  • Are there any recordings of either of the Duruflés performing the complete op. 5 Suite? All I've seen at Youtube is his performance of just the Prélude. Madame may have been technically superior in her undisputed prowess, but he was in no way her inferior to toto, as she herself surely would have insisted, both being too profoundly gifted accurately to be estimated by we who are far beneath their excellence.

  • @russedav5 Sorry to say that, due to MD's dislike of his own Toccata, it was neither played or recorded by either of them. Mme D respected his wishes, although she would "teach" the piece to pupils after MD's passing.

  • @musicalhotcha

I'll bow to Monsieur's manifestly vast superiority in both performance and composition millions of light years beyond anything I could imagine; it shows 1. how much greater he and she were as musicians and 2. how great she was as a wife so graciously to be so self-effacing a wife, a rare gem.

  • What an unsung heroine the great Mme Duruflé was, always her husband's devoted self-effacing spouse even though his better at the console, how unlike today's narcissists where we only care for self and screw everyone else; how much we could learn from her profound Christ-like self-effacement.

  • Delightful playing. Reminds one of Jean Langlais' comment that this piece reminded him of two young people out on a date.......accompanined by an old maid aunt as chaperone.

  • What church is that pictured above? St. Étienne-du-Mont ?

  • The picture is of Soissons Cathedral.
