@idontknowproductions. oh i just bought a 04 the other day they are pretty fast bikes.. i like it so far.. i just dont like the stock ktm scilencer on them
where is this? I live up in Kalispell, hard to find open country to ride. much is gated and closed due to over-zealous concern for 'bear habitat'. millions of acres of Glacier, Great Bear Wilderness and the Bob Marshall just isn't enough(?). Up here some want to close it all. Their horses do much more damage than the bikes. anyways, this riding looks pretty good. looks like my son could handle much of this on his TTR. I got a 08 WR450, it feels a little big. gonna check out the ktm 300
In '07 (I believe) the EXC's were expanded into EXC, XC, and XC-W. The 450 and 530 EXC's have lights, are street legal, and a little more mellow than the old EXCs. The XC-W is like the old EXC, a little faster and stiffer than the new EXC. The XC is a little more hardcore version of the XC-W with a close-ratio tranny and stiffer suspension. Sort of a halfway between enduro and mx bike.
in 2005 ktm recreated the bikes with new subframe/frame/plastics/suspension, and in 2006 they called all enduro ktm's in the u.s xc's or xc-w's, with exceptions to some of ktm's 'dual-sport' bikes still called exc's. in australia and europe for my understanding still call them exc's.
@idontknowproductions actually this is one of the better songs put to a bike video it's usually something gay as aids like fall out boy like the last one i just saw... needless to say it was a quick viewing where at in montana is this and tool is amazing.
all enduro/trail bike ktm's were called EXC's untill 2006 when they started calling them XCW's (with an exception to the street legal bikes). But EXC and XCW are the same. SX however is a motocross bike, not so good for the woods. Any EXC or XCW would be great for woodland riding
yeah, or you could get a camcorder, HD or whatever you are willing to bring in a backpack, and just get a lens that fits on to your helmet to get the more frames per second and higher quality.
yeah we do, that just happened to be a really early video of me the first time riding that bike. we have been riding in phoenix arizona, and its fun but nothing like montana
They are very similar. The 300 has more torque and bottom end, the 250 has a little less bottom, but seems to rev quicker. The 250xc-w can be tuned mild or wild with parts from an SX. Actually, the ktm 200 is my prefered tight woods bike. Light and great handling.
A response from another page...but the CRF150RB is a nice bike. Good bottom end pull and goes well on the top. Bonus is that it has suspension + brakes.
For a short kid - 40Kg - it is the only choice out there at the moment. (KX100 the only other +/- choice but with no bottom end)
We ride in the High Country in Victoria Australia. Toolangi State Forest
haha. it bet it goes pretty good. i havent riden a kx 100 or anything but they sound pretty pipey. ooohhh your in austrailia i see, but yeah bultaco338 is right, i would like to see the country there.
yeah, I'm the 250xc-w rider, dad to idontknowproductions. Nice terrain for riding there in Toolangi. We don't get much open area like that here in western Montana.
This vid looked pretty open as well. Would have thought the 300 would be ok here? I noticed a 4 banger wrXXX in the vid. How does that go. Lot of questions...I am about to go shopping. My list: 300exc <- Primary choice WR450f <- Bit heavy CRF450X <- Bit tall & heavy I enjoy the rocks ledges and gullys Yep 450 sounds a bit extream, but +/- same KG/$ as WR250 with no valve burn issue. I'm sort of intrested in the 4 new bangers. They are apparently very easy to ride.
My brother is riding the wr400. IMHO it is too heavy and ungainly for the trails we ride. The same could be said for the WR450 and CRF450x. The ktm300xc-w is hard to beat for a do-it all bike. The power delivery can be very much like a modern 4t. I like the 2ts for the maintenance ease and relatively lighter weight.
I have a 250 and it is a little thriftier than my friends 300. We can count on about 70+ miles of single track on a tank with a properly jetted motor. I don't hesitate to coast downhill wherever possible. It is possible to coast for miles here at times.
I really like my 250 for what we ride, but I think the preferred bike is the one you get the best deal on. The 300 is almost too much for the trails we ride here. If I lived near the desert I would probably go for the 300.

The AMA and FIM said 2 strokes WOULD race CC for CC in 2010 with the PRO's
Japan this week 10/09 said that if anybody arrives? at a pro event with a 2 stroke they will pull all their bikes from the event!
Anybody=Privateer or any other brand
AMA gave Japan what they wanted
Japan wont allow any factory rider to ride a 2T anywhere other than FMX or at home
Nervous or something
POST THIS EVERY WHERE - MAKE NOISE AND BE HEARD

From what i've heard and seen, the XC's and XCW's aren't quite as smooth as the EXC's but are still a lot smoother than the SX's.

What is the prefered bike:
The 250XC-W or the 300EXC

idontknowproductions 3 years ago
The KX100 is not bad - but would fail dismally on the stuff you are riding there.
It has more torque than a 85, but also likes the RPM. Another handicap is that its thirsty so on longer rides u need to carry fuel.
CRF150R is also thirsty - Carrying extra fuel as well. CRF150R would go OK on that terrain your on now.
JustEnduro 3 years ago
I dont - but Oz has good spots to ride.
North - mostly high speed desert stuff (Not my flavor)
South - Highlands Snow and the same sort of terrain as the vid on this page. (My flavor)
U related to this vid?
JustEnduro 3 years ago
yeah, I'm the 250xc-w rider, dad to idontknowproductions. Nice terrain for riding there in Toolangi. We don't get much open area like that here in western Montana.

bultaco338 3 years ago
Those were/are my thoughts as well.
The wr400 is not in the same league as the 450's in regards to Kg or power delivery.
The WR450F is a totally revamped bike.
WR450F -e = 112kg carried low
KTM300exc-e = 104kg carried high
The repair bills on the 450 could hurt + service time duration is also a bit extreme.
By all accounts the new 450 are very good in the logs and gully's.
The 300 is my first choice.
How many Miles do you get per tank on the 300?
JustEnduro 3 years ago

JustEnduro 3 years ago
I own a MKII Matador, about 1969 vintage.
bultaco338 3 years ago
Thats would have been when I started riding a 50cc - In short before my time.
Whats the prefered bike 300exc or the 250XC?
Your son does well. The 200exc is THE bike. good allrounder. I would like to get my little guy on one of those as well, but he lacks altitude.
JustEnduro 3 years ago
I really like my 250 for what we ride, but I think the preferred bike is the one you get the best deal on. The 300 is almost too much for the trails we ride here. If I lived near the desert I would probably go for the 300.
