bonamassa is just a young boy who will be at Warren's level in approx. 30 years, but this time, OK, I must admit : he rocks !!

Two giants on stage with one of the greatest bands to back them up.
Fantastic how Warren builds his solo with a lot of space in between until the explosion at the end.
