  • now that how a drum should sound!

  • sst heads suck the ring on them sheds

  • @IzzyStorm1996 i've never had any problems, although i've switched to coated g2's since

  • i love this head combination, but the die cast hoops are a little much for my taste.

  • @Ankylophobia it is quite a controlled combination, but that was the point. The quality of the shell made it resonant regardless, but i've recently changed my head choices

  • @dave90mckeague oh no doubt it's a good sound, i wasnt trying to offend you or anything. im using these clear ec2s over clear gplus heads and it sounds great.

  • @HardRocK96G1 i think these would do the job better. The pinstripes are more controlled as the edges are glued together, but they lack both body and volume.

  • this or hydraulic glass

  • shut up and hit the drum

  • Are you using a ec2 for the resonante or ec. I could hear you.

  • Is that just a snare stand holding your tom?

  • in your opinion does it have as much attack as a remo pinstripe.

  • @lolvids2 ec2 clear for sure man matt from august burns red uses them!

  • bro can you do a vid on how you tune your toms

  • Godd video but, the starcast system is is useless if your use a snare stand for your tom, we can't ear all the resonance of the tom

  • @Picman073 Its the Pearl IMS not TAMA starcast but yeah i know what you mean. Although it still has a lot of resonance. check out my video of me playing the whole kit with the ec2's on.

  • im a rock / metal drummer. Evans G2 or evans EC2 clear?

  • @lolvids2 both a great choice. but if you find yourself frequently using moongel, the ec2's are the answer. moongel is great but any sort of dampening makes drums quieter, which is never good unless you're triggering! the ec2 dampening system just takes off the unwanted overtones to leave a nice round tone with good attack!

  • @lolvids2 i dont know if you have got any heads since you posted this, but i have just got some evans hydraulics and there amazing they dont have alot of delay and they dont have any over tones, there actually quite versatile when it comes to open or closed sounding toms. try them out there great heres link for what they sound like skip to 0:46 to hear them (he also demo's g2 coated hope this helps Jjj :D

  • @lolvids2 link wouldnt work just type in dima burdin go to his channel and find (demonstration of evans hydraulics glass and g2 coated

  • sounds perfect for metal... wow i want those head,s how do you tune your drums? thanks

  • ive been thinking about getting these heads. how long or short is the resonance really? i love the sound in your video, but it seems like almost every video i watch of them the resonance changes. and i have really nice headphones.

  • @TwoKindsOfRight medium length compared with other heads. the difference is probably because of different shells and different resonant heads. These are double ply so will have more resonance at lower volumes than single ply and slightly less resonance at higher volumes.

  • @dave90mckeague do the EC resos shorten it at all?

  • wow that is the worst tone ive ever heard from a drum, you might as well have banged that stick with your bean bag!

  • @geoff1424 really? it sounds pretty good to me and 15,000 other people. have you tried good quality headphones? the resonance can't really be heard through small speakers.

  • @dave90mckeague Good point, the sustain and resonance isn't very audible I guess

  • @geoff1424 obviously you dont know what a good drum sound is...... this drum sounds bloody excellent

  • @geoff1424 I think... that you are ... high.

  • Hey man I have the Evans Resonant Black and the Evans EC2 SST's do you think this will sound good?

  • @theDRUMMERDUDE100 it should do! the resonant blacks are 10 mil i think, same as g1's. thats what i now use on my toms as resos

  • @dave90mckeague Ok thanks man after I bought them and put them on I rewatched this vid and kind of wanted to return them but your opinion is awesome so I trust you!

  • Are those ripple looking lines in between the two ring hole?

  • @fobrock22 its like a little mesh-web. Works really well, better than the old ec2's.

  • Nice heads! Have them on my toms. They're easy to tune and have lots of attack without annoying overtones.

  • beatiful sound, a kind of sound of the gavin harrison drums !!!

  • sounds kinda flat to me...I was thinking of re-skinning my toms with these heads but now i'm second guessing....

  • @gallupi1965 check out my full-kit demo vid. They may seem a little dead, but this is an 8" tom with an ec reso which will choke the drum slightly. Also, if you listen to this vid through good headphones you'll hear that nice signature sustain-attack balance that these heads are known for.

  • @dave90mckeague Yeah.....soon after I posted this comment, I checked out your other vid and they did sound pretty good!

  • you should tune the top head higher! it's an 8 inch damn!

  • @Nickdrummer142 i like it low! It sounds way to Timbale-esque tuned high, and i'm not Neil Peart.

  • @dave90mckeague i don't mean like neil peart but i think it must be tuned a little higher!

  • @Nickdrummer142 sound fine to me!

  • My god I love that finish!

  • @rollerghost615 indeed!!!! i wish i owned a whole kit like this but infortunately i'm not a millionaire!!!

this tom sounds great but i'm trying to sell it just for more cymbal money haha!!!

  • is the sst on the bottom or top?

  • @DWdrummer57 top, the bottom head is an ec reso, although i've recently switched it for a g1

  • hey do u recommend these drum heads?

  • @MrStockholmz ofcourse! best sounding (and feeling) heads ever!

  • @dave90mckeague just got the heads! and they sound amazing along with the emad 2 and an ec rev dot on the snare

  • @MrStockholmz Do they sound good?? because im thinking of getting all those heads

  • @XsitogrinderX yes i recomend them! they sound amazzing!

  • i Have Clear Evans EC2 SST over a Evans Genera Resonant with 1 moongel....it sounds like Jesus

  • @OfficialKaelenCanady Ec2 dampens sound, Genera Resonant ironically has the least resonance of any resonant head I have ever used, and moongel dampens sound. Seems like you have one dead sounding tom there.

  • @inimicalODDITY No It is not dead or even close to dead , I will Post Vid Tomorrow on my kit

  • Pearl Masterworks > DW

  • @OfficialKaelenCanady in my eyes, most other pro end models are better than dw's.

  • @dave90mckeague Now dont get Me Wrong Dw's are Real Great Drums , But I think Pearl Masterworks is Wayy Worth The Money !

  • @dave90mckeague DUDE nothing against Pearl but listen to a DW Classics series kit

  • Eargasm!

  • I'd love to hear coated g2 over clear g1 on that gorgeous, gorgeous drum!

  • @danlc95 ill see what i can do!

glad you like it. check out my full kit demo using the ec2's.

  • A few questions.

Is that the cameras mic, or did you hook a mic up to it?

Does the camera record cymbals well?

    What camera is it?

  • @ThAustinYagleProject haha

yeah the camera has 2 integrated condenser microphones.

it records cymbals extremely well, check my other videos (of cymbals)

    its the zoom q3!

  • @dave90mckeague Thank you so much!!

  • @ben13drummer in this video its an Evans EC-reso. Although i've recently switched all my reso's to G1's.

  • i just brought mines today 8,10 and 16 cant wait for that sound

  • Sound soooo good I been looking for some heads thy have body and fullness thanks. Drums4life peace

  • those are great for the money but i prefer remo pinstripes but i will use the sst's any day

  • VERY nice masterworks drum with the black hardware... you gotta live for drums to put out the kind of cash for a masterworks drumset.

  • holy crap. :O i wana get some of those for my floor tom and my other toms for that matter.

  • @KyleBlock2142 yeah they're especially good on larger toms, makes them sound like thunder! lol

  • @dave90mckeague lol thanks i surly will get some

  • Out of interest, what's the resonant head on the tom you're using?

  • @danphoenixfire on this one it is an evans ec reso, although i will soon be swapping it for a g1. The ec reso/sst combo on the smaller drums can choke if the drum drops tension even slightly while playing, although this is a rare occurence id rather be on the safe side and stick with a g1! my 10" uses an sst over a g1 for this exact reason whereas on my 12 and 14, i've stuck with a ec reso.

  • I had a really bad problem with wrinkling when I got these today. Getting help with that tomorrow.

  • that sounds awesome man! Are there specific notes that drums should be tuned to?

  • @AvengedSevenfoldDrum not necessarily, but having a note as a reference point for each drum makes tuning the drum a lot easier, because you already know what you want it to sound like, to a degree... if that made any sense

  • Comment removed

  • the finish is a very nice finish. was that custom?

  • i play pearl but i dont play evans...remo is the way to go =]

  • @psalm6teen bullshit. go die

  • @Charlestonthedrummer haha, indeed!!! lol

  • how did you tune it to get that sound?

  • I have one last question. I am using a 13" tom as a floor tom, so I've heard that these heads have good low-end and a large tuning range, so you can tune a drum really high or really low without it losing its character. Do you think these heads will give my 13" tom the low-end growl of a floor tom with out losing its character?

  • @Mattsvids101 no probs, yeah you can get a really fat low sounds with these heads. any two plies will no doubt do the job though. however a 13" will never sound as low-end-y as a 16" or 18", specially if its not that deep.

    but these heads should help!!!

  • @dave90mckeague Thanks, I was more trying to relate it to a 14" tom and thanks for all your help.

  • @Mattsvids101 One of my kits is a jungle kit conversion (14" snare, 12" & 13" toms, 16" kick) and I've managed to tune both the toms and kick quite low by improvising powerstroke heads. Cut an old resonant head front the rim and cut out a circle an inch or two from the edge... slot that between the drum shell and a new batter head. Adds weight, lowers pitch, cuts the decay, less over tones... works really well live in my metal band. Not sure about recording however, but an idea.

  • @bryanthecomposer Thanks, that's a great idea. Really appreciate your help.

    Matt

  • @Mattsvids101 Evans G2 coated will probably do an even better job for getting that low. Clear heads then to have more attack and high-end than coated. Although these heads still get pretty low I have them and I love them

  • @drumsrule786 Ok, thanks

  • thanks for the demo mate, its the most comprehensive demo ive seen on the net, which is just what I need for the detail i want haha cheers man

  • haha anything sounds good on a masterworks. yeah i tryed these heads they're pretty good, but a little too much dampening, so i switched to aquarian coated response twos

  • play the fukkin heads already!!! no jk

  • haha might sound a little flat... its only flat.. tighten it a little or use a bigger tom.. no one wants to hear a 8x8 no offense.. liger toms are what most ppl have so it would help with larger tom

  • @masterdrummer19

i wanted to show what the ec2 sst's do. they add focus, control and resonance to the tom and between my toms this one really showed off the sound the most when recorded. I'm not saying the head is only good on an 8", just that this being a masterworks tom, it just demonstrated the head better than my others. if you want to hear bigger toms, check out my other vids (funk/swing solo). and i like the tom tuned lower, its just my preference.

    thanks for watching!

  • They say the black "linker" between the two rings flake off and fall, got that problem?

  • @Salzcamino i havent had a problem with them up to knoe, and i've been using them for quite a while. no one i know who has the heads has had problems and evans havnt issued a recall. unless there was just a bad batch or somethinh, maybe people are just abusing the heads lol!

  • @dave90mckeague haha! Yeah, maybe :P. Would you recommend them for a basswood drum kit? Much overtones, and a big open sound. I'm looking for a bit of a shorter sustain from them. I think I want coated heads for my toms, for a bit of a shorter sustain and a warmer sound. But sometimes I like a focused sound... Any recommendations?

  • @Salzcamino coated heads will defo do the trick. The ec2 coateds are good but some g2's might just do the job. basswood shells are usually difficult to gauge as cheaper kits can sometimes have badly made bearing edges which means no matter which head you choose, they still won;t sound amazing. but if they're well made shells, try out some g2's with g1 reso's. should do the job!!!

  • @dave90mckeague Well thanks dude, good advice! So coated G2's on top and clear G1's? Sounds good :)

  • @Salzcamino that's what i would say. it's been a winning combination for years. i just think for basswood shells the ec2;s might choke them a bit. or if you want a bit more attack and brightness, check out the Gplus coated heads for batters. its all personal choice really.

  • @dave90mckeague Definitely all about prefrence. If I learned ANYTHING from being online its that 999/1000 people might say a DW Collectors kit is a great sounding kit, but you can find that one person that says a PDP X7 sounds better. Thats the beauty in drums :)

Anyways, thanks for the advice, I think I'll try the G2 Coated over G1 clears. Sounds good :)

  • Yeah if you pause it at 1:30 or around there if you look at the north-east side of the drum ( right to the evans logo ) you can see wrinkles

  • Do they sound similar to Remo pinstripes?

  • @Mattsvids101 similar yes as they have the same principle behind them (more or less). but iv used pinstripes before and they don't hold tone at all compared to these ones. plus the SST on these heads really outdoes pinstripes.

  • @dave90mckeague: Thanks, these heads are sounding pretty good, I think these are going to be my next heads.

  • @Mattsvids101 good choice! theyre only slightly more expensive than pinstripes, and worth it imo. try them out with the ec reso's if you'r'e wanting to replace them too.

  • @dave90mckeague Thanks heaps for your help.

  • The Q3 is brilliant isn't it, i record my videos with it too. The tom sounds good.

  • not to alarm you but you have wrinkles on the side there, thats bad

  • i don't notice any, and if there are any they're small enough not to make the sound worse!

and aslong as it sounds good, it doesnt matter if theres any tiny wrinkles in

  • @dave90mckeague

but you can ruin the head, and the hoop as well i think since there is uneven tension

  • yeah it can defo ruin the head, but die cast hoops will take a lot of punishment!!!

and i tune the heads before every time is use it, obviously this time though i was just slightly out! like i said i like to tune the drum just above biting point to get a nice low pitched tone and one of the lugs must have been just a tiny bit too loose.

  • Wow it sounds great, would you mind telling me or even better, making a video on how to tune them, because i really like the way you're tom sounds. :)

  • hey man thanks a lot! i will put a vid up but in the mean-time this is what i do:

turn each lug by hand till it bites,

tune each lug up to the same pitch then drop that pitch to the lowest note the drum can handle without choking.

then i tune the top head to the EXACT SAME pitch.

sometimes you have to tune the drum up slightly or you get a pit of a 'flappy, papery' sound as its tuned too low, but i like fat toms, and the ec reso helps keep the tone low down lol!

  • I want 2 get ur opinion on a drum kit.

Its the Ddrum dominion maple duofade 6-piece, and i want 2 know if u know anything about it and i its worth getting, or getting someing else, any recomendations would be good, cheers.

  • yeah they're great kits! i think the bass drums are undrilled too which is obviously a plus! also, you get die cast hoops on all the drums which is good for controlling overtones on the toms.

basically if you're wanting a good mid range kit you need to go with maple. i mean birch has its place but for an all round great sound, it has to be maple (which the ddrum is).

other kits would be the pacific M5 (which has the pedigree of DW behind it) and the mapex meridian maple

  • Are you using a mic or is this what it actually sounds like? O_o

  • im using the mics integrated into the zoom q3. they are two condensers arranged in an 'x,y' coincidental pairing.

i just change the gain level before i hit the drum to accommodate both my speech and the drum! and yeah, it sounds awesome!

  • Ok lol. I don't know much about that fancy mic stuff. Sounds very goooood. Hopefully it'll sound almost as good on my birch shells xD

  • this would have a longer sustain if he put the tom on a tom arm instead of a stand. If you want sustain, then go for a remo ambassador or emperor. Anything thin and clear. Sustain also has a lot to do with the resonant head.

  • i got better results for this on a snare stand, if i had the optimount then i think that would've been better but the IMS isn't exactly great!

and i've tried both ambassadors and emperors of which i only liked emperors (and coated at that). They're great heads but for me the ec2's do it every time. i've had more resonance with the ec2/ec reso combo than with any remo coupling i'd previously tried. (and that's a lot!)

but again, its all personal preference, and evans works for me

  • what would have a deeper sound and a longer sustain: my yamaha 20 mil stock gigmaker reso heads or a gplus coated?

  • if the gigmakers are 1 ply probably those, although they won't be as well made as the g plus heads so its hard to tell. also you'd get a shorter sustain with coated reso's compared to clear reso's (if only slightly!)

  • hey dude i have the onyx drumheads for my toms and they kick ass! they have a punchy deep dark sound but the problem is the stock yamaha reso heads that i'm currently using cuz they have a lot of ring and they reduce the deep sound so do you think using a Gplus coated head as a reso would help?

PS: i would have liked to by ec2 sst coated but i can't find any =( please reply

  • well defo get rid of those stock reso's, the thinner the reso head the higher pitched the overtones and the shorter and thinner the sustain! (check bob gatzen on youtube)for more info.

the gplus coated will probably be a bit too thick for general application but if you're looking fore that really controlled sound they might be worth a try. id try one on one of your toms first before you splash out on a whole set tho!

The ec resos are great too, and will probs be just as good to get that sound.

  • i think im in love.

  • i am really unsure about these heads. I currently have g2 clears with g1 clear reso. Iike em, but they need alot of dampening (i play metal and hard rock). I was looking to get new ones, but i cant deside between these, the onyx 2-ply or the g2 coated head. Plz help!

  • these heads are extremely resonant so probs wont be best if you want that dead sound. if you listen to my kit vids with headphones you can hear how resonant they are. The edge control doesnt dampen the head, it merely reduces overtones to leave one, focussed tone.

i would defo go with the onyx 2-plies. Theyre much less lively. plus, you get that 'look' !

  • I have these on my gretsch 7 ply maple's and I just can't get a sound that I like out of them... I am having huge overtone issues... I am using just a regular resonant head nothing special but I have them tuned together and everything...they are VERY loud though wich is ok I just wish I could figure my overtone issue out

  • what are the dimensions of the drums and how are they mounted? Both these factors can influence how head reacts. Also i would try a thicker reso head (10 mil). The thicker reso head gives a lower pitch and a longer sustain whilst also minimising high end overtones. The evans ec-reso further develops on the 10 mil reso head by adding a control ring. I suggest you try one on your middle tom and see how it sounds before shelling out for a whole set. PS, check out Bob Gatzen on youtube re this

  • Yea I use bob for most of my tips, but I just can't seem to get these under control. I need to look but I think my reso's are just classic clears

  • im loving the sound, what are u using for resonans head?

  • its an evans ec resonant head. they prolong sustain and enhance tone better than any other reso head iv tried.

  • i want these so bad but i dont have any money

  • How did you tune it to a specific pitch ? ^^

  • well there's plenty of methods on tuning drums (i recommend Bob Gatzen's youtube page for comprehensive vids)

but i simply tune each head to the same pitch (by tuning the heads at each lug) and then tune them up or down the same amount till the desired overall pitch it required.

ill put a vid up about it soon enough!

  • sweet I love em. Got one on my 12

  • good to hear, i use them on my 8, 12 and 14. they work really well with the EC reso's

ill get some vids of the whole kit up soon
