I think it's just that people see a really good film that's in a different language and feel the need to recreate it in their own language so that people in their country can enjoy what people in the other country enjoyed.

I am personally glad for one of the remakes, because I never would have thought to start watching Asian films or shows.

But it is sad that the remakes are generally not as good. Or that the original doesn't get as much credit as it deserves.
