@SMGJohn I know. There were also tractor driven ones, these were not attached to the tractor itself like they are today, but rested on two wheels and was drawn after the tractor like a trailer. They were driven by the tractor's pto. Theres one sitting in a forest nearby. Anyway, I thought a backhoe was called as such because its mounted on the back of a tractor?
@KapteinOpel That's trailer excevators they are no longer produced because there is no need for them. They where made because they where heavier and needed a truck to pull them and a heavier engine
I thought a "backhoe" was always mounted on the back of a tractor, and that this is an excavator..?

@KapteinOpel This is a cable excavator. That's how they worked and looked before they put hydraulics on them

New to me. Saw cable dozers before & even helped drill a couple wells with an old cable-tool. But never a cable-hoe .... if that's what you call it.
Is back from the days when men were men & often had only 3 main bodily appendages, instead of the appropriate 4.

It almost looks two dimensional when it first pulls up. Like a cartoon.
