Correct, at that distance severe damage or complete loss of hearing would result if the siren was powered by 400+ 3-phase power. Surely this is obvious?
There is no such thing as 2 phase just single and three phase power. It has to do with how an Alternating Current overlaps, there is a pretty good description on Wikipedia.
Look out, doing that too long with a model starter might overheat the motor, that things windings and rotors are A LOT bigger than the starters windings or any propeller that motor will ever start, looks great, I'm gonna get one to piss off my neighbors >:-D
Because, helloooooo, a genius is someone who's very scientifically and/or logically smart beyond normal, but specifically born that way. A person doesn't have to be this to be an enthusiast. An enthusiast is just someone who's really interested in something and likes to explore the subject. Also, someone doesn't have to be an enthusiast in something to be a genius.
I am not really sure, Robert. If you added the area of these holes together, I do not think you would be left with much less of an area than an other Carter, with typical end-plates.
I think the only difference with this one is that the inner stators (facing the motor) have 6 holes, too! This along with the rotors each having 5 holes in an identical configuration with the holes on the end plates. Apart from the central one, obviously.
to make the sound. the rotator inside blows air through it an 'cut' the air at the same time. so if the frequency is high enough you will hear a sound. the faster it runs the higher the sound. sorry for my english maybe you have to ask an english or american mate :)
Don't you fret. This is coming... I don't exactly have 3-phase coming out of my sockets, mate! Lifting this thing and transporting it is a logistical nightmare, needs at least three men to deliver it safely. Possibly more.
what a nice piece of kit and well done on the restoration, now come on rigger stop pis++ng about, you have prooved you can power up the motor correctly, let us hear it on full run as it was intended please :-)
Yes, Crownhill, you are right there! This syren alerted of Luftwaffe attacks... very much as yours did. This alone, is a valid reason to ensure it remains functional... like I need a reason ;-)
Thanks for your tips along the way, your videos inspired me to carry out this restoration.

There is 2-phase but it isn't used because 3-phase and single phase works far better.

Would it be louder without those stator end plates?
Wonderful musical chord.
Try to keep it at a steady RPM so we can hear the notes.

Whats a 3-phase elecrticty anyway?
xXxmidgexXx 4 years ago
3 phase is where there is a 120° differential between supply lines.
gewehrmeister3777 4 years ago
wat the bleep does that mean?????
nonamehero2 4 years ago
There are 3 live wires in a 3 phase supply line.
The sine wave in each AC line is 120° out of phase with the other lines.
gewehrmeister3777 4 years ago
are you like a siren genius
nonamehero2 4 years ago
No. A siren enthusiast.

ok
so....
is thier like a difference.
i mean im not called a computer enthusiast.

The motor is powered by 3-phase electricity. It is good (for my neighbours) that do not have 3-phase power at home.
riggerparish 4 years ago
why is it so hard to just power the siren? multiple phade

whoops. meant "multiple phase?"

Why those restrictive holes on the end plates?
To balance out volume of outside rotors with those inside? Thank you.
