I saw Chicago a few times live a few years ago, in the Dawayne Bailey era and Dawayne is an extraordinary guitar player. Still, after seeing 15 concerts over the years, they put on one helluva show and are superb musicians.
I Luv Chicago but what they did or do to both Dawayne Bailey and new guy Keith, is shockin' over 3 album's and Bailey only played on 5 to 6 song's because the producer wants to use HIS guitarist! Ive heard and seen Bailey in concert and he could've been the missing link between Hendrix and Ed Van Halen,Can U imagine them telling Kath that the producer has a friend that's playing guitar on this song!!! Bailey was mainly used for his Cetera like high pitch backing vocals.
This is a great, dramatic power ballad from an album that's superior to Chicago 19, despite the latter's many hit songs. This is the first time I've seen this video since it didn't get much airplay on the local MTV channel at the time (1991).
19WANKER67, Chicago did not exist with Peter Cetera only!! Chicago have 8 members, and all do a great job. I've seen them recently live in concert and they were really great!
I read somewhere that this didn't really get attention because it was actually competing with another Chicago single for limited airplay: "Will You Still Love Me".
Chicago Twenty 1 was released in January 1991. Again, the group drew on Diane Warren for two songs, "Explain It To My Heart" and "Chasin' The Wind," and they were released as singles. But this time they did not become big hits. "Those first two singles were really nice songs," says Scheff, "but you're releasing something that you're going to try and top songs like 'Hard Habit To Break' and 'What Kind Of Man Would I Be?"
Ironically, Chicago's long-term success made radio resistant to the new music: They were competing with themselves, while their recent hits continued to be played as recurrents."
must've been overlooked, 'cos i haven't heard this one yet. BUt i love this one...alot!! Jusrt took me away and now i have to get 21. thanx for the greatness
Nice video, thanks for posting it. 21 was a really good album. The horns were back, the vocals are soft where needed, and forceful when appropriate. What Does It Take, for example. Add to that the great guitar riffs throughout the album. Definitely well put together all around.
this was my favourite song when i was 11. it's still awesome. one of the group's best vocal performances. by the way, isn't this david foster on the keys?
I love this group and I definitely agree w/ the comments about it being one of the most underrated Chicago albums(21).This C.D came out around the best year of my life and that year(91) was the year I met and lost the love of my life(Julie)!!I loved Peter Cetera too but I also really think Jason was a great replacement!!!
What a shame that this album flew under the radar. 21 has so many good songs on it and the arrangements are excellent. That idiot dressed in plaid from Seattle killed alot of artists back in the early 90's.
EVery song on that album was magnificent. God save the Queen was good, but certainly not one of the best on that album.
If It Were You, You Come To My Senses, Somebody Somewhere, Chasin' the Wind. Those songs were a lot better than God Save the Queen. Don't get me wrong, I Loved God Savev the Queen, but most of the songs on the album were better.
I never knew there was a video made for this. I never even heard this song on the radio and wondered why. I think this was the best Chicago ballad since Hard Habit to Break. Masterful combination of Dwayne's riffs and the horn section.
totally brilliant song his. It should have be been a number 1. Loads better than Look Away. I'm surprised this didn't get higher up the charts than it did. Jason looks cool with the long hair.
I couldn't agree more...it is a brilliant song, great lyrics. Nice vocal combo of Jason & Bill. It deserved to be in # 1 chart. I cannot think what other songs competed with it around that time. That might be the reason why it wasn't placed higher.
Believe it or not, the song "You Come to My Senses" from this album went into higher chart than this song in Asia. I was told that Europe & Asia appreciated Chicago Twenty-1 better than here in US. Thanks.
Chicago Twenty 1 was a fantastic album, but this is easily the worst song on it. Proof that record execs and the RIAA have no taste in anything anymore.
Haha! This is funny! I have been into Chicago since before Jason came on board, so I already knew Bill's voice. I can't imagine what it's like for you now. haha.
I totally agree with you, Lumadil. I purchased the album last weekend, and I've very glad I did. Chicago is my favorite band of all time, and this makes a great addition to my collection (I'm planning on eventually having every single Chicago album in my music library). One of my favorite tracks on 21 is "One from the heart", although I love every single song on the album.
Funny story about me buying Chicago 21, i heard samples on chicago's website and said "i had to buy this album" so i went to the local music store and boom, 1 copy on the shelf. I've gone to that music store probably about 100times since and havent seen it appear on the shelves again. Its definately a must buy. this song, Chasin' the wind, Man to woman, What does it take, and Holdin' On are great.
You should find a copy of the 2 unreleased songs from 21. "Secrets of your heart" and "Love id Forever". if you like Man to woman, you just might like them also. :)
21 is notorious for Chicago not supporting any of the songs by playing them live--- excepting one fairly controversial appearance on Arsenio with "You Come to My Senses." This song was written by Dianne Warren, who herself is a controversial songwriter (in terms of her debatable skills as a writer and go-to schlock queen). I always liked this song because of they way they did it as a *Chicago* song, with the horn break in the middle, etc.
This is one of the reasons why CHICAGO has endured for 40 years and counting! MTV and Rolling Stone need to get a clue and let the younger generations discover the TRUE talent vocally and musically that these guys posess. Chicago is truly one of maybe 3 groups that can hold thte title of Most successful music groups of all time. Congrats on 40 years of AMAZING music Robert, James, Lee, Walt, Bill, Jason, Tris, and Keith!
I agree! This is TRUE talent, way better than the music that my generation has...*shakes head* I don't like rap or R&B as much as the Soul the rock, the classic rock, alternative like Chicago...I was raised with this as a child and I even have my boyfriend hooked! And I'm only 16.
I saw Chicago a few times live a few years ago, in the Dawayne Bailey era and Dawayne is an extraordinary guitar player. Still, after seeing 15 concerts over the years, they put on one helluva show and are superb musicians.
Music videos do not do them justice.

no, this is not lamm. it's way too slick to be his playing. it doesn't sound like champlin, either. it's either foster or some other studio key pro.

The whining by Scheff in this song was really Chicago at it's worst. "Explain it to me why this song was so bad" would be a better title.

Scheff wasn't whining; he simply being expressive with the song. No, you don't have to explain it to us why you think he was whining.
