This is great. This is like the only adolescent conformity projects on YouTube. I have a 10 page paper on adolescent conformity final due in a few weeks and this gave me a better sense of understanding...and relating. lol.
@Soulplatinumsuper Thank you for the compliment. Hope you saw parts 1 and 3, they might help too. I'd be really interested to read your paper, and/or discuss the topic with you if you want, it's something I find really interesting. Inbox me if you like.
did you have to get their parents to sign a consent form in order for them to participate and film them? i am thinking of doing a similar experiment for my psyc senior project and i would like to use high school kids. since they are minors, did you need their parents permission for them to participate?
@glitter123451990 well, it's a little tricky. it partly depends on how much you know the kids, and partly on your class's requirements. officially, technically, the answer would be yes, you need permission. but in my case, the class was very relaxed, and technically i just did this "on my own", not "officially" as someone from my school. i also did this in my town, where i knew a lot of HS kids and people and stuff, so it wasn't like a "strange man filming kids" lol.
Jews always feel they are superior to whites ,why not theyve only had 100 years of brainwashing us to prove it. Thats my opinion, and I have Right to speak it.
It seems as if Doug seems to represent the attitude of most kids his age. Charlie, Max, and Nolan seem like somewhat of an outlier, in my opinion. How old is Doug now? And how is he doing compared to the rest? Do you believe nonconformist = more successful? Is that what the results show?
This experiment is amazing and extremely informative. I enjoyed watching your videos!
Arthur R Cohen's book 'Attitude Change and Social Influence' (1964) has similar experiments on 'human behavior', 'experimental psychology' etc. This is partly about getting people - no doubt goyim - to accept things like bussing of whites to black schools etc. Material on Negroes, the Korean War (minus US atrocities) etc. Foreword by Leon Festinger & Philip Zimbardo. Note the Jewish influence. No wonder they think goyim are stupid.
@Azizah2010 well they all have to give an answer; so do you mean someone who thinks that and then gives the correct answer, or someone who just like...refuses to answer? in either case though, i'd say they are more on the self-certainty side.
Even if people know they're right, they may just keep quiet and give in, surrendering their individuality in order to conform. Quite sad. What does this show about us?
ok ill PM you in a min , darwin came to the conclusion we evolved from monkeys, because back in those days people were really racist, and said black people looked like monkeys, and one day he saw a black guy and a monkey and made the link.. thats it. it was dulol minded racism. cause darwin only had average intelligence himself.
explain to me how psychic ability is not supernatural. there is no logical way of explaining it..
trust me supernatural stuff is exactly what it claims. science are wasting time by simply comming up with total unlogical answers,, unlogical cause they will just come up with any answer as long as it means it isnt supernatural.. that to me is unlogical and unscientific..
its like denying something and simply replacing it with a lie.. can you see where i am coming from.
well when you're in class and EVERYONE says the answer is A, it's only logical to assume that they've done their homework. i mean the odds of the whole class being wrong are very low. So for this reason, you can "conform" without any sort of self consciousness or other failing. Though if they say something completely absurd, you'll likely speak out
U're rite if u're unsure of the answer urself. But i think it's more of "Did those guys spotted something that I didn't?" that resulted in the conformity.
Then again, sometimes people conform to avoid trouble. For example if you agree with everyone else, u save urself the trouble of explaining why you chose a different answer. Not everybody enjoys being the centre of attraction.
you're right, and actually describing the two types of influence in these types of situations. informational influence involves our desire to be correct ("did they see something i didn't?"), and normative influence involves our desire to be accepted and liked by others (avoiding trouble). i hadn't learnt about that when i made this video, or i prolly would've talked about it
say what you think, but you'll probably be wrong, and in a case where this decision involves life or death you'll probably die.
of course you might not. the rest of the class could die instead. That's why you use all logic available, weighing how much proof you have for your answer against the odds of the class making a mistake.
This of course is more true for straightforward things like math then politics or philosophy. In that regard the majority is usually wrong.
Good sir, did you just call philosophy straightforward?
And are you implying that the majority is correct most of the time? I can think of hundreds of instances in history in which people went along with something that they didn't believe was right, for the sake of agreeing. And those sort of events destroy, kill, torture... the darker side of man, if you will, shines through when he has back-up especially.
if i did it was a mistake. i meant to say the opposite. Well, the majority may often be correct in certain situations, but in philosophy, politics, or other areas where one must independently use logic to find one answer out of millions, they're usually wrong. The majority will usually be shaped by tradition and other forces that involve no logic whatsover.
Of course, it's almost 11pm here, and there were some comments deleted.. so the point may have been lost upon me; I apologize if I misinterpreted your thoughts.
I would love to be put under this, as I think I would not fall under the pressure. The leadership I pertain gives me that confidence, and that knowledge of myself.
you know, now that you mention it, i guess from an evolutionary perspective, that statement might actually have some merit. maybe, but i dont know too much about that field
I agree with Grumbles that from an evolutionary perspective this does have merit and is probably the reason for the frequency of genocide and crimes against humanity that we see in our history and current events. Those who understand this method of conformity hold a great deal of influence over society.
In the sense that conformists live longer - conformists are also enablers to the criminals they conform to and therefore are complicit in their crimes (like those who conformed to Nazism in WW2 Germany)
very true. also, i'm thinking if you go back hundreds of thousands or millions of years, as a pure survival mechanism it may play a role. like, if you're just chillin in the sun and you see 10 other cavemen running for their lives, the ones who just sat there and waited to see what they were running from could become a meal, whereas the ones who followed with them would survive. as we evolved socially, perhaps this split into normative and informational influence. total speculation tho
yes, the purpose of the experiment was to have the rest of the group give the wrong answer, to see if the main person would follow along with them or be the only one giving the right answer. i then looked at various possible explanations for why they might have reacted the ways that they did
The great thing is that his facial experession show contempt when he says it (small lift of the corner of his mouth). Seemingly not comfortable with his own statement. The fact that his eyes move down afterwards suggests even more that he's experiencing emotions that suggest he knows he is wrong and is not sure about how he should feel deceiving himself.
yeah, but that's something that is learned usually during the adolescent stage of development. and in the vid, we see how people can be at various stages of that phase. of course, some people will not master that part of their identity development and stay following the groups
To be honest school will do that to you i remeber countless times in elementary school reciting our multiplication tables etc and the teacher would always say if everyone is wrong it is probably you. autokinetic actually inspired this one i think. it takes the ambiguity out of guessing as the lines are obvious.
