Suffering has a way of tenderizing the heart towards things that are the more important in life.....such as love, and those you are fond of, like family, friends, animals.even strangers.
When God is like a friend (which is true), naturally God is included.
People who disregard faith in God out-of-hand, are simply ignorant.
On the flip side of the coin, some would argue that a life of suffering weakens some people in mind and spirit, to the point that they can no longer find strength within themselves and therefore must seek it in a spiritual experience - whichever form that takes.
There are a variety of responses to 'suffering', some I might not even know of yet. Recently, I heard the interviews with Svali, in which she explains such a complete disconnect, as to develop a split personality (or several). I wouldn't want to argue it, unless yours and my definitions of mind, sprit, ego were clearly understood. I agree w/ Justin that at our core, we are unconditional love and cannot be moved (spirit). So, if one feels utterly broken, then I think it's their ego 'suffering'.
Encouragement from others is also a way to renu strength. If the person is spiritual that is fine. Work with and through that. But how would spirituality work with a non-spiritual person?

There are a variety of responses to 'suffering', some I might not even know of yet. Recently, I heard the interviews with Svali, in which she explains such a complete disconnect, as to develop a split personality (or several). I wouldn't want to argue it, unless yours and my definitions of mind, sprit, ego were clearly understood. I agree w/ Justin that at our core, we are unconditional love and cannot be moved (spirit). So, if one feels utterly broken, then I think it's their ego 'suffering'.

mozideho, he's just talking about opposites in life and how without understanding one we can't know the other. Going through sadness makes you appreciate joy even more. Seeing evil, makes you want to run towards the good. It's just the rule of opposites. Enigma is largely misunderstood but they are essentially a religious, mystical band, hence the name.
