  • The only reason someone should not support healthcare reform is because they think or know it is not the reform they really need.

  • i know the horror of Canada's healthcare system, this is a future goverment take over of healthcare, with long waits in line, death panels, limited care and painful and life threatening waits, those democrats have no right to do this.

  • If we didn't have universial health care in Sweden i would probably dead today.

  • I've slowly been coming from a very capitalist/individualist point of view, to the "socialist" p.o.v., for awhile now. This video, and the conversations in the comments just sealed the deal. I've "switched sides".

  • @216trixie {re: the health care issue.}

  • @216trixie if you are interested my friend dprjones has a 5 part series Letter to America in which he addressed point by point the claims made by Fox News on the NHS.

  • Yes it does.

  • @216trixie yes what does?

  • @videoenthusiast23 pubic vs private schools refer only to the source of the funding. Private schools do not receive any public funds. They are funded by tuition. If you had your health care paid for by the taxpayer it would not be more expensive for you. Your tax dollars already go to pay for Emergency Room care for those who don't have insurance.

  • @videoenthusiast23 society benefits from a well educated workforce. That is why we as a society fund public institution like state universities and community colleges to train the workforces of tomorrow. Furthermore our socialist education system provides free k-12 education. Our socialist education system also maintains libraries where you can get your books for free.

  • @HappyCabbie In Australia our socialist libraries lets you have free books too, we also have that evil ' socialist universal heathcare" and when I suffered a back injury/illness the evil government paid all my medical bills which ran into I guess about $200,000 which included, the surgery, the 6 weeks of recovery plus hospital & physio costs and all other ongoing treatments.Guess what this was all paid for out of my taxes (that the evil government stole off me without me consenting to) Evil

  • @videoenthusiast23 I am not saying that you haven't paid for your education but I am saying that you haven't paid for all of it. Don't believe me, go talk to your school. Community Colleges get some money from property taxes, they also get money from the state and federal department of education. All tax payer funded. I am doing the same thing.

  • @videoenthusiast23 Ok fair enough, however your community college, just like mine is paid for in part by the taxpayer. They receive public funding to make your education cheaper. If you object to paying for my healthcare, then why are you accepting an education that is provided in part through property taxes?

  • @videoenthusiast23 ok well sadly there was an answer either way. Your tax dollars go to fund public transportaion for me. Likewise my tax dollars go to fund highways for your car.

Now, lets talk about school. Did you apply for a Pell Grant as I did to pay for school. Are you going to a public school or a private university?

  • @videoenthusiast23 let me ask you this then. Do you drive a car or do you take the bus?

  • @videoenthusiast23 what if your healthcare was paid for by tax payers? Would you oppose having health coverage then?

  • @videoenthusiast23 I hope you lead a long healthy life.

  • @videoenthusiast23 I hope you never get sick

  • Since I now live in a country with a national health system I feel I can add to the debate.

I would not return to private provision.

The question is really about who benefits financially. In a private system investors get the lion's share of the financial returns. Since you have the same costs it therefore follows that private provision is much less efficient, since resources are creamed off rather than being used to benefit patients.

  • @colourmegone well we spend twice as much as those with national health care systems and yet we don't cover everyone

  • It's a matter of personal choice for me (And others like me). They can pass whatever they want, but the FORCING people to buy insurance is where the issue is. All our senators failed to defend the personal choice aspect of it, but we (opposers) have shifted to a new strategy. When mandatory insurance comes into effect, we are just going to drain the system dry. Go to the doctor for everything under the sun, broken nails, etc. Some plan to get pain-pills to sell to cover the insurance costs.

  • @DireSpring Do you also turn every minor scratch on your car into your insurance company?

  • @HappyCabbie No, but car insurance is optional. You can move to a state where car insurance isn't mandatory, or simply choose not to drive. You can't choose not to be alive (which anyone alive will have to pay for, unless they are broke and get a free ride). That and car insurance will go up when you make claims like that, healthcare won't go up like that thanks to the provisions in the bill.

  • @DireSpring name one state in the US that does not have mandatory car insurance if you drive a car.

  • @HappyCabbie Texas for starters, but you have to prove you are financially responsible (That you have money put aside in-case something were to actually happen)

  • @DireSpring not true. I have lived in Texas. Car insurance is a requirement to register your vehicle and get licence plates. Car insurance is mandatory in all 50 states. Please cite your sources for your belief that not all states require car insurance.

  • @HappyCabbie No it actually is true, my Uncle lives in Texas and has a bank account with 50 grand set aside. If you can prove to the DMV you have the money to cover any accidents (You actually have to deposit the money by the way), you do not have to pay any insurance company anything. Call them up and ask them if you are doubtful. I don't have that kind of money personally, but then again I choose not to drive. I just use public transport and avoid the whole problem

  • @DireSpring no what you are describing is something called "self insured". However it is still insurance. Texas is not the only state that offers that by the way. However you just don't have the right to buy a car and drive down the road without insurance. If you injure someone else they need to know they can be covered. The same is with health insurance. Why should tax payers costly ER visits for someone who doesn't have insurance?

  • @HappyCabbie I'll give you the self-insured thing, I mis-spoke but that is what I was referring to. All of us who are against the forced health insurance policy would gladly sign waivers and waive the right to ER visits unless we paid in cash. If this was an opt-in kind of thing we wouldn't have any problem at all. Bottom line is, we won't be forced into doing anything. We will take this health insurance, but will make sure they pay out 100 fold. The system WILL operate in the red, guaranteed

  • @DireSpring sorry but I am not buying it. You would actually sign a waver giving up your right to an ER visit in exchange for option out of this healthcare system?

    I call bullshit on that

  • @HappyCabbie Yes, I would. I'm not the only one either. I would even sign a legal agreement saying I would totally do that if you could set it up, and if I didn't follow through you could have the right to absolutely everything I own (All of my assets, including land...which comes out somewhere around 90k).

  • @DireSpring sorry but you are either trying to bait me or you are naive. You can not count to rely on your own savings when it comes to medical expenses. You can't self insure yourself against things like lupus, aids, cancer, stroke, or other life term ailments.

I will not discuss this any further with you. You are either trying to bait me into making a video about you, or you are naive in which case it would be unethical for me to debate you any further.

  • @HappyCabbie No, there is no baiting. I'm not even bringing in self-insurance as far as health-care goes (I couldn't afford it anyway), and if I wanted a video made about me I would make it myself. It's about personal liberty and although you may not understand, there are many of us out there willing to make great personal sacrifices to defend our right to choose. I'd rather die from cancer and go untreated than give in to a system that tries to impose socialism on me against my will.

  • @DireSpring The general plan of attack (at the moment at least, still have a couple years before the mandatory stuff kicks in) is to spam the ER's and get multiple x-rays at multiple hospitals. Every individual who participates can easily drain the system of at least a couple grand for everyday they choose to bone the system. Take free-days off of work when we wish because there is no need to pay for the doctor visit to get an excuse. The system can't take that kind of pressure forever

  • @DireSpring I am confused as to what your motive is? Putting a drain on the system will not only cost the taxpayers more, but yourself as well. You will still have to pay for things like co-pays and deductibles so I am not sure if you have thought that far out

  • @HappyCabbie It isn't "my" plan, there's thousands of people ready to jump in, I just thought it was brilliant. The Tea Party is 100% on board (although I'm not a member of the Tea Party, I agree with this strategy).......And yea, the whole point is to drain the whole entire system. Waste all the taxpayer dollars we can until they stop shoving their shit down our throat. I don't know how anyone else will handle deductibles, but I'm artificially going to keep my income low enough not to matter

  • I hate this bill because i don't want to pay for other peoples healthcare by my tax money being taken to give to the poor. i admit i am greedy. not all poor people try to work or get jobs. its another spread the wealth legislation from obama and anti capitslist. you can't purchase cheap drugs now from Canada and Long waits in line now cause of obamacare. business's will go broke or less jobs will created if there forced to pay for healthcare from employees. i don't want to start a business now.

  • @JBBlitz however your tax dollars already go to cover the poor. With programs like Medicaid and such. Right now the biggest expense for healthcare on the tax payers is the Emergency room. If everyone had access to see a doctor when they needed one, the ER would not be filled to over capacity. Which is a greater burden to a tax payer? A 50 dollar office visit or a $3,000 hospital visit. You are paying for it either way.

  • @HappyCabbie i want medicare, medicaid and social security gone because its bankrupting the country and stealing our tax money. people don't go to emergency room unless they need it. i think people should have to pay for their own insurance without being denied access and prevent other insurance companies from buying others out and forming trusts than costs can go down. this bill also adds 1 trillion to the deficit.

  • @JBBlitz so what should happen to those who can't afford things like surgery, cancer treatments, or physical therapy after a car accident?

  • @HappyCabbie, make it optional if you want to donate or not, but what could work is if someone would pay it the full cost of what they paid for the person should be tax deductible, that way no money is really lose from the person who paid for that person to have it, this would encourage people to do so. charity should be optional not forced.

  • @JBBlitz would you volunteer to pay for someone's cancer treatment, something that could easily run up to and over $100,000 dollars?

  • @HappyCabbie, if i was a very rich person, who cared, yes, especially if you also get a tax deductible on it that can be a bit less or even a bit more than what you paid for treatment. consider it a charity and make it tax deductible and optional, but don't force us to pay.

  • @JBBlitz well then you have convinced me. I was wrong about this. We should not put healthcare on the backs of the taxpayers. It should be left to those who wish to voluntarily contribute.

  • @HappyCabbie exactly and the reason why nobody wants to contribute now is because the goverment is forcing you too. this bill will make you donate anywhere from 2-5 thousand dollars on your taxes to pay off this trilliion dollar bill.

  • @JBBlitz I have no intention of donating 2-5 thousand dollars to the federal government.

  • @HappyCabbie it will be taken in tax money from you to pay for obamacare, also illegal immigrants can even get this healthcare as well paid free and they also have access to medicare.

  • @JBBlitz oh we are talking about taxes. Earlier you said I was going to be donating 2-5000 dollars. Even when I finish school such a donation would be rather expensive and I would rather it go to another charity such as doctors with out borders. As far as my taxes go, I paid 600 in 2009, but that is just for one person filing as head household.

  • Comment removed

  • @JBBlitz Dude, you should try and look outside you borders... Norway got the highest standards of linving... free health care for everyone nomatter what, less than 3% unemployment, prisons focused on rehailitation rather isolation. onlything we miss is free dental care.. I pay about 30% in tax but i have no expenses other than food, clothing and rent. If i get ill and I have to use more than 200dollars on medicine i get a free card on those drugs. working together as a whole also reduces violence

  • @Dextomus, I was born in Canada and like what they have and they have whay ou mentioned but the problem is during a bad economy doctor's got bad treatment and we moved over here for my mom as a doctor to make money.

  • The people who don't want healthcare reform at all are for the most part

People who make millions because of how broke our health care system is

I'll sum my argument up with one word

    GREED

  • actually read some of the comments below. There are some who feel they should not have to pay for the medical needs of others through taxes. What they don't realize is that they already are through costly ER visits. If everyone had healthcare, the ER visits would go down and that would lower costs.

  • Like I said when I sumed up my argument . It applies to those people just as easily.

    GREED

By the way lol they already pay for my health care through taxes.

    Isn't medicare so grand ?

  • I have a brother who is a self-made millionare. He has a mother-in-law who is suffering from alzheimer's, but can't get the government to pay for hospace because she owns her own home. My brother, who pays $20k/yr for his 7yo daughter to attend private school wants your taxes to go up so he can put his in-law in a home on your dime, and then inherit her house.

I took in my late father-in-law when he had the same problem, and I didn't get a dime, even after he died.

  • So as I see it, the problem with government-provided healthcare, besides it being 100% unconstitutional, is that our government don't know how to run a single damn thing - not one. Latest example was the housing fiasco. They lowered the standard for housing lending, but the people who really abused the program were the middle class and the wealthy. The same will happen w/healthcare. Why? Because only they know how to ask the right questions to get the max benefit.

  • I liked your balloon Movies better!!!

When do you start again wih your balloon movies?

  • I will not be doing any more balloon videos

  • I think dpr looked quite atractive in ladies underwear. In fact, he was pretty good at dancing too

  • Remember, many christians think people get sick because god wants them sick, and they don't feel they should pay for other people to thwart god's will.

  • Health car reform is terrible because it's another addition to our big government.

We already own automotive companies, Amtrak, postal service, and a lot more

We need to minimize our government as much as possible and let it naturally flow. Also, this would lead to much lower taxes :D

  • I liked your comment until you used the term "naturally flow." Government is not "natural." Therefore, by letting it "naturally flow" the government would fall. It is quite obvious you are a libertarians (as am I), this being said; I'm pretty sick of fellow libertarians constantly touting "SMALL GOVERNMENT, LOW TAXES!!!" without even looking into each issue. Any intellectual person would never be in favor of a blanket solution for every single problem governments face.

  • the system was never meant to cover everybody. medical care is a privelege not a right. rights are life liberty and property. nothing more.

  • medical care = life in many cases

  • that does not make it a right. this is ignoring the rights of the doctor to charge as he/she sees fit as far as operating their own business.

  • You ignore the fact doctor's do not have the right to deny care even in our country. If a doctor lets someone die they are legally responsible for there death and can be convicted of homicide.

Ever heard of Criminally Negligent Homicide. If you have the ability to save someones life and refuse to. It doesn't matter for what reason you killed them.

  • oh yes they do have the right to refuse. go to any private hospital for elective surgery and see what happens. sometimes elective surgury can be liife saving. please talk about things your informed of ahead of time.

  • ianrocks96: Out of curiosity, what is your religion? Also, Glenn Beck and Fox news are by far the most biased news source in the United States. If Obama gave us all anti-gravity boots, they would say that anti-gravity causes tumors without any kind of evidence. You are correct on one thing, public health care would raise taxes. However, even with that being the case, we would be spending less. The United States pays more than any other country in the world for health care (or close to it).

  • They would say that it causes Cancer AND make you Gay, cause you know how much fox HATES those Gays.....

  • I forgot about the gays. Thank you for the correction.

  • Oh come on I don't even think ianrocks96 is for real.

  • It's possible, but I feel the need to correct someone who is that thoroughly wrong.

  • Is that 42 what I think it is?

  • The answer? Yes, yes it is. It is also the only way I could use this user name.

  • and this country is becoming a socialist country and im really scared to know whats gonna happen next cuz we r in this huge debt and whats this obama money crap its just for people who are to lazy to get off their ass and work me and my parents love to watch fox i dont like CNN, ABC because they are pro obama if u would like to learn more about this stuff watch Glenn Beck on fox news channel 28 5:00pm eastern time u can learn a lot trust me i have learned so much stuff from him so watch him

  • listen im only 13 and i know a lot about this stuff and i dont think this bill should pass cuz it will raise the cost of taxes also i think the only reason people want this is cuz they dont want to pay for their health care. and know this isnt even america anymore cuz the government is deciding everythin for us and they shouldnt do that the only thing they are suppose to do is pass laws and some other stuff and now they are deciding u can only give certain bonuses

  • Comment removed

  • You failed as soon as you said "i know a lot about this stuff"...

  • I'm going to admit that I don't know enough about the whole Healthcare reform - I'm only a teenager so sue me, I'm just starting to care but I really feel that America needs to change in any way it can.

We're heading down a horrible path as Americans and any change seems like it'll do us some good.

  • I caught glandular fever when I was in the states, I didn't know what it was, so ended up at the nearest hospital... it cost over $300 for them to tell me there was nothing they could do for me except give me some pain killers. Luckily I had travel insurance through which I recovered the money. I can only imagine what it must be like for those without insurance who need even simple things doing and without the money. The NHS is not perfect, but I can still say that it's amazing at what it does.

  • give me health care NOW!

  • If universal healthcare had been passed fifty years ago, it would work. However we have so many fat people in this country(myself included), we would break the system. Why have healthcare for idiots like myself that got fat? However, if universal heathcare would include an asian dominatrix, that would come to my house everyday with a gun and say,"OK fat boy we are going to walk for a couple of hours and then work out on some contraption then I would be in favor!!

  • in the uk doctors are paid bonuses if their patients are healthy.

  • I am pro capitalism

I think the Us needs to decide if we are a capitalist or social country and stick with that.

  • to negativecreap>> so it's ok to have :police/firefighters/ medicare/ unemployement compensation ect ect that are all government *socialist* programs but not health care? what kind of argument is that? you know the cell phone that you are using to send txt messages right now can funtion only because the government *socialist* program launched satellite in orbit with government money! if you would waited for private companies to do that first you still be dialing a rotary phone! ffs

  • i realy dont think people are Against healthcare reform, what I think is people are looking at what is being offered and telling the government "this is junk" and they opt to stay with the status quo, either that or they are afraid what is being offered would be a Bait and Switch, I think the government needs to offer something that will knock our socks off

  • read the comments, there are people who dont want any refoem

  • I don't oppose health care for anyone, all countries should implement a system of some kind. No it wont be perfect but paying the crazy premiums for coverage is hardly perfect either. Everyone should have the right to being healthy and to retrieve treatment if they are injured or sick. The wealthy shouldn't not be the only ones able to afford this. In Canada we have coverage. Yes wait times are hideous but it beats not getting treatment because you can't afford it or being turned away.

  • im from the uk n tbh i dont think id ever wanna live in a country that didnt have universal coverage, i think healthcare is probably one of the most fundamental human rights n it wudnt sit right me livin in a country n payin taxes in a place i knew there were ppl who didnt have access

  • Look at our healthcare system now. Something needs to be done either way. There are SO MANY problems with our health insurance companies now.

  • The image of dprjones in women's underwear is burned into my brain.

I hope healthcare will cover the trips to the shrink. lol

  • i actually havn't seen that video, i'll have to go check it out.

  • It's a very well made video imo.

    watch?v=e7WQiMobONQ

  • omg that's hilarious.

  • Healthcare today is ok. You get what you deserve. Health care is not that much money, if you properly save, and have a job.

  • I can't believe you said, "you get what you deserve" . I know of a lot of people, you know, violent offenders in jail, who get free health care . Do they deserve it ?

  • They get free health care for their statement due to their instabilities while in jail. The healthcare they receive is no where close to what it is for the average health care recipient.

  • The statement made was "you get what you deserve". My point was people who don't deserve it, get it, while people who do, don't. *A guy breaks into a house. The homeowner is there and both end up getting shot. The criminal goes to jail and has his wounds treated for free while the uninsured victim ends up in debt for 15 years* Where is the justice in that ? How is anybody getting what they deserve ?

  • Also, what about the 40+ million that don't have coverage ? Prisoners get better than them . Just because you have a job that allows you to save some money does not mean that everyone can . And tell me how ok it is if you need that $60,000 operation that your insurance company told you was unnecessary or wouldn't help your condition . (Not that would wish anything like that on you)

  • No bill will pass until they can ducktape a a flag and a bible to it.

  • Socialized healthcare would be great. I'd love to see insurance companies get socked in the mouth like they've been socking EVERYONE in the mouth for the past however long they've been making 6 digit profits off of us.

  • Dumb ass Americans

  • what, sad we have the fire power to jackup any country we feel like? scared?

  • im just dicking with you. anti-american asshats are fun to troll

  • If healthcare reform passes that means our freedom as we know it will be taking away. I don't want Obama telling me what I can and can't do.

  • you realize you are completely wrong right? quiet a few doctors would be for the public option

  • thisis3d there are also many doctors who would prefer to stay in our current for profit system

  • can you leave a new comment telling me what freedom you will be losing if the current legislation passes?

  • USA - List em. I hear this argument alot, but I'm still waiting for an answer. What feedom?

  • I don't know you tell me? There is only one type of freedom. But then again we I guess there is a liberal freedom.

  • even with the current legislation, which I disagree witth, you will still choose your own doctor. So again, with health care reform what freedoms are you worried about losing?

  • I'm worried about losing all of my rights with what Obama is trying to do. Then again this country is going to be ran by nothing but liberals in 2012. Leave it at that. lets see what happens.

  • I know that this isn't the point of this video, but the quality looks better that most other videos... maybe it's just me.

Anyway, you're looking like you feel better, HappyCabbie. How's everything going?

  • Why is it, in this day and age....do we need the government to take care of us in regards to healthcare? What have we done in the past? What should we do in the future? What will be next? My dad's cousin died after being denied treatment for her cancer in Canada...she was deemed too OLD at age 50...not worthy of salvage. She was told to go home and get her affairs in order. No treatment whatsoever. I hope this is not what is in store for us here.

  • I question how you describe this scenario. I know a person who is about 50 who has a cancer which wont be cured by anything. The doctors decided NOT to do the lung surgery they originally discussed with him. They never come out and say it but we all know they mean "you are already gone". They sent him home to be with his family a few more months. His story can be described just like your's. It would be mostly true but not "the truth".

  • For the other question: we don't need government per se but due to the very high cost of modern medicine very few people are financially beyond being ruined by a sever medical event so we band together to "cover each other". We currently use private companies which only cover some and make profits. Other countries use systems that can cover all and they actually spend less total per year on health care.

  • I'm sorry, but I'm canadian and I have to take notice to your comment . There is NO way your cousin was denied care because she was too old at age 50 . That simply does not happen . I feel for your loss, I have lost 7 people close to me due to cancer, ranging from ages 19 to 66 . They were all treated, regardless of what kind or stage their cancer was in . I get a little tired of uninformed statements such as this . Again, I mean no disrespect .

  • coolingtruddle, it is entirely possible. While I have many friends in Canada who do speak highly of its success, there are horror stories, just like we could easily find here in the US. It could have been an advanced stage of cancer that their board of health determined was untreatable. Or it could be as simple as someone falling through the cracks. It does happen

However I still maintain that Canada's system is better and more humane than our own.

  • There is no such thing as a perfect system, but I'll tell you right now man, you would not be where you are now if you were here. Anti biotics ? I mean, really? This is basic stuff that a doctor at a walk in clinic would give you a prescription for . Show the pharmacist your health card and they'd be covered. I hope you get well soon HC.

  • It DID happen. In Nova Scotia. She tried to get into a clinical trial that showed promise and was told she was too old. Having no other options, she was doomed.

  • I'm really sorry to hear that, but clinical trials are just that, trials . They have strict guidelines that have to be followed in order for the statistics to be accurate . They are untried methods that need to have narrow parameters . That is the same everywhere, not just Canada . I didn't mean to sound crass, unfortunately 90% of what I hear about our health care system is either misinformation or just plain lies . It's....frustrating

  • We do not have the best system in the world. Cancer patients are often left in the cold if they don't have private insurance. Most of the medication is not covered. And that is all your governments wants to do. Give everybody basic health care so that people like HappyCabbie can get his anti-biotics without all this heartache. We still have private insurance here. It is still a competetive market. So all the righties can stop calling us socialists. Otherwise we'll take our electricity back.

  • MissPickletoes I believe you, it is mistakes like that one I hope we Americans learn from and try to come up with a system that is even better

  • The health care situation frustrates me tremendously. My boyfriend can't get health insurance because he lost a kidney in high school. Now he's in his 50s and needs back surgery but can't afford it. Sometimes he can't work for weeks but HE WANTS TO WORK. Society squanders all these ill people who want to work!

  • excellent video man, it's nice to see your taking an interest in your own country, not enough people read bills, rights, etc.

hopefully i don't get any flame for this but.. i think america is to far gone for any kind of fixing. honestly it's got to bad of a rap sheet. health care would be awesome, but fixing that whole materialistic feeling would be nice too.

  • Good points above. One of the ads for this vid was for the OnePatient channel. Scare tactics like these with big status quo money behind them do us all a terrible disservice by misinforming. In my own family I have a conservative, anti~Obama, forehead vein popping Repugnican who will argue against health care reform even when he knows I'm fighting for decent coverage myself. It's a pig~headed, childish, not wanting to lose/be wrong mentality as much as anything else we're up against.

  • With the enormous greed of the insurance companies there is no way we could ever have health care reform in the US is all about the money, Only an idiot would be anti healthcare reform.however where big business controls and industry there will never be change, well not without revolution.

  • I think we should all learn to be doctors when we are in high school. Then, you wouldn't need health care. you could take care of yourself and if you can't for some reason, your friends and family would be able to because they are also doctors.

    Just an impossible thought. lol

  • we all SHOULD do more of our own care and it would be nice if the med profession released its monopoly on the products needed but even a doctor will need to pay for those hospital rooms and MRIs and all the other stuff.

  • The "haves" are concerned about healthcare reform because we (the haves) *MIGHT* have fewer choices resulting in lower quality care with less customer service. In other words, there's only so many places on the lifeboat and if you are fortunate enough to have a spot right now -- earned or unearned -- you want to keep it.

Yes, I realize this is an egoist argument and therefore inferior to the utilitarian position you seem to espouse. But maybe I can work up a primie facie argument later...

  • Sorry for the typos!

  • Prima facie might be: Yes, we (the haves) are under obligation to stop suffering if a mechanism is at hand -- such as supporting health care reform. But looking around at the world, with all of the other problems, maybe health care is where we should start.

  • Maybe education is more important -- and all American property owners pay school taxes whether or not they have kids. So potentially this obligation to the less fortunate has already been met, and now it is up to the less fortunate to learn and improve their own lives without further assistance.

  • Oops, so many typos -- I meant to say: "maybe health care is NOT where we should start..."

  • So summary: Yes, we have an obligation to the less fortunate, but they have a greater obligation to themselves.

  • Most of the people who are against it are brainwashed by the media. It is pretty simple there are allot of people who if you give them a phrase.. will accept it without thinking.

It is a dark time when in society a large part of people are not thinking for them self. I mean Bush 2x? You gotta be kidding!

  • Happy ....let me tell you the TRUTH about health care ...take your time to read this following sentence : THE AMERICAN PEOPLE HAVE LOST ALL HUMANITY!!!

This in #1 answer from my coworkers (people who i worked together for 18 years and i think of as "good people") when i ask why not universal health care : " Why the fuck should i pay for everybody else who don't work or contribute to the plan but still use it for free and get the SAME care i get who is paying for?"

    Does that make it clear?

  • To echo verodefacto's point, I was watching Fox News the morning they announced that they were putting health care at the top of the agenda. Megyn Kelly was bitching out of her gourd that "those of us who do work are going to have to pay for everyone who doesn't." This pretty much implies that everyone who doesn't work is lazy and unwilling even though there are thousands and thousands of unemployed people who will tell you different.
