Winning championships is a mix of your own hard work and talent, the team office aggressively surrounding you with quality players - whether other all-stars or the necessary role players, how well you match up against other teams of your era, and luck.
1. There's no denying the talent of either, but if you look at how their numbers compare to each other when they've played each other, TD has historically been outmatched by KG. This is all pre-injury for KG and having joined Boston... which leads us on to the second point.

There is no debate bw who is the greatest power forward of all time- Parker & Ginobli wouldn't even be where they are if it wasn't for Duncan. The closing game of the finals Parker had to be benched for Speedy Claxton. Ring # 3 had Horry stepping up huge while the rest struggled. 2007 Parker shined bc they played against the cavs. Look at Parker & Ginobli know at their primes- they can't even produce consistently against the grizzlies.

yea duncans personality is great, im a lakers fan but i moved to san antonio. and i go to alot of the games, and from the warm ups to the end of the game he has a look on his face like hes falling in love again, he has much love for basketball. he goes out and haves fun. he plays cuz he loves the game, hes not a show boater, or has a bad personality, he goes to this place called Grant St. pizza and i see him there alot and he doesnt take in all the attention, he loves people, and i respect him

when Tim Duncan was drafted into the NBA, he had great mentors like DAvid Robinson to teach him and also he had alot of experience playing in college. on the other hand when Kevin Garnett came to the league he was only 17or 18 years old and came straight from high school and he also didnt have legends like DAvid Robinson who could assist them in their career like Duncan had. Both are great players but i would have to say KG is the player and a leader all around.
To kglSF and NR92CP, Kg is an all time great player and i respect your opinions, but seriously, KG falls under that unselfish to a fault category kind of player, he doesn't have the guts to make some of the playoff plays Duncan has made in his career, and btw, i don't think ginobili and parker would of developed into the great players they are today under the guidance of KG, but like i said, i respect him alot and as a spurs fan, i am looking forward to seeing KG and the celtics in the finals

I love Tim Duncan, I think he's a fabulous player, a great person, and I have the utmost respect for him. However, as a player, I honestly and truly feel that KG is a more well-rounded player. When you look at what he does in the post, combined with his sharpshooting and athleticism, I think KG has the edge. Obviously that's my opinion and there are those who will disagree, but Duncan is still great. His championships speak for themself.

Although they are very different players, Duncan is probably Russells truest heir, as a big man who has used his ability and intelligence for the benifit of his team, rather than looking for personal glory.
It has paid off, as it should do.
The Spurs have won championships and Duncan will be remembered as one of the best ever by true basketball fans.

It is normal to have that dilemma bevcause they are probably the 2 best forwards ever.Tim is more of a Center/Power Forward but KG is Power Forward/Shooting Forward.Duncan knows how to win but we haven't seen Garnett in good teams like the Celtics the years before.

I dont know about guards its a close call but Rod didnt care he did what his team needed him to do, and did it well. Duncan is the best PF in teh league and has amazing controll and understands his roll..
Dwight howard..Hes capable of scoring 40 every game but he realizes he has a shooting team. Give him 2 more years and he'll be butting up those 15-18 rebound a game seasons.
Tim Duncan is a role model. Well spoken and a great sense of humor. Same goes for Bill Russell obviously. I wish I can say the same thing about the majority of the players in the league today who can't even put together a sentence properly. I'd like to see David Stern holding compulsory english classes. tim duncan is more of a complete player if you compare him to barkley and malone . malone and barkley were great offensive players and rebounders beside that they never were considered as great defenders throughout their career like tim duncan. duncan play without alot of post moves and fundamental , is a better defensive player , rookie of the year , 4 time champion, 3 time final mvp and 2 time mvp.

Omg. Duncan aint the greatest PF of all time, are you fuckin serious. Barkley and Karl Malone were the best PFs of the 90s and probably the best ever. Duncan may be No.3 overall. And don't come to me with shit comments like "they haven't won the ring". Maybe because in their prime time there was mainly an obstacle called CHICAGO BULLS - best team ever. Spurs generally had no tough opponent in their Finals appereances, maybe Pistons in '05 but that's it. In today's league anyone can win a ring.

Your logic is "he has 4 rings, 3 finals mvps and 2 mvps". that's true. but does that make him greater than k.malone or barkley? anyway, what makes a player great? the fact that he dominates and cant be stopped. duncan puts up stats but he doesnt dominate. yea duncans personality is great, im a lakers fan but i moved to san antonio. and i go to alot of the games, and from the warm ups to the end of the game he has a look on his face like hes falling in love again, he has much love for basketball. he goes out and haves fun. he plays cuz he loves the game, hes not a show boater, or has a bad personality, he goes to this place called Grant St. pizza and i see him there alot and he doesnt take in all the attention, he loves people, and i respect him

when Tim Duncan was drafted into the NBA, he had great mentors like DAvid Robinson to teach him and also he had alot of experience playing in college. on the other hand when Kevin Garnett came to the league he was only 17or 18 years old and came straight from high school and he also didnt have legends like DAvid Robinson who could assist them in their career like Duncan had. Both are great players but i would have to say KG is the player and a leader all around.

To kglSF and NR92CP, Kg is an all time great player and i respect your opinions, but seriously, KG falls under that unselfish to a fault category kind of player, he doesn't have the guts to make some of the playoff plays Duncan has made in his career, and btw, i don't think ginobili and parker would of developed into the great players they are today under the guidance of KG, but like i said, i respect him alot and as a spurs fan, i am looking forward to seeing KG and the celtics in the finals

I love Tim Duncan, I think he's a fabulous player, a great person, and I have the utmost respect for him. However, as a player, I honestly and truly feel that KG is a more well-rounded player. When you look at what he does in the post, combined with his sharpshooting and athleticism, I think KG has the edge. Obviously that's my opinion and there are those who will disagree, but Duncan is still great. His championships speak for themself.

A true meeting of minds.
Although they are very different players, Duncan is probably Russells truest heir, as a big man who has used his ability and intelligence for the benifit of his team, rather than looking for personal glory.
It has paid off, as it should do.
The Spurs have won championships and Duncan will be remembered as one of the best ever by true basketball fans.
Long after flashier, flavour of the month, type players have been forgotten.

I think Garnett's more versatile but Duncan is more dominant at what he does, especially since he has more of a post game than KG. Both are great.

It is normal to have that dilemma bevcause they are probably the 2 best forwards ever.Tim is more of a Center/Power Forward but KG is Power Forward/Shooting Forward.Duncan knows how to win but we haven't seen Garnett in good teams like the Celtics the years before.

I dont know about guards its a close call but Rod didnt care he did what his team needed him to do, and did it well. Duncan is the best PF in teh league and has amazing controll and understands his roll..
Dwight howard..Hes capable of scoring 40 every game but he realizes he has a shooting team. Give him 2 more years and he'll be butting up those 15-18 rebound a game seasons.

Tim Duncan is a role model. Well spoken and a great sense of humor. Same goes for Bill Russell obviously. I wish I can say the same thing about the majority of the players in the league today who can't even put together a sentence properly. I'd like to see David Stern holding compulsory english classes. If you don't go you get fined. I mean come on, if your native language is english and you can't use it correctly then I don't know what to say.

tim duncan is more of a complete player if you compare him to barkley and malone . malone and barkley were great offensive players and rebounders beside that they never were considered as great defenders throughout their career like tim duncan. duncan play without alot of post moves and fundamental , is a better defensive player , rookie of the year , 4 time champion, 3 time final mvp and 2 time mvp.

Omg. Duncan aint the greatest PF of all time, are you fuckin serious. Barkley and Karl Malone were the best PFs of the 90s and probably the best ever. Duncan may be No.3 overall. And don't come to me with shit comments like "they haven't won the ring". Maybe because in their prime time there was mainly an obstacle called CHICAGO BULLS - best team ever. Spurs generally had no tough opponent in their Finals appereances, maybe Pistons in '05 but that's it. In today's league anyone can win a ring.

Your logic is "he has 4 rings, 3 finals mvps and 2 mvps". that's true. but does that make him greater than k.malone or barkley? anyway, what makes a player great? the fact that he dominates and cant be stopped. duncan puts up stats but he doesnt dominate. Barkley, fuck, that man couldn't be stopped. At only, what, 6-5 height, he dominated the league, played games like 44pts and 24 rebs against Sonics in '93?

Barkley was an amazing player who had the misfortune to play in the NBA when it was just stacked with talent. But, Duncan did his share of dominating in his career ... his MVP seasons statistically match up well with any PF season in history. Not saying one is better than the other, but it's fun to argue ... these are the best PFs of all time
