  • pshh, I wouldn't eat that nasty looking sandwich even if I didn't have an eating disorder.

  • That's one of the reasons I do it...is for attention.

  • @LadieWebster its a good thing you're actually admitting it! tbh, mee too, i think some people just dont like to admit that is one of the reasons, but it probably is they just dont realise

  • lol. falling down the stairs. Almost happened to me, usually i just get really weak, and it takes me 10 minutes to walk up them :o

  • Really Starving for attention????

  • I've only read a few of your comments but it seems few of you bothered to read her opening statement. She clearly states that this film is supposed to span several weeks. Her actor didn't collapse after missing just one meal but several. I do agree tho with one comment, that if it were me, after tossing the sandwich, I would have taken out trash. I wouldn't have left it to be discovered.

  • Yeah...no.

  • OMGOSH I would NEVER throw my food in a trash bin at home. there's the toilet and the garbage disposal and trash bins out of the house, but NEVER just the regular bin. your parents will find out if you get careless like that.

  • am i the only one who thinks that kanye west has no place in this vid? the song sounds wayy too optimistic. also expecting to loose inches after a few push ups is crazy. nice try with the vid though. it is hard to understand a disease fully if you've never had it.

  • To all the people freaking out because this video "misrepresents anorexia": I'm sorry, but the video creator doesn't owe anything to anyone. She created this in the ninth grade and wasn't claiming this as the go-to video for anorexia education. Calm down and worry about something else, such as how to heal yourselves--maybe then you wouldn't be so angry

  • You guys are being such bitches, god damn.

You expect a girl who has never had Anorexia/Bulimia to know every little detail about it? To know every fucking thing that an anorexic does to be thin? I personally think it was an awesome video.

I'm an Anorexic, and I do think this video was very emotional, and she put a very good effort into trying to make it.

    You guys are cruel.

    Fuckin' a..

  • If you want to make a moving film, make it about something you know. This isn't at all what eating disorders are like. They are progressive; they don't begin as obsessions, and they don't start because you once saw a picture in a magazine. The title is taken from a classic book, but your character doesn't ever show a desire for attention. You should have done a film on something you cared deeply about, something personal. This is just silly.

  • @nicosiacat agreed. imagine collapsing after only throwing out one meal and doing a little running and some push ups. not realistic.

  • i know half the people who've commented already said this. but starving for attention? wtf? most people don't starve themselves for attention. just saying.

  • Hahaha

I was going to shit all over you, but a ton of other people already did so in a myriad of ways.

Film academy? Seriously? This looks like something kids make in 9th grade english class as an alternative to writing their final paper.

  • i like the video and the attempt at trying to explain an eating disorder, but trust me, you were not close. Good try though.

  • this is a joke_are you actually taking the piss out of a life threatening condition?? you should be embarrassed

  • honestly i dont see anything wrong with the video and i dont find it offensive i was bulimic for two years and i find this video being able to show girls that are young and old and some boys that it is a very dangerous thing to deal with

  • you went to the new york film academy and spent all your money and made THIS?

  • This is hideously offensive. i think you should have done more research on the triggers and different factors that cause anorexia.

  • its really not attention we are looking for its more we want to have the body of our dreams and people like me the only way we can get that is by not eatin the most i eat daly is sunflower seeds thats it and i dont want attention i just want to fit my clothes and not have to look in the mirror and feel like a fat ugly beast

  • Yeah I agree with pretty much everyone who's commented. Starving for attention? Honestly, I starve myself because I want to disappear. Not be seen.

And most girls aren't pressured into being thin by their friends, or reading a stupid magazine. It goes much, much deeper than that.

In all truth, the video wasn't very well done either. The lighting sucks, the sound quality sucks, the songs aren't very good, and the shots are done wrong.

    I don't know, I'm just really offended.

  • starving for attention... I am offended

  • i would rather call it starving for perfection or something

  • I think you did an excellent job on the film it's self, but anorexia has so much more to it then food. And Starving for attention is a horrible title. Is that what you think of us? That we starve our bodies or puke our food for attention? You have got it so very wrong. If we wanted attention we could get obscene tattos across our forheads where everyone would give us their attention. It's not that simple.............

  • how many people* whoops :)

  • the only people that starve for attention are "Wannarexics" who just want to see how people people actually give a shit if they skip a meal or something. the people who truly suffer from this disease, begin it because they want a sense of control in their life. that everything around them is hectic and she just wants to feel better about herself. not to please others, but herself. as it grows..and gets worse..they begin to hate it. because they no longer have control of it, but it controls them.

  • The title is very offensive.

  • Actually, a lot of people DO starve for attention--it's just very subconscious. They aren't in control of their lives. Parents care more about themselves than their children. They aren't giving their children the care or help they need. An eating disorder develops. The title's not offensive--it's a word play.

  • a ducky pro-duck-tion .. really now ?? thats stupid a.f ...

  • fo real creator, do your research first before making videos..this is bullshit, maybe 1% turn anorexic just for looks, the other 99% is from emotional problems, depression, abuse ect ect

  • THIS IS OFFENSIVE. Girls dont starve for attention.... you troll!

  • that chick is HOTT, why is she stressing?

  • hey, what is the classical song playing towards the end of the video?

  • eating disorders do not work like that

  • wtf is this?

eating disorders aren't anything like this

    this is an offensive video

  • @FoxbursTaisce sometimes they are

  • @FoxbursTaisce It's refreshing to me to that only 25 of the 73.5k people who have viewed this young woman's film agreed with your offensive & ignorant comments. Perhaps, the 26 of you are offended because a 14 yr old young woman attending a NY film school created a film that portrayed a ray of hope that at least one teen would be discovered & helped BEFORE her dieting & exercise turned into a tragic eating disorder. The shame of your remarks rests upon you and your 25 followers.

  • @FoxbursTaisce all eating dissorders are different. somebody may actually have it like this.

  • guys, the title is actually clever. There's two meanings to this, if you guys don't get it, i suggest not commenting with complaints if you don't even know what It means. xD

  • @CanAkane obviously you don't understand eating disorders at all...

  • the title is very offending to those with the disease

  • not bad.

  • are you a senior in the NYFA?

  • I dont really like it but it was very creative tho!

  • Yeah seriously....the title isn't offending. everyone's too goddamn sensitive.

  • omg this is exactly what i do..

  • Her friends didn't really pressure her, they called a tubby girl fat.

  • Only a rare percentage of people starve for attention. Anorexia & Bulimia are not attention seeking illnesses. They are illnesses caused by extreme anguish, pain & need for control. It is extremely dangerous, lethal & sheer hell to deal with. It has the highest mortality rate in all mental health illnesses. It's not attention seeking. It's just like Cancer, an illness unable to be controlled.

  • @MyLifeMyEverything92 but for some it is for attention. A lot of girls that are blaming their parents for divorcing will starve themselves intentionally hoping that, that will cause their parents guilt and they will see how sick their daughter is and get back together

  • ya not really realistic about an eating disorder and the title is offensive.

  • all the mayo in the sandwich, i understand

  • Nice video!

  • i dont think the title is very empathetic , people dont choose to have an eating dissorder it is usually the result of lack of controll over tough sittuations or a way of cover powerful difficult feelings

  • wouldnt someone notice the sandwich in the trash?

  • I'm sorry but your impression of an eating disorder was terrible, I'm not sure if you got help from a sufferer or if you were to scared to show what happens in the nature of the illness but its hell, its notabout magazines or weight its about whats going on in the sufferers life, the food is a means of control

  • No one sits in a group reading magazines//

  • @TheFactsRIn me an dmy mates do the gossip mags:L but we share though lol

  • @TheFactsRIn Beg to differ; my friends & I do it in class during breaks. lol

  • i dont think you know what anorexia truly is, theres a much deeper level to it then just, starving and exercising,

  • The video itself wasn't that bad, although the title was a little offensive, and there was no sign of the deeper issues that cause anorexia...abuse, depression, PTSD. As for the measuring tape in the trash, it makes it seem as if recovery is just as simple as throwing the obsession away. It's far from that.

And anorexia usually isn't about looks, and actually has much less to do with with weight and food than people think. It's just a way of projecting and coping with anxiety or other feelings

  • Comment removed

  • i didnt think it was that realistic or good. :( sorry

the ideal was nice but her acing killed it.

  • i should call it, starving for perfection.. that's what the most do ( i know..)

  • some people dont starve for attention. nobody should harm themselves for attention.

  • the title is offensive, at least i found it to be. it's not for attention, its for ourselves.

  • change the title, its rude.

  • HOW IN THE HELL CAN ANYONE THINK THIS IS ATTRACTIVE?!?!? ANOREXIC PEOPLE ARE DISGUSTING!!! If you think that being that skinny is going to make anyone think you are beautiful, you are wrong! The ONLY people who think it is attractive are other sick-ass mofos like you. There are people in the world that would kill for a decent meal and you sick bastards act like eating is a bad thing? I hope you all starve to death.

  • @iktomi22 people like you sicken me.

  • @EMILY683 People like ME sicken you?!? You mean NORMAL people? You SHOULD be sickened by the thought of looking like a skeleton. I have NEVER seen a woman who became more attractive because you could see her ribs. That is one of the most sickening things on Earth. I would rather eat a dog turd than make out with an anorexic chick, and most guys would agree. IT DOESN'T MAKE YOU LOOK GOOD, IT MAKES YOU LOOK NASTY AND DISGUSTING!!! That's why it is a "disorder", because it's not normal or healthy.

  • @iktomi22

she probably meant your character. Telling people to starve to death isnt a really good way to tell them that they should focus on a healthy weight and not starve themselves, asshole. And before you go yelling at me calling me everything in the book, no i am not anorexic, i am naturally skinny. Im not defending their ways, or yours. You are wrong though for assessing the issue like that though.

  • @RandomChelseaxX First, I didn't TELL anyone to starve to death, I said that I HOPE they starve to death, reread the post. I was giving my opinion on the subject and there is nothing wrong with my doing so. If you don't want my opinion, don't make the video public or disable comments. And just because you disagree with how I "assessed the issue", that doesn't mean that I am wrong in doing so. Sometimes people need to hear the truth without being coddled. Political correctness hurts too...

  • @iktomi22

Im well aware that sometimes people need to hear the truth. But telling them that you hope they all die, is a bit extreme. You're only making matters worse.

  • @RandomChelseaxX I don't think it can get much worse than starving yourself because you can't control your "feelings" or just to get people to feel sorry for you.

  • @iktomi22 Well sometimes thats a psychological issue, some kind of chemical imbalance in the brain (AND NO, IM NOT SAYING THAT IF YOU HAVE AN EATING DISORDER YOU HAVE A ISSUE WITH YOUR BRAIN). SOMETIMES, that is the case. Other times people just have self confidence issues, etc. In those cases, id reccomend going to some sort of group therapy.

  • @RandomChelseaxX I think we should ship them to Somalia without any money so they can have a reason to have low self confidence and a reason to starve.

  • @iktomi22 O_O, maybe we should ship you to somalia. Then you can feel how they feel eventually, and possibly understand why what youre saying to them isnt helping. Youre an ass.

  • @RandomChelseaxX I have been to far worse places than Somalia, so shipping me there doesn't scare me at all. Coddling them so they know you support them doesn't appear to be helping either, otherwise they wouldn't continue to do it. "Feeling how they feel" is the empathy that I was referring to in the other comment that I made, and I think it is a waste of time and effort to try to "help" these "poor, mistreated" people. They are doing this to themselves, so that means they aren't victims...

  • @iktomi22 -2nd half-It also can get worse. They could begin to go bulimic or do other extreme forms of body mutilation.Letting them know you dont give a fuck isnt going to help them.

  • @RandomChelseaxX Maybe letting them know will help, maybe not... Being sympathetic or even empathetic to their "plight" seems (from what I have seen) to enable them and exacerbate the problem anyway. Someone should let them know that these "disorders" shouldn't even be listed in the DSM. Plus, I completely agree with the title of this video, because that is all they are looking for, attention.

  • @iktomi22 starving yourself doesnt always nean your looking for attention

  • @xXxbabexXxXx Yeah OK, keep telling yourself that...

  • @iktomi22 Yet technically they are. Because something had to happen to them in order for them to start abusing their body.

  • @RandomChelseaxX Feeling sorry for oneself doesn't a victim make. And yes, something likely did happen, a lack of attention...

  • @iktomi22 Try reading "A Child Called IT", you might get what im trying to say.

  • @RandomChelseaxX Unfortunately, that young lad in the book was actually tortured and his mother starved him, but he never had anorexia...hmm, food for thought. In most cases of anorexia, there is no physical abuse. Anyway, if they are so feeble minded that they starve because they are sad :( or because someone said something mean to them, then I feel no pity for them. Sounds to me like a lot of them enjoy it anyway.

  • @iktomi22 I think its more than feeling sad or having heard negative comments. Its deeper than that i think. In most cases anyways. They dont enjoy it or who they are, thats kinda why they do it.

  • @RandomChelseaxX Ohh, that is sooo sad... Oh, wait, no it's not. They just need to grow the hell up and realize how privileged they really are.

  • @iktomi22 Well, some of them arent privledged, some are. CIrcumstances can vary a great deal.

  • @RandomChelseaxX Just by living in a first world country they are priveleged. Poor people in the US have crappy cars, right? Poor people in third world countries are lucky to have clothes let alone cars. All research that has been done on this subject indicate a bias toward higher social classes, although the disorder does occur in lower class US households. But, it is almost nonexistent in third world countries, where everyone is poor. Even the poor in the US are privileged.

  • You can easily faint by not eating for a few days...trust me i no lol. And when she measured her waist the second time she should have sucked her fat gut in..maybe it would look more "realistic" then lol.

  • well i would give anything to b as skinny as her! :(

  • i dont get why she would try to loose weight, she skinny as it is, if only she saw how other bigg people lived.

  • Starving for ATTENTION?? No one's going to be impacted by a movie based entirely on stereotypes..... not to mention, it's completely offensive.

  • i thought you did a pretty good job, yes it would help if there had been more research done prior but it wasn't bad. it's hard to make a short film and decide what material you should or shouldn't use. i also see how the tape measurer is not necessarily used as a cliche for anorexia but more for symbolism. honestly, if you googled pictures many will show a tape measurer. it can be a common misconception as well.

  • omg! did you actually speak to an anorexic or go online and speak to any of us??! obviously NOT!

starving for attention!!! if we wanted attention we do something ELSE! we DO NOT WANT attention, its about CONTROL!!! and seriously...the tape measure?! just look at the other videos on here and you'll see just how little you understand anorexia!

  • @girlex

thats spot on. people dont get it, non sufferers have their own ideas of what its like. they dont know anything. they see a few videos and asume they know everything whats going on inside of our heads. WELL YOU DONT!

  • Comment removed

  • Ok look!

I have anorexia and I DON'T want attention!

    I want to be ALONE!!

This tittle is offensive we (or most of) don't just starve ourselves to get attention OR to look thin we do it too have some sense of control!!

Plus I stay the HELL away from a tape messure!

    Bye Bye,

  • okay, this isn't even cliche... it's awful. i have anorexia, and no NO ONE who does workout w/ a tape measure. come on.

  • offensive title

  • really dont think it should be called starving forattention. that can be offensive

  • Comment removed

  • @uhvdonkeyballs often times its true.

  • i love how no one reads the info lol great short btw :)

  • She's shakeing her head all the time!

  • It's just so bad acting!!

  • the title is actually rather offending

  • @Emurlyjayne how?

  • @Emurlyjayne the cause for anorexia can be "attention seeking",and in that case the title is not offensive. in other cases - which i would think are the majority - the root cause is complex and often related to abouse and as such, the title is completely misleading.

Besides, having written explanations to a film is a clear sign of how bad it is. This is why it is a FILM - it should work by itself. If you need bubbles to explain, you got it all wrong, cause it should work WITHOUT.

  • @Emurlyjayne how is it offending?

  • @ilyAaliyah uhm because a LOT of girls dont do it for attention. they do it for perfection.

  • @Emurlyjayne some people do shit like that for attention. Everyone has a different reason as to why they do it, this video didn't say they all do it for this one. Being more open minded!!

  • @Emurlyjayne Offensive? How come I don't see people starving due to anorexia in 3rd world countries like mexico? Why do we see this phenomenon in the U.S? I mean, children starve in Mexico due to extreme conditions due to poverty of course, but not anorexia... I don't think we need a psychiatric diagnoses to figure it out...

  • @criticalage Actually research has found Anorexia Nervosa in so called 'developing' countries, even those who value a larger body size as beautiful, at the same rate per capita as western countries.

  • @Emurlyjayne I don't see why people find the title so offensive. What if 'starving' has a double meaning and in this case is 'yearning' for attention? So yeah, the girl is starving herself, but the actual starvation is not for attention, it is a result of the fact she is yearning for the attention and affection she deserves.

  • Wayyy sad! What happened at the end? Did she have a heart attack and die? Was this real or did you just have ppl act?

  • the title is horrible.

  • gah that title is horrible, speak for yourself!

  • People tend to think anorexia is triggered by the media or peer pressure, when honestly anorexia is much deeper than that. Anxiety, OCD, childhood trauma, etc.

Remember, starving is the SYMPTOM, the disease lies on a deeper level. Please don't assume that eating disorders are that superficial.

Eating disorders is the most deadliest psychological disorder out there. The main reason being, when someone with an eating disorder tells someone, they tend to ignore it until its too late.

  • Comment removed

  • One star. You threw away a good-looking sandwich.

  • I really do like the title to this. It's hard to mask the reality of the disease, but really it is starving for attention: to be seen for something, or just to better ourselves in our own mind.

  • i hate the title its defiantly not for attention i am starving because i ahve been bullied for 9 years and i just want to fit in...

  • By saying that you "just want to fit in" you imply that you want people to see you differently: or react different to how you are now. I hope you get what you want! <3

  • thank you, mee to, but i dont know how long i can last because i ahve been threatened to be put in hospital :(

    xo

  • mee too been bullied for 2 years thaats why i starve myself defo not for attention

  • Good video. Not to keen on the title though.

  • this is just a title people ok get over and it is true she is starving 4 attention because somtime they wanna be skinny sooo the boys can like them more or bemore noiced so this tile makes alot of sense

  • the title is a bit judgemental

  • yeah I thought that.

  • LOL. Same weight, throughout!

  • clever x well done x

  • why did yyu chose to call it starving for attention?? just wondering

  • Comment removed

  • nice film.., belive or not but its the reallity this happeneds often with the teenager gilrs/boys and its bad to know, ...

    =/

  • join the club :[

    i hate it so much.

then i starve myself for a day.

    then bindge the next :[

its like a cycle i cant break out of.

    i hate it :[

    this was really good though.

    (:

  • this is how i feel 24/7

  • so sad

but I can relate, in a way

I have friends but I don't feel they're true to me

and the friends I want are thin and not interested in me because I'm bigger

these friends I want love the same shows, movies, and music that I do

we may have more in common, but I'll never know

  • wow.

    this was good(:

  • amazing job and soooo true!! thankss

  • Please leave a message on my video about being perfect. I need some reactions!

    thanks!!

ps. good video!! I liked it :)

  • really good :DD 10*

  • starving for attention,fuck you

  • i agree with crosturphobic...we don't do it for attention. i hope nobody ever notices...i do it for me. i do it for my self-esteem.

  • Spot on.

  • i really really doubt she would have fainted from skipping a couple of meals and excercising a bit. and shes not an "anorexic" girl as it says in the credits.

anorexia is an actual disease and dieting and working out for a couple of days isn't it. she wasn't \starving for attention"

i find this disrepectful, ignorant, and offensive

  • its not a fucking diet dumbass they start from fasting to anorexia how i know because i am anorexic i mean stfu u dont know shit on this!

  • actually, if you watch the video it says at the end that she throws the measuring tape in the garbage and that is showing that she is no longer obsessed with it. so she was only at it for like a week, which is not anorexia.

and don't assume that i know nothing about it. i have an eating disorder too, so maybe before you shoot your mouth off, you can think about what you say.

  • didnt u read the description its time lapsed

  • loved it =]

  • Wow this was a really good video and probably a really good song to put for this video.

  • I love it. it's really good!

  • this is really good. well done.

  • Really good! and what was the piano song at the end in the credits? thanks :D

  • I remember that ad at the begining.

  • Very good Little Movie :) I love ti good job

  • 2:14 come on work itt lose that extra pound!!

  • lololollll

  • this looks familiar...

  • wow comme elle me ressemble....

  • moi aussie!

  • lol the girls talking are so fat themselves, i thought the girl who became anorexic was thinner than them! hypocrites! anyway good video 5/5

  • Yea, people stop eating.

But that doesnt always mean that they did it for attention.

There are hundreds, thousands of reasons for someone to stop eating. Abuse, stress, loss of a relative, sexual assault, depression, blah blah blah the list is truly endless. You cant assume its solely because someone wants attention.?!?

Don't judge someone unless you have experienced it yourself..

  • iv experienced it myself, still am.. and ur right, not everyone does it for attention. i think its just a general assumption though. but i think, for wateva reason u start starving urself, a ot of the time, all u want is 4 sum1 2 notice, & 4 sum1 to care. dats y i started it. also self hate is another huge one.

  • yeah i know, i could go from head to toe and tell you every single thing i hate about my body.

but the reason i did it was because i felt like people didnt care about me, so i just idk, i felt like if something happened to me then maybe someone would care.

  • i like how she carries around her measuring tape while she's working out lol who does that?

  • This video is SPOT ON. This is what I live with every day...and it is not fun, nor glamorous. After a while, the hunger gets to be nearly painful and it is SO hard to focus and even walk.

It may be easy to restrict and ignore hunger at first, but then it gets so hard because you WANT to eat but you can't eat. Aftet a while, you may be able to not eat, but then you are so weak that it doesn't matter anymore because all reason for living is gone. It is H.E.L.L. I know...I am there.

    ~LauraG.~

  • Eating disorders arent about attention. They dibilating disturbing mental ilnesses

  • I cant do that exercise she is doing people think that i am anorexic because i am so skinny but i really not i just naturally thin it runs in the family

  • and the point in that comment...? this is about an ED?

  • good video and message i go through this everyday... and wish I didn't but i can't see my life without this ED

  • dude!!those girls that are talking are so fat!! so they better shut up!

  • i know.. what hypocrites
